Project Beanspenser - A Coffee Bean Dispenser

Product Design 12

Why a coffee bean dispenser, why Beanspenser? Coffee beverages paly important roles when people think about drinking. And the third wave of coffee emphasizes orignal characters of each kinds of beans. Thus, the drip coffee culture has become the main stream recently. However according to some interviewing, people just enjoy the process that dripping hot water on the coffee particles rather than preparing the appropriate quatity of beans. So we need a gadget that is like a dispenser to dispense the accurate quantiy of beans we need, and I call it Beanspenser!

How does Beanspenser work? Inspired from a homehold coffee spoon, which scales quantity of beans by capacity rather than by weight of them, Beanspenser makes good use of the idea into its critical mechanism. After many times measurements, I found when each 10-gram beans get together, their capacity equals about 30 cubic centimeter. So I applied this outcome into a small box and combined the drawer way as flent using process.

“10g = 30 cm3 -by experiment

Modeling & Testing I used CAD to design the main body and mechanism and then 3D-printed its componenets! The Acrylic hollow tube was chosen to be the upper vessel and downside cup. I spent most time polishing the appearance, painting ornament and adjusting details. All of the efforts are presented in the final result.
