ABOUT CREATOR My name is Vinsensius Michael Chandra, i’m a fresh graduate at the Parahyangan Catholic University, major in Architecture. I live in Jakarta Indonesia and have a purpose to make the world a better place, by being an architect. As a fellow designer, i learn that the process of designing architectural project can be achieve by so many different ways. For me, the important thing is that architecture can bring benefit for humanity, it can be enjoyed and usefull at the same time. As long as architecture is build base on it’s background, it will be a blessing.

Batik fashion is another ways to preserve Batik by motivating user to recognise Batik as a trend or style to dress up. It becomes one of the activities that accomodates people and artist to appriciate Batik Culture by understanding and acknowledge its importance.
BATIK CULTURE IN INDONESIA Batik is one of many culture in Indonesia that has a meaningful value for the people in Indonesia. Every province in Indonesia most likely have a unique pattern in their Batik’s and it becomes their identitiy. Batik’s culture becomes pretty popular and many people had yet to realize Batik becomes a kind of an important role in Indonesia’s lives. From its richness, it becomes world wide known and had been recognize by UNCESCO on 2nd October 2009 and was designated a National Batik Day. Even on, every friday, schools and offices make their students and employees to wear Batik clothes in Indonesia. In the millenials timeline, Batik’s culture can become extinct. Nowdays, Batik can be printed and sell in cheap price. Batik becomes a fabric of pattern with less value, just like other clothes. That is why Batik needs to be preserved, so it can be passed on to the next generation. By knowing its culture, the history, meaning, and also how it’s made, Batik culture becomes sustain and doesn’t lose its value.
BATIK OF WEST JAVA West Java is one of many province in Indonesia that has many Batik’s culture. Each of their city has a unique pattern that had a meaning behind of it. Every Batik’s different, it has an identity and a unique of character. To its context, Bandung as a creative city that had many success in terms of their ecomony move in various secotrs, one of them is in fashion industries. This is due to the large amount of number on factory outlets and distros which become one of the main attration for tourist to visit Bandung.

ARCHITECTURE AS RESPONSE FOR CULTURE One of ways for preserve Batik’s Culture is Architecture. Architecture that can acts as a space that can accomodate activities that are aimed at increasing people’s understanding of knowledge about Indonesia Batik’s. By creating a workshop to learn, exibition to inspire, showcase to encourage Batik’s artist and workers, and others facilities to support. The goal of this design of Gallery of West Java Batik is to : • Showing of types of Batik that are in West Java • Exhibiting the work of Wes Java Batik artists • Educate the history and process of making Batik • Indtroduce the development of West Java Batik fashion
BUILDING CONCEPT SYMBOLIC
SEQUENTIAL
PATTERN
Gallery of West Java Batik is a symbolic kinds of a building to create a powerful figure to be the representative of all Batiks in the West Java.
A concept for the circulation inside of the building that was insipre by the process and methid to creating Batik in Indonesia
Batik have a strong link to pattern. The pattern brings an identity to each city. This concept is apply to the building to brings the sense of proudness to the richness ofIndonesia’s Batiks.

TRANSFORMATION AND MASSING PROCESS THE SITE
CIRCULATION
The site is in the area of tourism and located near the south gate of Bandung Train Stration. It also has two roads that can access to the site and had a view to the Viaduct Bridge.
Access to the building is determined by types of roads that is more busy than the other one, also an exit to roads that tends to be more quite.
THE TWO SIDES
CLARITY AND OPENING
Instead of creating a one big mass, with creating two mass that are facing to either roads with a slimmer shape. The space inside can get more natural light coming in to the room.
Placing a circle as an pin point for the two mass of contact, creates a clarity which space that tends to be more important than the other one. Its different shape also creates a sense of important space.
STACKING
COATING
Stacking the mass by its floor, dividing the zoning base on what types of the user activity with a public and sterile kind.
Creating a “coat” to highlight the space that are important. This coating concept is inspire by the process of making batik and its traits that imitates a building that had been wrap by a batik’s fabric.

FACADE CONCEPT The facade of the building is the main element of the architecture design process. It is inspired by the process of making Indonesia Batik’s. What’s unique and special about the process is a step by step method, the process is consist of coating, coloring, and drying with numbers of repetition. One of the process is called “Malam”, it’s a technique to coat a piece of white fabric with a wax before the coloring process. The facade acts as a “wax” of the building for the purpose to giving an identitiy and meaning to the building by a certain pattern. The facade of the building is “coating” the three main function of the builidng, • The permanent gallery of batik. • The temporer gallery of batik. • The batik’s workshop. The purpose and meaning to coat this three function is to give a big amount of clarity for the building’s function important space.

