Started by Ruth and Peter Simon and their young daughter Marion in the late 1950s, Simeon Stud has evolved from a modest program based on Crabbet and Russian bloodlines, to an exclusively Straight Egyptian herd comprised of many of the best individuals obtained from around the world representing an impressive diversity of genetics. Today, Marion Richmond is credited as the visionary breeder behind more than ten generations of Simeon-bred Arabian horses, many of whom have achieved extraordinary success on every continent. As a very special treat for WAHO guests, Marion and Team Simeon will welcome you on Thursday morning to the picturesque suburb of Dural, in the Hills District of Northern Sydney, just a short coach trip from the Central Coast. the morning breeding presentation both educational and enlightening, while Marion’s world-renowned hospitality is sure to make the afternoon lunch a highlight of the entire Conference. Aristocrat Dam SIMEON SAADA graces the cover of the brochure, a living representative celebrating the international community of the Arabian horse, and a fitting tribute to the invaluable connection shared by WAHO members. Her sire ASFOUR was bred in Germany by former WAHO president Dr. Hans Nagel, while her maternal grandsire SANKT GEORG was bred in the USA. Her granddam is none other than Simeon’s most important foundation mare, the iconic 27 IBN GALAL V, bred by the Bábolna State Stud in Hungary. SIMEON SAADA, born in 1990, is pictured wearing the traditional bridle of her beloved granddam, imported from Europe in 1974.

m ul a wa arabia n stud to ur + dinner Celebrating nearly half a century of commitment and dedication to the Arabian breed, the Farrell Family and Team Mulawa look forward to welcoming the global WAHO Community for the Mulawa Arabian Stud Tour on Thursday afternoon. As one of Australia’s leading Arabian breeding programs, Mulawa remains committed to the desert ideal of the elegant athlete, creating horses that possess the ultimate combination of both beauty and utility. Faithfully stewarding over ten generations of Mulawa-bred Arabians from fourteen essential dam families, the Farrell Family continues to raise the standard for the Arabian horse both at home and, increasingly so, around the world with the very distinct and instantly recognisable ‘Mulawa Arabian’. Both the Arabian and Warmblood programs will be featured on Thursday afternoon, showcasing many of the top performers currently in residence. Following the presentation, guests will be treated to a relaxing BBQ dinner at Ambition, home to Mulawa Performance, set against the majestic backdrop of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.
Mulawa Arabian Stud will also be generously hosting Post-Conference attendees during Tour HV | Hunter Valley and Australia's Horse Capital on Sunday 10th February. The Farrell Family cordially invite you to experience the breadth and depth of the breeding program at Alabama Stud, near Scone, home to nearly 200 horses including all the chief sires, broodmares and youngstock. Mulawa Arabian Stud is the proud breeder of 2015 WAHO Trophy Winner KLASS, sired by the Brazilian-bred TS AL MALIK and out of the iconic foundation mare KARMAA, bred by WAHO ‘Founding Father’ Jay Stream and his wife Dorothy in the USA. Born in 2003 and featured on the back cover of the brochure demonstrating the classic Aussiestyle discipline of Working Stock Horse, KLASS exemplifies not only the inherent versatility and exceptional intelligence of the Arabian horse, but also the extraordinary international diversity that defines our WAHO Community.

hunter valley & australia's horse capital The Hunter Valley is one of Australia's top tourist destinations, famous for both world-class wines and the best equines in the Southern Hemisphere.
The rural heritage town of Scone is globally renowned as 'Australia's Horse Capital', home to the majority of the leading Thoroughbred studs and one of the largest Arabian breeding herds on the continent, as well as being the heart of Australian Stockhorse country, a breed whose origins trace directly to a significant infusion of Arabian blood. The Hunter Valley wine region is the oldest in Australasia, attracting more tourists each year than South Australia's Barossa Valley and McClaren Vale, and Western Australia's Margaret River Region. On Sunday, local equine tour expert Craig Benjamin will be our guide for intimate 'behind-the-scenes' experiences at three of the most prominent studs in the area, home to legendary athletes and celebrated breeding horses. The morning kicks off with a visit to Mulawa Arabian Stud’s Alabama Farm, home to the entirety of the Arabian and Warmblood breeding programs, including all the chief sires, broodmares and youngstock being raised on the this expansive property. Lunch and wine tasting at Hollydene Estate in nearby Jerrys Plains will set the stage for a spectacular afternoon, as the vineyard’s hillside location overlooks the well groomed paddocks of Coolmore Australia, a division of the world’s largest Thoroughbred breeding operation. A stud tour at Coolmore will immediately follow, as will a special visit to the incredible Widden Stud, an iconic Aussie stud farm owned and operated by the Thompson Family for over 150 years. The coach will depart for Sydney late in the afternoon with a dinner stop along the route at the charming Wyong Milk Factory, an inspiringly renovated dairy farm that features two dining options: at the cosy Café, or for the full farm experience, at The Rusty Udder Bar and Grill. Evening return will be provided to the Mercure Sydney Airport hotel, for an overnight stay before your departure home, or to Victoria or Queensland for continued post-conference tour enjoyment. The New Zealand Arabian Horse Society has thoughtfully scheduled their National Show the weekend after the WAHO 2019 Conference, affording international guests the opportunity to attend the premier annual event on the Kiwi show calendar, while enjoying the company and the camaraderie of New Zealand's many dedicated breeders and owners. Post-Conference tour guests will have the option of departing either Brisbane or Melbourne, following the Post-Conference tours in each of the neighbouring Australian states, early in the morning on Thursday 14th February. Auckland, the jewel of North Island, is just a short three-hour flight from Australia's East Coast, affording travellers the opportunity to enjoy nearly two full days of local sight seeing activities. The international airport (AKL) is just a short 15km drive to the central business district; airport transfers will be provided to the host hotel for Thursday evening – the M Social overlooking Auckland's vibrant Princes Wharf. Breathtaking Auckland, the 'City of Sails', is the largest in New Zealand, a bustling urban hub nestled between two contrasting coastlines, rich with a combination of metropolitan delights and natural landscapes. Water is a central feature of the incomparable Auckland lifestyle, so be sure to enjoy plenty of time on the waterfront, from the rugged landscape of the West Coast beaches to the expansive Hauraki Gulf around which the city thrives, home to the most iconic local island of Rangitoto, the youngest volcanic cone in the region, and the haven of Waiheke Island, home to the region's best wineries and olive orchards, just a short 35-minute ferry ride from the city centre. New Zealand's internationally award-winning tourism website, 100% New Zealand, is brimming with options and possibilities for local Auckland attractions, from must-do-experiences, scenic highlights, the finest food and wine, and the best in local shopping. An Auckland City Tour is also highly recommended for a reasonably priced, more personally catered and thoroughly entertaining option to experience the best of this glittering world capital. Should you arrive on Thursday 14th, remember your Valentine and treat him/her to something special at one of Auckland's world-class eateries.

