GOONDIWINDI REGIONAL VISITOR INFORMATION CENTRE P: 07 4671 7474 Goondiwindi, from the Aboriginal word, ‘Goonawinna’ meaning ‘the resting place of the birds’, you will find the embracing country spirit of the people of Goondiwindi hard to beat.

THINGS TO DO:

1. Explore a working cotton farm and be treated to a country morning tea with the Goondiwindi Cotton Tour. (K11) 2. Wander through Bowen Lane to discover the hidden gems that are Lanescape’s colour public art installations. (K12) 3. Take on a western pub crawl through the region and meet some friendly larrikins along the way.. 4. Take a step back in time and learn about the customs duties between NSW and QLD, as well as other local stories, while visiting the charming Customs House and Museum, and then wander across the road to the Sandstone Bird Sculptures. (K13) 5. There is no better way to stretch the legs than the 4km River Walk that winds alongside the picturesque Macintyre River. (K13) 6. Marvel at the original 1914 Historic Border Bridge connecting NSW and QLD and relax, reminisce and have your photo taken with the famous ‘Goondiwindi Grey’ at the Gunsynd Memorial Park and Statue. (L13) 7. Stop in and escape to the air-conditioned comfort of the restored flamboyant Art Deco Cinema / Theatre and Visitor Information Centre. Enjoy a movie at the cinema, see the latest free art exhibition on display in the Art Space or chat to our friendly visitor information staff. (K12) 8. Pack a picnic, or a frisbee and enjoy the 25ha of outdoor native gardens at the Goondiwindi Botanic Gardens. (B7) 9. Join the locals for some great fishing; there are plenty of Murray Cod or Yellowbelly to be caught across the region. 10. We love our sport, and you are welcome to join us at the 18-hole golf course (J7), bowls green (I12), skate park (F8) or swimming pool (I12), to name just a few. 11. Enjoy a BBQ lunch, watch the water sports at the attractive picnic area or explore the wildlife with the nature walks at the Natural Heritage and Water Park. (R12) 12. Grab your Bird Watching checklist from the Visitor Information Centre and find out why Goondiwindi means the resting place of the birds. 13. As a major hub for the region, the Shopping in our Main Street CBD area will not disappoint; there is everything you need and a few things you don’t, to keep you looking good. 14. Make sure you leave enough time to decide what cuisine you are going to enjoy, you’ll be surprised by the extensive dining and takeaway options available. 15. Be sure to plan ahead and enjoy the many vibrant and exciting events while you are in town; everything from Gourmet in Gundy, the Picnic Races, Cutting Futurity, Polo Competition, Hell of the West Triathlon, Community Garden Markets or even the Giant Model Aircraft; simply too many to choose from.