18
MATERIAL OF LOCALISM The material of the building is using a certain tool of the making of Batik Cap. Nowdays, with the advances of technology, batik can be printed. With its efficiency and cheap price, Batik’s becomes less meaningfull and loss its true identitiy. Localism is an important aspect in Batik’s Culture, the purpose of using this certain material is to give an attraction by introducing the tools itself with a huge amount of different pattern that West Java has. By revealing to public that Indonesian Batik’s Culture is rich and full of color also meanings.
19
The interior inside the gallery is design to be dark with the help of artificial lighting. This is due to the thing that are been display is fabric base exhibition, which is needs a sort of requirement like room temperature, avoid of sunlight, and a great maintenance. That’s why this buiding is design to have a skylight in the circulation area to purposely gives a natural daylighting to come inside of the building.

Delta of Pulosari is an urban scale project that is assigned in architecture class that studies urban matters in Parahyangan University. It was a team project, with 6 people on it. The final output is to make a video and final presentation for designing a problematic urban area in Bandung. Mentor :
Dr. Y. Karyadi Kusliansjah, S.T., M.T.
The residential in Delta Pulosari typology tends to be more horizontal housing types with a little gap between housing or no gaps at all. Narrow space between the gap can be a circulation we call “gang that has so minimal light coming in and a limited amount number of people to get on it.
SITE CONDITION
Urbanization process is something that is can’t be avoidable, the needs for shelter to accomodating people’s daily lives is not something that is truly essential, and sometimes cases like urban slum tends to be happen. The residential of Delta Pulosari is one of the victim from urbanization process. The neighborhood in Delta Pulosari have limit amount of space but have a huge responsible to contain many lives. But the most problematic case in Delta Pulosari is the minimal amount of public space. After all this land is suppose to be an open green area, but reality just a residential that is very dense. Daily activity from the resident also can effect the Cikapundung river hygine.
CONTEXT AND PROBLEM Cikapundung River is Bandung’s main water resource. It has big impacts and had an important role for Bandung city. Along the river, there is a unique urban elements located in the river, its the Delta. In Bandung City’s regulation term, the delta is suppose to be a green area for the city to breathe, but instead, it become a housing area of the citizen of pulosari. Urban sprawl is a common phenomenon in an urbanization process of a city, it can be a tragedy or maybe a potential. This project is offering a solution to design delta pulosari to become more responsible as a green area base on its land use regulation by maintain the need of everday life of citizen of pulosari.
PROBLEM A The red spot in this diagram is suppose to be a green area with open space.
PROBLEM B Limited gap, creates narrow circulation with minimal lighting.
31
PROBLEM C There suppose to be a setbacks near the river, in this this the river will most likely be tainted.
MAP OF DELTA PULOSARI
We can see from the figure-ground map, Delta Pulosari land situation is very dense and its full of residential housing and very minimal open space. Also, the housing placement is located very near to the Cikapundung River which is very dangerous for the posibility of landslide. This placement is also violate the city regulation to have a minimum amout if space between the river and a building.
V. Michael Chandra | Selected Architectural Works | Vol 01 |2015-2019
32
DESIGN PROCESS OF REVITALIZATION DELTA PULOSARI The design process of this urban concept is to detect the problems and what is suppose to be base on the regulation at first. After that, creating a solution with the facts in considerate, in this context, the resident that are already living in the space. The design must to be accomodates the user needs, and follow the regulations.
Delta Pulosari condition with limited space and very dense housing. It can cause Cikapundung River’s hygine.
In terms of regulation, the first step is to follow the urban plan in land of use term. From the regulation this delta is suppose to be a green area.
33
Aside from the land use regulation. We have to create space between the building to the river, this is due to the river’s regulation to protect rivers from tainted things like trash, etc.
From the setbacks and the delta, we design the space to attract other activities, to people to gather. Unique public spaces in Bandung are needed to attract other people to gather or doing a certain group activities.
Knowing urbanization process is not avoidable, we can’t change the fact that numerous of resident already live in that place for a long time. So we decided to create a vertical housing with a rent base for every month around the Delta.. The ground floor is designed to be pilotis, so that people from outside can see through the Delta, the goal is to avoid the Delta to be isolated, it should be permeable and a place to gather.
