Recognition for a lifetime of achievement Couchiching Conservancy’s largest nature reserve to be dedicated to Washago resident Ron Reid. By Mark Bisset You can tell a lot about a person by the lines on their face. Over time, habits of thought tend to form a permanent record on your skin, around your eyes and mouth, and on your brow. Ron Reid has a lot of smile crinkles. A person’s actions form a kind of permanent record too, for better or for worse. Ron Reid’s record lies on the positive side of the local landscape, particularly where there are large swaths of green. The Washago resident is being recognized in September for a lifetime of achievement in Ontario conservation when The Couchiching Conservancy officially dedicates a 730-acre nature reserve on the Black River, east of Washago. During our campaign to protect this beautiful tract with more than four kilometres of the river flowing through it, we referred to the land as the Black River Wildlands. But fairly early on, a few of us began to plan for a name change. When we unveil the sign at the property on September 16th, it will become The Ron Reid Nature Reserve. The rest of the campaign team kept the honour secret, and when Ron was finally told following the completion of the acquisition, he responded in typical fashion. He was first shocked, then a little overwhelmed. Finally, as the weight of the honour settled in, he sought to acknowledge all his partners who had worked together over so many years to make so many things happen. He suggested the name of the reserve be changed to Ron Reid and Friends Nature Reserve. His friends of course declined. It was classic Ron Reid. One of those friends who deserves special mention is also a Washago resident: Ron’s wife, Janet Grand. Janet has a remarkable record of accomplishments in her own right as a Couchiching

She and Ron were a coalescing force behind the creation of the Conservancy, and she is a highly respected voice in the conservation community. Paying tribute to Ron without paying tribute to Janet would give you only a partial picture. It’s not my intention to put Ron up on a pedestal. He would be very uncomfortable there; the first to acknowledge his own flaws and quirks -- and to laugh at them. But the honour bestowed on him is an opportunity to recognize the fact that he has made our Continued on page 6

The position of school board trustee is not as widely publicized as those for mayor and councilors but it is not less important. Among other things, trustees assist the school board in fulfilling duties under the Education Act. They are representatives of the public - the community’s advocate for public education helping to shape a culture of improvement. More can be learned by visiting www.elections.ontarioschooltrustees.org. Jodi Lloyd is one of the candidates. As a three-term trustee, she believes building a strong education system is equivalent to building a strong society. She is married, with three children and, therefore, has a strong connection to our community, including youth and their parents. Her work as an insurance adjuster takes her to Severn, Ramara and Orillia. She says that having children and working in multiple municipalities has helped her to understand the unique needs and challenges in each municipality and she is 100% committed to her role. It’s always my pleasure to write a good news story, especially when it concerns a Severn Township resident. In this case it’s a about 9-year old Washago resident, Katie Heckendorn and her amazing 4K swim across Lake Couchiching, from Fern Resort to Couchiching Beach Park. The swim was the 27th annual Sun City Swim which took place on August 11, 2018. Washago resident, 9-year old Katie Swimmers raised money for The Child Heckendorn achieved a remarkable feat in Advocacy Centre Simcoe/Muskoka the August 11th Sun City Swim. (CACSM) located in Orillia. The CACSM is an organization that supports youth, children (and their families) who have experienced physical or sexual abuse. The swim/competition always attracts people of all ages, from children to older seniors. While raising much needed funds for the CACSM, it is a wonderful way to demonstrate community spirit and goodwill, something Katie was definitely ready for. A strong and experienced swimmer, in addition to her work with the Channel Cats and in preparation for the gruelling 4K Sun City Swim, Katie trained for many, many hours, swimming in Lake Couchiching, Sparrow Lake and the Severn River. Her final time for the Sun City Swim was a remarkable 1:30:40. Even more remarkable, Katie has gone down in history as the youngest person to ever swim in this competition. Congratulations, Katie! Your family is very proud of you – and so are all Severn Township residents.
Local government helps you every day The 2018 municipal election is on October 23rd. This is important. It’s the day you will have the opportunity to vote for the councillor who will represent you for the next 4 years at the municipal offices of Severn Township. Of the three levels of government, the municipal or local level has the most influence over our daily lives. Responsible for providing local services, facilities, safety and infrastructure – such things as water, sewer, parks, community centres, bridges, ditches and roads, planning, and by-laws - not a day goes by when we’re not affected by what local government provides. Municipal councillors get involved in local initiatives. They often support, or even lead, neighbourhood events and projects. And, if you enlist their support, the councillor will become a voice for your concerns and ideas, or even a huge help to your organization’s communications team, especially if you need township assistance. It’s for these reasons I am always surprised voter turnout for municipal elections is so low. After all, there is so much lead time and voting only takes a few minutes out of your day. If you are interested in what happens in the township at large, in your specific hamlet or village, or even the very road where you live, now is the time to think about marking your calendar for October 23rd. Your vote really will count.
Rumour about Century 21, Washago
The Villager P.O. Box 5 Washago, ON L0K 2B0
The Villager has learned that a rumour about the imminent closing of Century 21 B.J. Roth in Washago is not true, or at least exaggerated. Lynda Hepinstall, who works in the Washago C21 office, told us that the office will be open until at least June 2019.

