Stella and Ava are sisters. Stella is seven years old. She loves ballet. She loves crocheting. She also loves helping her little sister.

Ava is three years old. She loves babies. She loves doing cartwheels and playing with her puppy. She loves her big sister, Stella.

Today will be a special day for Ava. She will learn to go to the bathroom on the potty! Mommy tells Ava a story. “A fairy lives in the Brite Star forest. When you go pee-pee or poopy the fairy brings you a treat later! When you put the potty seat down, wash your hands and turn off the light, the fairy flies away to get your treat.”

Ava was excited to try to potty. She tried and tried. Finally she did go potty! “Yay!” Stella cheered for her little sister. She helped Ava put the potty seat down, wash her hands and turn off the light.

Then Stella and Ava went outside to play. When Stella went back inside to get a drink later she saw something exciting. “Ava!” she called, “come see this!”

Ava ran inside to see what Stella wanted. She found a yummy treat just for her! “The Brite Star Fairy came!” she cried. She was very happy!

Every time Ava went in the potty, the Brite Star Fairy came! It was wonderful! One day Mommy took the girls shopping. While they were in the store Ava went potty in the store’s restroom. When they got home Stella said, “Ava, check if the Brite Star Fairy came.”

Ava ran to the bathroom and . . . there was a treat waiting for her! “How did the Brite Star Fairy know that I went potty in the store’s restroom?” she asked.

Stella tried very hard not to giggle. Mommy smiled at her and gave her a wink. Stella winked right back at Mommy.

“Ava,” Stella said, in a very grown up voice, “the Brite Star Fairy knows where you are all the time.”

When Ava went to play Stella and her mommy gave each other a big hug. Mommy told Stella “Good job Stella, thanks for helping!”

Think About It

• What did Ava need to learn to do? • Why did the story of the Brite Star Fairyhelp? • What things did Ava have to remember to do after going potty? • Who really gave Ava the treats? • How did Stella help with Ava learning to gopotty? Let’s Work Together! Learning something new, like going potty in the bathroom, can be hard and sometimes even scary. Have you learned to go potty? If yes, when? If not, are you ready to try? Talk to your mommy about it. I Will . . . • Be brave when I have new things to learn. • Not be afraid to ask for help when I needit. • Find ways to help others who are learning how to do new things.

It’s OK to be nervous about learning to do something new. But remember that growing up means learning new things. You can tell your mommy or daddy when you’re nervous. When you do learn something new—Celebrate!