V. Michael Chandra | Selected Architectural Works | Vol 01 |2015-2019
34
Looking from the top view, between each housing have a wider gap then the previous ones. This is to respond the lack of natural light to brighten the building and circulation. We design the green area to becomes a public space that can accomodates various activities for the resident of Pulosari. We create circulation with paving so people can jog in the morning, a decent amount of bench for people to sit and talk, also a public chess game for people to have a little entertaiment. We designed the green area and also area near the river to have railing for safety, so kids can play around with ease.
35
V. Michael Chandra | Selected Architectural Works | Vol 01 |2015-2019
36
The ground floor is designed to be pilotis for people can still see through the Delta. The goal is to make the Delta is not isolated, but can be the center of attraction for people to come. Therefore, the ground floor is function as parking lots, but just for motorcycle and bicycle. It also has security post fot safety reason.
We decided to add more access to the Delta, that way more people can have easy access to the green area, also it will be more effecient.
We design the Delta to have a lot of threes in it, so people can enjoy their outdoor activity with cool atmosphere without hit by direct sunlight.
37
The Delta is designed to be use for public, therefore it shouldn’t be isolated. It should be an attraction, inviting people. Transparency is key, the pilotis column makes the housing to lift up and creating an opening to the Delta.
P.03 RE - SCHOOL
Type : Project : Area : Location : Team
:
School Competition 336 m2 Kalimantan Erick Otto Taryana Yanlymar Inka Halim
Re-School is one of VOLUME ZERO competition that was held in 2018. The contest challenged the participants to design an innovative school that brings education to children living in the most inaccessible areas of the world, while also being a hub for interaction between the local communities.
LOCATION There’s a boy who lives in North Kalimantan near the border of Indonesia-Malaysia. Every day he has to go back and forward from Indonesia to Malaysia to reach his school. Accessibility to education is every children’s right. Therefore, we set our site in Temajuk village, North Kalimantan, a village which very lack of school. Our goal is to provide a reachable access for kids who needs to go to school both in Indonesia and Malaysia.
41
The design process, is to create a 7x3 squares, with the same area, that are base on the capacity of one class, the area of one square can be a classroom. The design first is to create access in the middle and a corridor to connecting each squares. The squares can be switch to another function like an office, and also a toilet.
V. Michael Chandra | Selected Architectural Works | Vol 01 |2015-2019
42
THE IDEA We design the building to be as simple as possible. Lookin at the user itself, the school is for poor kids, therefore we designed it to bring a sense of traditional yet flexible enough for the building itself to be use for other needs.
Since the site is in a tropical land, we design the roof to be suitable for tropical environment. The roof is adopted by one of Indonesia traditional housing, “Badak Heuay”. It has a triangle shape, with a little gap in the top for warm air to exit. The building can accomodates 9 classes with a capacity of 20 elementary student in one class. This classes all are in a square form and don’t have door as an opening. We use curtain as an opening to increase the building flexibilty. It has two stories, with the 1st floor used for the classrooms, toilet, and administration office. While the 2nd floor used as a reading room and mini library.
The rotating wall is closed when class is start.
The rotating wall can be rotate halfway, and can become a semi outdoor space.
The blackboard is to showcase other activites like student’s art or drawing competition.
45
THE ROTATING WALLS Our design provides an innovative way to create an education not exclusive only for the students but for the society, in this case, the surrounding village. A rotating wall with a blackboard on it can be used to play for the students and their friends with a little interest to study inside the school. On the after school hour, the rotating wall creates simple booths for local communities to develop a local business and a cooperative. A cooperative can support the village economically by distributing and managing the capital for business.
The second floor is to accomodates student for reading. It can act as a mini library.
Adopting one of the traditional roof in Indoneisa, “Badak Heuay

46
The material we use to design the building is wood, straw, and cheap roof tiles. The building is designed to be a traditional as possible to bring out the sense of localism in the building.
47
The corridor can be use for public announcement for students or any other activites that needs bigger space.
The books is saved down the seating area.
The rotating walls and the blackboard.