Crystal says her business suits her. “I like to socialize and chat with my clients and to help them feel relaxed, to feel they’re being well looked after. Caring for your hands and feet is great for overall health – but it’s also a treat and I’m the one delivering that.” Lakeside Elegance offers professional and thorough manicures and pedicures for both men and women. You’ll receive a hand or foot massage with heated towels and special oils and creams. But be cautioned, Crystal says. She does not rush the process. “Clients should set aside enough time to be pampered!” Crystal Hill shown in her nail salon Reach Crystal at 705-718-0192. Be pampered at Lakeside Elegance
Our township is dotted with small businesses from one end to the other. They are the backbone of our community. The owners of these businesses are unafraid to take risks and have something in common – a skill, profession or service that is valuable and enriches our community. Crystal Hill, one of those entrepreneurs, is a trained and experienced nail technician who always wanted to run her own business. She said this was her goal from when she was very young, growing up in the tiny hamlet of Newboro, near Smith Falls, population 310. As a young adult she worked at a nearby full service salon and eventually moved to Orillia where, for the past 10 years has worked for a collision company, staying focused on her ultimate goal. “Since moving to Severn Township I’ve been very, very lucky. Industrial Collision allowed me to work from home. This meant I could work, go back to school, and look after my son, Kaelum. I was able to open my new business in December 2017 while still employed,” said Crystal. A few years before opening Lakeside Elegance, Crystal married a fellow entrepreneur, Dan Sims, the owner of KDC Construction. Crystal says scheduling work and home time can present a challenge because Dan is building a large house in Huntsville and Crystal’s business is growing. However, their challenges are managed while the needs of their son takes priority for both of them. Crystal designed her new business as a quiet refuge for her clients. A spacious salon in the lower level of her home in the Westshore area of Severn Township, it’s obvious from the layout that Crystal’s attention to her clients is paramount: soothing

6 Recognition for a lifetime of achievement Continued from page 1 region a better place in which to live. With his friends, he helped found the Conservancy, lead it as both president and then executive director, and in the process protect thousands of acres of wild space permanently -- a gift to the future. I have been deeply fortunate to have Ron as a friend and colleague for many years now. Long before I worked for the Conservancy, I was influenced by him. As a young editorial writer for The Packet & Times, I took note of the way he navigated through community controversies involving the environment. He is a third-way thinker, a person who seeks to find solutions that work, not just for one side or another, but for all sides involved. He has a unique talent for moving things forward and bringing everyone along with him. His influence tempered my sometimes hot opinions. He heightened my focus on nuance. People who consistently offer reasonable approaches to complex issues tend to have a positive effect on others around them. We could use many more like him these days. I know I am just one of many who are better for having known Ron. I welcome you to join us on September 16 at 1 p.m. at the Ron Reid Nature Reserve to celebrate a remarkable man. The official ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. and guided hikes of the reserve will follow. Please contact the Conservancy office if you plan to attend so we can provide directions to the site. And if you see Ron and Janet on the street, give them a big thumbs-up. Mark Bisset is the executive director of The Couchiching Conservancy, a non-profit, charitable land trust which protects thousands of acres of wilderness in the Lake Couchiching region. 705-326-1620 or www.couchichingconserv.ca.

