he Village of Tinley Park is one of the fastestgrowing cities in the Midwest, and it’s easy to understand why so many people want to call Tinley Park home.

T

The Village is ideally located in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, where residents can find that perfect balance of small-town charm and big-city amenities. With a population of approximately 57,000, the Village is not exactly a small town, but it maintains the sense of community found in towns with much smaller populations. Recently, Tinley Park was named “The Best Place to Raise Your Kids in Illinois” by BusinessWeek magazine, and that title really says it all. According to the magazine, “Safety, along with school test scores, air quality, and affordability, were weighted especially highly in this year’s calculations. But we also considered job growth, diversity, and amenities such as museums, parks, and theaters.” Real estate research blog Movoto recently released a study naming Tinley Park the ninth-best “small” city in America in which to move. The study utilized demographic and other data the site collected from about 100 U.S. cities with populations of less than 60,000. Six criteria in total were surveyed, including cost of living, crime, median household income, unemployment rate, median home price and homes for sale per capita. Tinley Park is a great place to call home or just to come for a visit. With leading entertainment venues, a thriving business community, top-rated schools and an ideal location, it’s tough to beat life in Tinley Park.

inley Park is located in the middle of the I-80 corridor, about 25 miles southwest of Chicago. The area’s excellent highway system and public transportation options provide easy access to the cultural, recreational and business opportunities of both Tinley Park and the Greater Chicago Area. Tinley Park recently embarked on a project to make all streets in the city “complete” – that is, designed with equal consideration for motorists, bicyclists, pedestrians and transit riders. The initiative has so far successfully added stand-alone bicycle lanes or shared lanes (called “sharrows”) to 167th Street between Harlem and 84th avenues and has been selected as a case study by the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning. Bicycling and Complete Streets www.tinleypark.org Commuters will find that driving in and around the area is simple and convenient. Situated in the heart of the I-80 corridor, Tinley Park is directly linked to I-55, I-90, I-94 and I-355 through I-80. These interstates will take drivers to downtown Chicago or to any surrounding suburb. Illinois Department of Transportation (217) 782-7820 www.dot.state.il.us www.illinoistollway.com

Local routes make stops at various schools, hospitals, Metra stations and shopping centers in the area and surrounding suburbs. For select special events, there is a bus that runs directly from Tinley Park to U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago. As of September 2013, Pace and the CTA have partnered to bring customers the new Ventra system, which allows customers to pay for both train and bus fares with a single card. Visit VentraChicago.com for more information about this new system. Residents of Tinley Park who are disabled or age 56 and older may utilize the city’s Senior and Handicapped Bus Service, a reduced-fare bus service that will drop customers off directly where they need to go. The buses run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Reservations generally need to be placed 24 hours in advance, with the exception of service for medical appointments, which should be reserved 48 hours in advance.
