he South Shore of Lake Tahoe straddles the California and Nevada stateline, including the incorporated city of South Lake Tahoe. An hour west of Reno and two hours east of Sacramento, Lake Tahoe is easily accessible via two international airports, auto or bus. The community is comprised of families, weekend warriors, world class athletes and those who simply enjoy the natural splendor of the area.

Lake Tahoe was chosen among Yahoo Travel’s top lakeside vacations in the world for its majestic beauty and author Mark Twain heralded the region “the fairest picture the earth affords.”
Ask a local why they live in Tahoe and you’re likely to hear, “I moved here for the winter and stayed for the summer.” One thing is undeniable: you’ll always remember your first visit to Lake Tahoe.

e believe in lifelong learning and our educational facilities reinforce our commitment to the environment, the economy and the community. Lake Tahoe Community College, which started in a motel 40 years ago, has evolved into a technical and career training school. The courses are as varied as the diverse student body including renowned firefighter and culinary academies. Community education courses draw on the environment and range from avalanche safety and wilderness first-responder to photography and fitness. There are two high schools on the South Shore, Whittell High in Nevada and South Tahoe High in California. South Tahoe High School recently underwent a huge transformation and is now home to the Tahoe Arts and Design Academy, sports medicine, dental assisting and auto shop programs. For primary education, Bijou offers a spanish language immersion program and the Meyers Magnet School teaches children all about science.

Sugar Pine Foundation Brad Smith
• Park your car and use BlueGo or a bicycle to explore Lake Tahoe. • Do your doo-ty and pick up after your pets. • Clean, drain and dry any watercraft or fishing gear you use to protect the Lake from aquatic invasive species. • Volunteer on a project that helps protect Lake Tahoe. • Please do not feed the wildlife if you are lucky enough to encounter them! • Don’t tempt wildlife by leaving food in automobiles or garbage cans curbside.