Washago Lions and Pet Value Walk for Dog Guides The Washago Lions Club has partnered with the Oro club to participate in the Pet Value Walk for Dog Guides on September 30th. The Dog Guides project is important to these clubs and to Lions International which manages the Lions Foundation of Canada. The mission is to assist medically or physically disabled Canadians by providing them with dog guides at no cost. Since dog guides cost approximately $25,000 - the cost to raise and train each of them the Lions initiative is invaluable to many in our province and across the country. The Lions Foundation does not receive any government funding of the dog guides which means your participation in this walk is of great importance to those in need. You can help by registering for the walk. It will take place on Sunday, September 30th. Registration is at 10 a.m. at the Couchiching Beach Park in Orillia, Pavilion 1. The walk begins at 11 a.m. The event hosts will award prizes based on donation amounts. Pledge/donations forms are available at Washago Home Hardware and Hooper’s Café, both located on Muskoka Street in Washago. For more information please call Sandra at 705-689-9646. In other news from the Washago Lions, there are upcoming events to keep in mind: The Washago Lions Club will host an Oktoberfest event on September 22nd. “Country Music Circle Jam” starts Sept. 12th and will run every 2nd Wednesday of the month at the Lions Hall. Set up time is 6:30 p.m. Dougie’s Jam moves from Centennial Park, returning to the Washago Lions Hall, every 3rd Wednesday starting September 19. • 7 0 5-71 7-03 2 2 •

Alarms for seniors program By Dianne Kyle, Fire Prevention Officer, Severn Township The majority of fatal home fires occur at night. One reason is the smell of smoke will not always wake you up. In fact, fire produces toxic gases which can put you into a deeper sleep. National safety statistics show that adults age 65 and older are two times more likely to die in a home fire than any other segment of the population. One way seniors can improve the chances of escaping a home fire is by making sure their home is equipped with working smoke alarms. Severn Fire & Emergency Services, Fire Prevention Division has recognized seniors who, due to physical or mental, or even financial reasons may be unable to maintain smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in their home. Our desire is to assist by providing free dual smoke/CO alarms. Through a generous donation of 120 dual smoke and carbon monoxide alarms from Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc., our job has been made easier.
The alarms are available while supplies last for owner-occupied single family homes in Severn Township that meet the above criteria. To participate in the program, simply call to book an appointment with the Fire Prevention Officer between the hours of 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (Monday- Friday). Call 705-325-2315 ext. 248 or email dkyle@townshipofsevern.com to make an appointment. Homeowners will be required to sign a liability release authorizing access to their property for the installation of the alarms. Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc., The Hawkins Gignac Foundation and the Ontario Fire Marshalls Public Fire Safety Council generously support the program. If you live in a rental unit (house or apartment), it is the owner’s responsibility to install and maintain working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. The Ontario Fire Code requires that smoke alarms be installed on every level of your home and Carbon Monoxide outside each sleeping area.
Junior Fire Fit Challenge The challenge will consist of an obstacle course involving real firefighter duties as well as fire safety education. Registration forms can be found at the municipal office at 1024 Hurlwood Lane as well as on our website at www.townshipofsevern.com with instructions on how to register. All participants must be between the age of 5-12 and accompanied by a parent or guardian during the competition and must have filled out the registration before the deadline of September 19, 2018. For more information, contact Dianne Kyle at dkyle@townshipofsevern. com or call 705-325-2315 extension 248.

Calling on youth to identify accessible projects By Simcoe North MP Bruce Stanton Some of you may be familiar with the Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF), which provides grants to organizations to make community spaces more accessible, so all members of our community can use and enjoy them. Many local organizations have benefitted from the EAF since it was introduced in 2007, including the St. Paul’s Centre and St. James Church in Orillia, the Port McNicoll Community Centre, the Coldwater Heritage
Mill, the Ramara Public Library, and the Penetanguishene Centennial Museum. Over 3,500 projects across the country have benefitted from the EAF. The EAF previously had two components: • The small projects component, which provides grant funding, up to $100,000 per project, to support small scale construction, renovation or retrofit projects that increase accessibility in communities or workplaces; and • The mid-sized projects component, which provides contributions of up to $3 million to support larger retrofit, renovation or construction projects of facilities or venues that house or will house programs and services geared towards addressing the social and/or labour market integration needs of people with disabilities in a holistic manner.
Following a pilot project in 2017, the EAF has launched a third component, around youth innovation. The youth innovation component empowers youth between the ages of 15 and 30 to identify accessibility barriers within their communities and work with local organizations to develop solutions to increase accessibility and safety in community spaces and workplaces. Funding of up to $10,000 is available to support capital costs of eligible projects, which may include initiatives like installing automatic door openers, constructing raised garden beds in a community garden, or acquiring specialized wheelchairs to access sandy beaches. The youth innovation component is open for applications until 11:59pm on September 21, 2018. More information is available on the Employment and Social Development Canada EAF website - https:// www.canada.ca/en/employment-socialdevelopment/programs/enablingaccessibility-fund.html

