Doctor’s Surgery................ (I8)
It was on the 13th March 1862, at his Camp 24, situated on the left bank of a broad waterhole, that the explorer William Landsborough, Commander of the Victorian and Queensland Land Expedition searching for Burke and Wills, named O’Connell Creek, 2 miles west of Richmond. This creek was named after Maurice O’Connell, the Crown Land’s Commissioner stationed at Dalrymple, who later perished from thirst in the west.

The centre is a ‘must see’ for every visitor travelling the Overlander’s Way – “Australia’s most exciting fossil display” is primarily dedicated to displaying marine reptiles. Star attractions, the Richmond Pliosaur and Minmi – both over 100 million years old – have to be seen to be believed.