P.04 BOGOR STATION PARKING FACILITY Type : Project : Area : Location : Team
:
Parking Facility Competition 4400 m2 Bogor Eduardus Adistira Yanlymar Inka Halim
Bogor Station Parking Facility is one of ADW architecture competition that was held in 2019. The competition invites architecture students from all over Indonesia to participate in creating buildings that can be one of the quality and ideal solutions in the form of Park and Joy.
UNDERSTANDING THE SITE Bogor station is one of the crowdedness station in Indonesia, but sometimes the reason is not because there is so many people or cars around there, there is much more factor that cause this crowdedness. Lookin at the site, we can see that Bogor Station have numberous amount of cadger or street vendors. In Indonesia, street vendors are usually illegal, they tend to gather in place that are many people will be at. The problem is, because of they are illegal, they tend to use the pedestrian ways or the streets for them to operates, the result then people walks in discomfort, causing traffic jam, and crowdiness. Aside from the street vendors, there also problems with public trasport that names “Angkot”. Angkot is a public transportation that has 4 wheels, a shape similar to a tram, and can accomodates 8 to 12 people. Usually the driver is pay by how many people is using it, that’s why numerous amout of Angkot is staying and waiting to gather people from Bogor Station to go to another desitination. In the site, Angkots don’t have place to park, that’s why their waiting on the side of the street that can cause trafiic jam.
53

54
LOCATION POTENTIAL
AND
According to its potential, Bogor Station is one of the busiest station in Indonesia. Bogor Station has a responsibility to accomodates areas around Bogor, for instance Bogor City, Sentul, Puncak, Ciomas, etc. Because of that fact, Bogor Station has a high level of crowd everyday.
LOCATION
In this competition, we think to create a parking building that can also solving many problems around the site by design a space that can accomodates kinds of activities that are in the site. The theme in this competition is park and joy, a parking build is not just to accomodates cars and other vehicle, but can be accomodates certain activity so it can be flexible, yet still functional as it suppose to. Due to the circumtance in the site, we create space for steet vendors to do their activity in the parking building. This is to accomodates people’s activities on the site and to reduce unwanted source of crowdiness that can cause traffic jam. We create a pool for Angkots too, so that Angkots have a parking space without disturbing the street’s flow. We designed the parking space to be something perform like an urban catalyst. Parking building that can function as to accomodates parking space but also triggers development around it. We known that the parking building that we design is just a support building, therefore in this site, the main building is the station itself, for it to operate well, the sites must have a good traffic flow.
V. Michael Chandra | Selected Architectural Works | Vol 01 |2015-2019
56
LAYERING The building is designed to accomodates three things, car, people, and street vendors. The idea is to coat the parking area with ramps that are big enough to be use for street vendors and circulation. The purpose of the coat is to seperates car’s and people’s area, so it doesn’t cross.
POOL ANGKOT Public transport Angkot around Bogor Station is one of the reason that cause traffic jam. A street with 3 lanes become 1 lane for ciculation and the other two is for Angkot to wait. Therefore, we creates a waiting area for Angkots to park and wait. This area can accomodates 19 Angkots.
MOVING GREEN FACADE The typology of parking building or facility is prioritize to be functional, effecient, and can operates well. Usually the building itself doesn’t really stand up so much with a dull facade. So we designed the facade to have a little of life to it by using a vertical garden. The ramp outside is the center attraction, so we design to the vertical garden to all be in the ramp.
57
ROOFTOP Sometimes, people in station arrives early, get an unexpected delay, or waiting an acquaintance to pick them up. When people are waiting, they don’t have much to do, we design a rooftop in the building for people to gather, to let their minds off for a little while. People should have a little entertainment in their lives, also we want to design a parking building that can be enjoyfull for people to hang out while their waiting for their train.
ACCESSABILITY There’s a pedestrian bridge near the Bogor Station is the only access for people to cross from the other side. This bridge is making people more effeciently to cross to Bogor Station, we create an extra connection to the parking building so that its integrated directly.
ZONING The pink color from the diagram are circulation area for people. The purple is area of circulation for car. We also create a space for people to dropoff on the backside of the building, we want the frontside of the building can be access by people from the bridge and pedestrian. The goal is to make sure people and car circulation doesn’t overlap.

FACILITY ACT AS CATALYST
In urban scale, a catalyst is a something that can triggers a development around the area. A catalyst can seen as a building, a public space, even a facilty. We design this parking facility to be one of the catalyst near of Bogor Station. A parking facility not just for parking a vehicle but can become many purpose then just a parking spot. In context, it can reduce traffic jam around Bogor Station so that the station itself can operates well. It can also become a gathering space, where the rooftops can become a place to sit around, to hangout while waiting for transit. In here, we designed the facility to accomodates all of the problems near the Bogor Station, we accomodates certain activity like street vendors, a pool for public transport Angkot, and also a rooftop with many entertaiment. The purpose, is to reduce all necceserry things that slow down Bogor Station activities, and with that to triggers future development near the Bogor Station area