If you have ever had the chance to visit the Atlantic coast in the U.S., you may have noticed that much of the terrain there from Cape Cod southwards is mostly flat and poorly-drained, a landform dubbed the Atlantic coastal plain. As you might expect, this landform has many distinctive plants, which are prevented from spreading westwards by the high ridges of the Appalachians. But botanists have discovered that some of those plants show up along the shores of inland lakes east of Georgian Bay, hundreds of kilometers away from their normal range. One of the best sites for these “relict” plants is Matchedash Lake, set within the rocky barrens of northern Severn Township; another good site is on Morrison Lake just to the north of the Severn River. While most of these coastal plain plants are rare in Ontario, and some of them are inconspicuous, a few are downright showy. In August and early September, a good marker for this group of species is a flower appropriately called Virginia Meadow Beauty, with four bright rosy petals set off by long yellow stamens. Look closer, and you might also find Yellow-eyed Grass, Twig-rush, or a dozen other rare plants. Where peaty soils are along the shoreline, you can find patches of Virginia Chain-fern or the delicate fronds of Narrow-leaved Sundew. In shallow offshore waters, there are often Floating Hearts, which look like miniature water-lilies, or the tall spikes of Bayonet Rush. How these plants arrived here is closely linked to the drainage of waters as the glaciers melted away about 12,000 years ago. At one stage, glacial Lake Algonquin, which formed the bluffs in Orillia and the sandy soils west of Washago, drained through the Trent River valley and then south down the Hudson. This link allowed plant species from the Atlantic coastal plain to spread northwards and westwards, taking advantage of these new sandy shorelines. As the glaciers retreated northwards and the land rose from beneath their weight, the Atlantic connection was severed but the plants remained. In most areas, the shorelines eventually became crowded with trees and dense
shrubs, shading out the coastal plain species. But in a scattering of lakes, a very specific set of conditions allowed them to persist. First, the lakes had to be large enough to have wave action that prevented the gradual growth of Sphagnum; the acid bogs that took over many small lakes are not suitable for coastal plain plants. Second, there has to be shallow sloping sandy or peaty soils along the shoreline. And finally, the water levels in the lakes has to drop in late summer, exposing strips of these moist sandy or peaty soils to the sunlight.

Sunrise over Cape Cod shoreline. In those conditions, the buried seed bank of Virginia Meadow Beauty and other coastal plain plants can germinate and quickly grow, providing a welcome splash of early fall colour along the shoreline. You would think that habitat conditions so specialized would make their long-term survival pretty uncertain, but survive they have for thousands of years. If you happen to catch sight of one of these species on a local lake, you are witness to one of the miracles of a very persistent nature. A regular contributor to The Villager, Ron Reid is a natural heritage consultant and the co-founder and former executive director of The Couchiching Conservancy. He has written more than 30 magazine articles and co-authored three books. He lives in Washago with his wife, Janet Grand.

