DEAN’S REPORT
WHAT A YEAR! During the past year, the Villanova School of Business (VSB) has continued to create and develop many innovative and forward-thinking initiatives that support our students, faculty and staff. We have continued to recruit and retain world-class faculty, offer expanded student services and new curricular innovations, and recruit outstanding students, all while being named the #1 undergraduate business program in the nation by Bloomberg Businessweek. I want to thank Daniel Wright, PhD for his leadership as Interim Dean and many accomplishments over the past year. I’m glad he is continuing to serve in a leadership position in VSB as Vice Dean. Best,
WE’RE #1 VSB seeks to develop business leaders for a better world. We do this through the promotion of academic excellence; a focus on building a strong community of faculty, staff, students and alumni; opportunities for students to serve others; and student services and programs that provide a student experience like no other. We continue to build programs and initiatives around these ideals.

CURRICULUM ENHANCEMENTS ANALYTICS
The Analytics minor has quickly grown to become the largest minor in VSB. In response to significant student demand and through the support of the Center for Business Analytics, VSB is capitalizing on faculty expertise in this area to launch an analytics co-major this coming fall.
GLOBAL IMMERSION
The Center for Global Leadership (CGL) supported a Global Political Economy class that integrated a study abroad component in Costa Rica during Fall Break for students. It included a case study of Costa Rica that required student teams to investigate sustainable development initiatives, public-private partnerships and the role of agriculture in the economy as well as immigration and human rights issues. Additionally, the Freeman Foundation awarded CGL a $350,000 grant for students to study abroad and intern in Asia.

CONSUMER INSIGHTS
The Center for Marketing & Consumer Insights launched the Consumer Insights Lab, an innovative student-focused initiative that enhances the way VSB students learn about consumer behavior. This year, lab access was expanded to include MBA students, as well as students who are interested in gaining a deeper understanding of entrepreneurial ideas.
CHURCH MANAGEMENT
In response to the Pope’s emphasis on sound management at all levels in the Catholic Church, dioceses across the world have begun to look for ways to improve the skill set of their clergy and laity. Villanova’s Center for Church Management and Business Ethics was approached by the International School of Pastoral Management at the Pontifical Lateran University (PLU) in Rome to form a partnership. This past April, and again in June, VSB faculty taught one-week courses for PLU students on our campus.

ATTRACTING OUTSTANDING STUDENTS PERSONALIZED OUTREACH
VSB increased communications to undergraduate regular decision and early action candidates with targeted emails from the dean throughout the spring semester. This outreach included up to ten touch points with candidates, including video, faculty and student emails, and personalized messages from the dean.
STOVS PROGRAM
VSB continues to partner with the Office of Multicultural Affairs on the Saint Thomas of Villanova Scholars (STOVs) program. Select students started required courses in the summer, and also participated in workshops about academic and social life on campus. The STOVS students learn and practice networking skills with the program’s corporate sponsors, and they connect with representatives from the corporate sponsors through a career panel, networking receptions and an etiquette dinner. This program helps to increase the diversity of the student body and raises the retention rate among that group of students.

YOUTH ENTREPRENEURS
Students from West Philadelphia who previously participated in the Center for Church Management and Business Ethics Youth Entrepreneur Program (YEP) were invited to campus to meet with senior leaders. It is our hope that these high-achieving students who benefited from the YEP program in middle school and high school may soon choose Villanova for their undergraduate education.

REACHING PROFESSIONALS
VSB has employed several strategies to attract highly qualified graduate students, tailored to each unique population. We successfully developed and deployed an Admitted Student Portal, which personalizes the admission process and helps to engage admitted students with the Villanova community.
MSA 88
Fast MBA 66 EMBA 30
Online MBA 84
The Online MBA is now the second largest MBA track and the MSA is the largest specialized master’s program. Combined, the addition of these online programs has expanded our graduate and executive student population by almost 50%. Our online MBA program has allowed us to provide additional flexibility to our campus-based students, an attractive value proposition for our busy working professional population. Each semester we open select online sections for our campus-based MBA students. These are very popular and allow individuals to continue to make progress toward their degree in semesters in which their work or life circumstances warrant increased flexibility.
This spring, we also launched a new graduate program branding campaign around the theme Part of Something Bigger. The campaign capitalizes on our outstanding part-time programs for the working professional. Our students are driven and continue to work, go to school, serve their communities, spend time with their families and participate in many other activities that are important to them. Our programs are part of something bigger, and we help our students become part of something bigger.

CONNECTING WITH ALUMNI
We launched an alumni microsite, VSB Connect, designed to visually show the success of our alumni. Our goals are to encourage enrollment by allowing prospective students to see the positive impact a VSB degree can mean for their future, and also to keep alumni connected to VSB and each other. More than 100 alumni have created profiles to connect with each other. Please visit vsbconnect.org to meet our successful alumni! We also launched our #beingVSB videos. These student-produced videos star VSB students sharing what it means to “be VSB.” We are using this series on social media to encourage prospective students to join our community. Each student shares their personal story and why VSB is such a special place. We launched a formal alumni engagement strategy for Graduate Business Programs. We focused on organizing and leveraging our alumni to better serve our community through corporate engagement, employer relations, and richer student and faculty experiences. Though groups for the Executive MBA and MBA alumni associations have been in place previously, this year focused on formalizing relationships and activities. DEAN’S REPORT

The newly established Charlotte and James V. O’Donnell ’63 Center for Professional Development officially launched in September 2015. The Center is designed to enhance the focus on professional development activities, resources and initiatives for undergraduate and graduate business students.
YOUR GENEROSITY
VSB engaged its stakeholders to generate impressive fundraising outcomes. This year, you supported us by contributing $8,146,273 across endowments, restricted gifts and unrestricted funds, and the Dean’s Fund for Strategic Initiatives raised $739,971. We are grateful for this generous support which helps to elevate our faculty, enhance our learning environment, engage our students and enrich our community.
VSB MENTOR PROGRAM
VSB expanded its Mentor Program—first piloted in 2014 for sophomore women—to include all upperclassmen and graduate students. For the class of 2018, there are 145 mentor-mentee pairs; about 60 percent are VSB female students. In addition, there are more than 600 alums who have expressed interest in serving as a mentor. It is a terrific way to engage our alumni as well as provide unique opportunities and perspectives for our students.
