I love to shop at antique, thrift, and consignment shops. And I love to shop local. I never know what I might find. However, sometimes these shops pop up, and I don’t even know they exist. Imagine my frustration when I meet up with a friend who just purchased a fabulous item at a new shop that I didn’t know about! When did this shop open and where is it? So I decided to locate as many as possible. Hope you enjoy this guide and when you stop by, let them know that Ariel sent you! It’s time to start using social media. Time to tweet those sales, fabulous finds, and what’s new. Next issue we will be listing all of the shops in Forsyth, Davie, and Davidson County. If you have a shop that you want listed please email the information.

MAKING MEMORIES Starting at age 4, every year on their birthday ask your child the same questions, and see how their answers change over the years! Add a photograph and make a book out of it. Here are some sample questions: 1. What is your favorite color? 2. What is your favorite toy? 3. What is your favorite fruit? 4. What is your favorite tv show? 5. What is your favorite thing to eat for lunch? 6. What is your favorite outfit? 7. What is your favorite game? 8. What is your favorite snack? 9. What is your favorite animal?
10. What is your favorite song? 11. What is your favorite book? 12. Who is your best friend? 13. What is your favorite cereal? 14. What is your favorite thing to do outside? 15. What is your favorite drink? 16. What is your favorite holiday? 17. What is your favorite sport? 18. What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast? 19. What do you want for dinner on your birthday? 20. What do you want to be when you grow up?
We do not remember days; we remember moments. ~Cesare Pavese
MAKE A FAMILY MEMORY Start a family hobby
Hobbies are all about doing something you love. So why not enjoy a hobby you love with the people you love? Finding the right hobby that the whole family enjoys can create some special memories, and once you find the hobby that’s a perfect fit for your family, you’ll rack up the memories.
16
Start a family tradition
Family traditions are the foundation of strong family bonds. Aside from holidays, create some special traditions that will surely become special family memories. This special tradition can be something small and easy (but nonetheless special!) such as pancake breakfasts on Sundays or taking a walk around the neighborhood after dinner.

Ariel’s Shopping TIps 1. Map out a route of the shops you want to visit. This will help you save time and money. 2. Shop often. The more you visit, the more likely you are to find exactly what you are looking for. Many shops have a fast turnover of their most interesting items. 3. Canvass every corner! Don’t just breeze through and glance at items. Recently I was shopping with a Carolina fan and she ran through the shop quickly and went outside to wait. Later on I walked out with a fabulous Carolina collectible. She was really surprised. I gave it to her along with my tip number three. 4. Have a little cash handy. Some shops don’t accept credit cards or checks, so make sure you have cash on hand to make that spontaneous purchase. You know the one I am talking about. You finally find that chicken alarm clock that you just can’t live without. 5. Keep a size chart handy in your bag. Include family members, your best friend, etc. Bring along color swatches and your tape measure. 6. Always check the the items in the glass showcase. This is where you can often find some of the best bargains. 7. When you see something you absolutely adore, grab it! Chances are it won’t be there the next time you visit. In my early shopping days I missed many treasures by hesitating. My greatest loss was an autographed photograph of Great Garbo. 8. Let the shop owner and staff know what type of items you are looking for. Often they will give you a call when something comes in that they think you are interested in. If the shop has a mailing list, sign up for their notices on sales and special event invitations.

GREEN LIVING TIPS PLANT A GARDEN
Growing food yourself saves money, plus it cuts down on the energy used to mass produce and transport food. If you don’t have a green thumb, help organize a community garden or, at the least, buy your food from local farmers.
SAVE WATER
Wait until your washer is full. Don’t run your dishwasher or washing machine until it’s full. Reduce energy consumption by hanging your clothes to dry. Put on a timer for showers Limit showers to just five minutes for everyone in your family. Install low-flow, watersaving showerheads.
CLEAN GREEN
Be eco-friendly by eliminating the use of toxic chemicals in your home. Believe it or not, you can make natural cleaning 28
solutions from salt, baking soda and vinegar that are tough on dirt and grime. Window cleaner - 3 tablespoons of vinegar to one gallon of water Oven cleaner - Add table salt directly to baked-on food while your oven is warm, then wipe away Bathroom cleanser - 2 tablespoons of baking soda to one quart of warm water All-purpose cleaner - 2:1 solution of water and vinegar, plus a squirt of lemon juice
SAVE ENERGY
Switch to energy-efficient appliances. Replace traditional light bulbs with CFLs. Invest in a programmable thermostat (only heat/cool your house when you are home). Turn off your computer when you aren’t using it. Organize a carpool for your office.