DONALD WESTCOTT
JOHN BETSWORTH
My name is Donald Westcott, a 22-year Severn Township resident. My wife Cathy and I have called Ward 5 home for the past 10 years. I am the father of three adult children and grandfather of two grandsons. After I retired from my career as a police officer, I worked for a local home contractor. I am the current Ward 5 Councillor for the Township of Severn. In the past 4 years, I gained significant knowledge about municipal policy, procedure and protocol, knowledge that helped me move issues forward. An involved community member, I have been a member of the Washago Canada Day, Santa Claus Parade and Canada 150 Celebration committees; and a member and current president of the Washago Garden Club. I have helped raise funds for the Washago Community Centre, the Washago Garden Club and The Friends of the Washago Water Tower, and was the facilitator of the very successful wooden paddle and maple leaf outdoor art projects in Washago. I am proud to say our team has managed your tax dollars extremely well, maintaining excellent services and infrastructure. In 2018 the tax increase was the lowest in all Simcoe County municipalities and we were still able to spend $1.6 million on road/ sidewalk improvements in Ward 5. If re-elected, my priorities will include maintaining a minimum property tax increase; continued support for road and bridge upgrades; improved internet and wireless service; and in Washago, upgrades of the sewer system; a sidewalk on Quetton Street; and additional parking in Washago. Using my strong communication skills, I am committed to continue to be a very active, positive and effective member of both the Ward 5 community and the council team. My campaign office is 3113 Muskoka Street, Washago; telephone number is (705) 689-3594. Visit www.donaldwestcott.ca. Email Donaldmwestcott@gmail.com
Hello. My name is John Betsworth. I am the current Ward 3 Councillor - a resident of Severn Township for 22 years, 12 years in Ward 3 - with over 30 years of business management experience. As your councillor, my job is to represent the ward in a progressive, positive and productive manner. I’m excited about the accomplishments of council during my term. We had the smallest tax increase of all 16 municipalities in Simcoe County; we approved a 5-bed hospice in Ward 3 which will greatly assist families dealing with end of life issues; and new theme-appropriate village and hamlet signage was installed. My direct community service includes the organization of the Ward 3 Canada 150 celebrations; board membership of the ODAS Park Fairgrounds; and participation in the Marchmont ratepayers AGM and community events. With your help, during the next term in office my priorities include working to fight the installation of a new 300-acre aggregate pit in the township, a pit that would create more traffic, dust and noise and harm our environment. I will also focus on maintaining and improving 410 km. of roads, and controlling speed limits, and will lead toward a transparent government. During my term, I responded when residents called and took action when needed. I plan to do the same if elected to the next term. Contact me at 705-325-7191 or email jrbee@rogers.com.

COUNCILLOR, WARD 2
COUNCILLOR, WARD 3
My background and experience: Born and raised in Coldwater, my roots in this community run deep and I care immensely about our Township and the people that live in it. I obtained my BA from McMaster University and after 20 years of working as an Educational Assistant for the Simcoe County Board of Education. I decided to retire this August. I have been a proud member of Township of Severn Council for the past 24 years. Six years as Ward 2 Councillor, and the last 18 as your Deputy Mayor. After much thought, I have decided to run as your Councillor again. I love this township and have worked hard to make it a great and safe place to live. My past experience has given me an overall perspective of where our community has been, where we are now, and where we need to be in the future. My thoughts and objectives: I will continue to support and market our Coldwater & area businesses. Strong businesses make strong communities. I will focus on maintaining and improving roads and expanding recreational and cultural programs for all ages. I will address the many speeding issues and work towards more OPP presence and traffic calming initiatives. And, because farming is our heritage, I want to preserve our rural character and environment. Lastly, I urge everyone to participate in our Official Plan Review next year. This is your chance to have a voice in future land use and development. My promise: I will continue to be accessible, fair and accountable to the residents of Severn Township. I will continue to listen to your concerns and provide quality decisions. Your vote is your voice—be heard! Elect Judith Cox. Committed to community, dedicated to progress. Contact 705-305-1086 or email judithcox@hotmail.com.
Hello, my name is Lynda Gibbons and I am running for Ward 3 Councillor in Severn Township. I am proud to reside and operate a business in Ward 3. Over the years, I have built an excellent rapport with many Ward 3 residents, developing close relationships, sharing many laughs, celebrations, struggles and memories with those people who have become like family to me. In fact, as a business owner of a diner, I can provide great insight into what is important to people in our community because I have been part of those conversations. I am a natural leader with exceptional experience in business management. I will be able to capitalize on these skills to be an effective councillor and voice for the people of Ward 3. In addition, my 32-year experience as a real estate representative has given me knowledge of by-laws, zoning and building issues, something that will be valuable when determining requirements, eligibility, development and growth of our region. As a very people-oriented person, my ability to work well with those from all backgrounds will help me to mediate discussions if needed. One of the pleasures of living in Severn Township is enjoying the charm of the community and the beautiful landscape. My commitment to the residents of Ward 3 is to support the heritage and culture of our region, maintain a safe environment for our residents, and advance Severn as a great place to live, work and play. Collaboration with a team of dedicated individuals, listening effectively to concerns and issues, and treating all residents with respect will be priorities for me as councillor. It will be an honour to serve. Call me at 705-826-2985 or 705-326-494, or email info@ madisondiner.ca.

