On waking up

Page 1

On Waking Up I want to wake up Get out of the sheets, Wash my face and Rinse my mouth. Then take a sip of good strong coffee Fry up some bacon and Maybe some eggs And finish my coffee Chasing it with the finest whiskey. Then I want to pour a second Sip it while I write another Note to you, Different from the ones I wrote before. Maybe I'll stick it on the refrigerator, But we have no magnets So I might leave it on the table. After all this I'll leave the house Stick a piece of gum in my mouth Note the red door and the black stairs Leading to the purple porch. Then I'll walk out, Through the gate of our White picket fence, And look at the sun Wandering in a flawless sky, Letting it burn a colourful image Into my mind. I'll walk down the street Take a left and Catch the bus, The one Johnny said. I'll follow his directions To that secret shop Where they ask no questions And tell them 'Johnny sent me'. Then I'll take the package they give me, Keep it well hidden As they advise. Find our beautiful place And sit on the ground.

There, I will pull my purchase Out of the bag they gave me Follow their simple instructions: 'Slip one in the chamber, Make sure the safety is off.' I'll smile at the sun once more, Maybe even wish I'd had One more coffee Whiskey And a kiss.