After two full days of spectacular sightseeing on your own, you will be treated on Saturday and Sunday to the generosity and hospitality of the Auckland Arabian Horse Club. Departing early each morning via coach from the charming local Tuakau Hotel, you will enjoy the beauty and versatility of the Arabian and Arabian Derivative breeds both in hand and under saddle at the New Zealand Arabian National Championships, hosted just a short ride away at the Showfields Equestrian Centre in Hampton Downs. Share in this prestigious experience as a VIP guest, enjoying a catered lunch each day, a special presentation of Living Legends – breeding, show and sport horses of significance including recent WAHO Trophy Winners, the consummate company of local New Zealand breeders and owners, and honoured guest status at the Breeders' Gala Dinner on Saturday evening. Post-Conference Tour guests will have the opportunity to depart on Sunday evening 17th February, or conversely on Monday 18th should your departing flights leave earlier in the day. Once in New Zealand, however, we would enthusiastically encourage you to explore more of the awe-inspiring wonder of 'Middle Earth' on this volcanic island paradise of Aotearoa, by extending your trip and taking in more of the sights on both North and South Island. Coming all the way to WAHO 2019 Conference Australia without an extended visit to New Zealand is an opportunity missed! The passionate Kiwi breeders, owners and professionals look forward to hosting you and sharing the best of this natural paradise, as well as our shared love of the Arabian horse. Kia Ora!

SUN EX PO S U RE
CU RR EN CY
February is summertime in the Southern Hemisphere and Australia's New South Wales Coast is the ideal location to enjoy the best of our summer weather. Both the Central Coast and Sydney enjoy around 7 hours of cloud-free sunshine daily, with sunrise before 6AM and sunset after 7PM. Daytime temperatures are normally around 26-30°C with some humidity. Occasional days can reach well above average temperatures, with higher humidity. We encourage you to check the local projected forecast before you depart to help you plan and pack appropriately.
Do be aware that the Australian and New Zealand summer sun is very strong and can cause sunburn even on cloudy days. Even if you are from a sunny country and climate, please stay safe by bringing sun protection essentials. When you are out and about, we highly recommend you use a water-resistant sunscreen (SPF30+ or higher) and wear a sunhat, sunglasses and loose clothing covering your arms and legs. Always protect against heat exhaustion by keeping well hydrated.
The national currency of both Australia and New Zealand is called the dollar. Logically, in Australia the currency is referred to as the Australian Dollar (AUD); in New Zealand, the New Zealand Dollar (NZD); each national currency has its own exchange rate on the international market. Please verify the current exchange rate for each currency prior to your arrival. Currency exchange is available at banks, hotels and international airports; cash withdrawal machines are common in towns and cities. Credit and debit cards such as VISA or MasterCard are widely accepted.
The climate in Auckland and the North Island of New Zealand in February is slightly more temperate with daytime temperatures in the mid to low 20s°C, with moderate humidity. Cloud cover is more common with rainfall likely, on average, six to seven days throughout the month.
TI ME ZO N E In February, New South Wales operates on Daylight Savings Time, encompassing both Sydney and the Central Coast in Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT), which is 11 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time. Auckland and the North Island of New Zealand are also on Daylight Savings Time (NZDT) in February, which equates to 13 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.
TRAVEL I N S U RA N C E Pre-purchasing suitable travel insurance that covers you for theft, loss, accidents and medical problems is highly recommended. Please remember to bring your insurance policy details and emergency contact numbers with you.
EL ECTRI C I TY Electrical grid voltage in Australia and New Zealand is 230V 50Hz. Travellers from most nations in Asia, Africa, South America and Europe should have appliances that work on the same voltage as Australia. Travellers from the USA, Canada and Japan, whose appliances use 100/120V 50/60Hz, will need to bring a voltage converter for appliances that do not already have converters in their charging cords (most mobile phones and lap top charging cables already possess voltage converters). Both countries use the same plug (two angled prongs). Please see the Conference website for more details.