COUNCILLOR, WARD 1
I love where I live and I am proud of Severn Township’s beauty and history. I grew up on a family farm in North River with my 8 siblings and attended SS #8 Matchedash Public School, Coldwater Public School, and Park Street Collegiate Institute in Orillia. I graduated from the University of Guelph with a BSc in Food Science and have been working in the food industry for 40 years. As a councillor, I supported the water and sewer project in the West Shore, various bridge and road projects in Ward 1, and the start-up of the Coldwater Curling Club. I was previously a member of the Severn Sound Environmental Association and I am currently a director on the Southeast Georgian Bay Chamber of Commerce. If elected, I will continue to strongly support the Coldwater Community Centre, the Matchedash Community Heritage Centre, and the Fire and Emergency Services for the Township, which includes Station 4 in Ward 1 and our Roads Department. In recent years, the Township has budgeted funds for hamlets, villages, and our beautiful trails and I believe this should be continued. Priorities I will bring to the council table include: fiscal responsibility, especially concerning the replacement of Township infrastructure and assets; providing residents with quality roads and bridges; working with the Provincial Government regarding dangerous fires on crown land; and ensure the Province’s Heritage Mapping is done, which will have a huge impact on future development. My pledge is to represent the constituents of Ward 1 with a strong and sensible voice and to effectively work with council and staff as a team to ensure the success of the Township. With your support on Election Day, I will be honoured to serve as Councillor, Ward 1 in Severn Township.

Most important of all, I am committed to actively listening to you and to properly representing the wellbeing of the municipality. I have an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forestry from the University of Toronto. My name is Sarah Valiquette-Thompson and I am proud to announce that I am running in the October election for your Ward 5 Councillor. After 15 + years of visiting my parents’ cottage in the Washago area, I was delighted that a University was opening in the same region where I could pursue my passion for politics through various courses while engaging in some of my favourite hobbies year round: fishing, swimming, outdoor exploring and hiking. After graduation, my husband (Ian Thompson) and I planted our business roots in downtown Orillia as owners of the very successful Era 67 Restaurant for 6 years, which we sold in 2016. We opened R Cottage Restaurant in Washago 3 years ago and have also moved to our new home in Ward 5. The folks of Severn have embraced us with open arms and we are truly grateful to have pursued sharing our passion for food in this community. I am also a current member of City Council in Orillia and, for the past decade, have been an active participant on various boards, committees, social clubs and sporting organizations. I am incredibly hard-working, passionate, creative, vocal, have plenty of energy. I am a loving mother to daughter, Hailey-Jane, and son, Harvey. Since my son was born in August 2017, I have become a strong and loyal advocate for the Down Syndrome community, currently assisting with developing legislation for future families who experience a prenatal diagnosis of Down Syndrome. Politics, people, relationship building, community engagement and helping resolve problems while growing and working together are my purest passions. Tiny libraries have been springing up all over the county. The latest, inspired by Ramona’s Vice-President Glenn Spriggs, and built by local craftsman Larry Dales, is located on the roadside at Ramona Hall. When the decision was made to offer this resource to the community, Glenn and Larry put their heads together to make sure that the new addition had a unique and highly visible design. “We decided we wanted it to look like a red country barn” said Glenn, “And we think Larry captured this idea perfectly.” The library, which is never locked, is open for anyone to borrow a book. And if you have a book to leave in its place that will help keep the library stocked - but it is not required. Users will also find movies and CD’s to borrow. Local teen, Elora Cronk was delighted to get a much desired music CD, and another child was very happy to get the entire Harry Potter series. Ramona’s Eileen Cronk is very impressed with the quality and diverse material people are leaving. “There really is something to interest every age group,” she said. The community sends a big “thank-you” to Glenn and Larry.
Celebrate Washago heritage Heritage Day is coming to Washago, presented by The Friends of the Washago Water Tower committee. It will take place on Saturday, October 20th from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the community centre. Activities will include entertainment by an old time fiddler; presentations about the historical Trent Severn Waterway and Wasdell Falls; a model railroad display; historical society displays; activities for children and much more. The committee promises a lot of learning about the history of our area, all presented in a way to make your afternoon a lot of fun. Admission is by free will giving/donations. Refreshments will be available. Proceeds will go assist the Water Tower committee in beautifying the grounds around the tower.
