Conditions of Sale 1. All works of art at the exhibition are for sale and may be purchased either by payment in full, or secured by a 10% nonrefundable deposit with the balance of payment to be paid upon collection, which is after closing at 5pm on Sunday 8th March 2020. 2. Payments can be made by MasterCard and Visa although a 2% surcharge will apply. 3. Your painting is identified as sold by a red dot and a receipt is issued. In all cases receipts must be presented at the time of collection. It is preferable that all purchased art is collected after the exhibition at 5pm on Sunday 8th March 2020. The Portland Art Purchase Society Inc. accepts no responsibility for safekeeping after collection time. 4. All works of art have been attributed to those artists named, in reliance on information given by the exhibitors. The Portland Art Purchase Society Inc. has not verified the authenticity thereof and no responsibility is accepted by the committee or Portland Art Purchase Society Inc. 5. In all matters pertaining to sales and general business of the exhibition, the decisions of the Portland Art Purchase Society Inc. are final and no negotiations will be entered into. 6. Message from the Chairperson The committee and I have great pleasure welcoming you to this, the forty-fourth Art Exhibition of the Portland Art Purchase Society Inc. Australians have shown in the last few months how resilient they are in times of trial and loss. I believe that this resilience has also been evident in Portland, as over the last forty-four yeas, as Portland’s fortunes have ebbed and flowed, the community has worked consistently to bring this art exhibition to the area with such success. We owe much to the past committees, community members and supporters, who have brought us to this year’s exhibition. This year we are delighted to welcome our guest artist Natasha Daniloff, who is exhibiting a variety of works. She works across a variety of mediums in her practice and we look forward to the community enjoying her work. Our theme for this year, 2020 Vision, will be interesting to see how our artists interpret!
Portland Art Prize
This year we have a new section for artists to enter – “Simply Drawing”. This was suggested by the local artists, Lesley O’Shea and Joe Penn, who will be awarding the prize. As always, we are very grateful to all those who have supported us in sponsorship and in a practical sense. Our generous sponsors are listed in the catalogue. We thank the Men’s Shed, the students from Portland Central School, the Portland CWA, and individuals who have given us such support. Feature Artist
Natasha Daniloff
T
his year’s Feature Artist is Natasha Daniloff, a Blue Mountains based artist specialising in drawing, painting, mixed media and installation. Her work embraces a broad thematic framework referencing her Russian heritage, Iranian cultural motifs acquired when her family lived in Iran and fuses these with her experiences in the Australian landscape. These themes are explored through layers of materials and meanings. The recipient of several prestigious residencies – Bathurst Regional Gallery Hill End Residency and Launceston City Council’s A.I.R. – she has been able to experience Australia’s diverse landscape and explore further aesthetic possibilities that can visually connect culture and context.
“This landscape is simultaneously potent and strong, fragile and vulnerable. Tree roots cling to rocks creating their own rhythms, becoming powerful metaphors for co-existence and survival,” “I paint what I feel, what I remember - a sense of place, rather than the actual image or objects connected to people and memories. I like to use the poetry of light and shadow to suggest the half remembered; that point when one state of being slips into another.” She has had numerous solo and group shows in Australia and overseas and her work is in collections in the U.S. Britain, Denmark, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia.
