Hitra has great variation in topography, vegetation and wildlife. Forests, swamps, mountains and a myriad of lakes. And well-maintained and marked hiking trails make it possible for most people to get out into nature. Ulvøystien at Ulvøya outside Fjellværøya has been named the finest trail at Hitra. But taste and pleasure differ from person to person.

In Historical Environment

Hitra’s history begins with the first strangers who came here over 10 000 years ago. Those who came across the ice, from different parts of Europe. Settlements from the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age have been identified at Hitra. And there has been settlement here ever since. Bicycle Tours

We have made 6 suggestions for bike rides that mostly go on low-traffic roads. As is well known, there is some heavy traffic at Hitra in connection with transport of salmon from the salmon slaughterhouses at Frøya and Ulvøya at Hitra. If you choose from our suggested trips, you are as spared as possible from the busiest stretches.

FRØYA – HOW TO MAKE YOUR HOLIDAY UNFORGETTABLE

Frøya is the smallest island and is located furthest out at sea. Here you will find most of the aquaculture companies, and many salmon magnates resides here in secluded coves with the great sea as their closest neighbour. The island has its own unique appeal towards anyone from film creators and food enthusiasts to cyclists, and can tempt with moonlit kayak trips, hot-smoked salmon and a glass of bubbles while enjoying the sunset. Find your own version of the island –we can guarantee you will come back for another visit.
