CHAIRMANS CHAT Hi to you all.

Another month gone buy - and nearly another year. We have just come back from a week at Chatham Island. A very different place to visit and a lot bigger than I imagined it would be. We went with 2 hours up our sleeve, leaving home at 7.30 am for a 1.00pm take off time and arrived at the airport at 3.30 pm, there had been a bad accident

on the north bound Motorway and some ******** had shut the motorway for 5 hours. Fortunately for us, most of the people going on the tour came from south of Auckland, so Air Chatham’s held the flight, which was really good of them, as we were only part of the number of people travelling that day.

Right - on to club matters. The committee needs your help. If you wish to go on a club run or to a club event, please do not leave it to the last minute to book. For a lot of our events, we need to know the numbers taking part, or in sone cases we must achieve a minimum number of attendees to be able to hold the event. Your hard-working

committee has struggled with this problem all year. At the time of writing this we have only just reached the minimum number for the Christmas luncheon! With a membership of 360 members we have finally reached 45 attendees to pass muster to hold the Christmas Luncheon, but only because our energetic “Buzz” Editor kept sending reminder notices out.

To those who did book early thank you. To the other 330 members, don’t let your committee become discouraged and reluctant to organize events because of your lack of support. This will be my last Chairmans chat for a while, as we are off to the South Island in early January

for 2-3 months. We will be at the Christmas lunch and then at the New Years day picnic at Tuapiro Point. Donn will be taking over while we are away so please, give him your support. Regards, Chairman John

Post WWII New Zealand, many imported short-supply items were carefully rationed. This included tyres; it was necessary to apply for a permit to buy a tyre. Below is a response from the Auckland ‘District Tire & Tube Controller’. What a contrast to today's world, where we have endless options to buy any tyre of our choice.

Cleaning with out chemicals or abrasives, it is eco friendly and cost effective way compared to other methods such as media blasting or paint stripping.

It can remove light rust off delicate car/engine parts. It will easily clean a metal head gasket— previously impossible with conventional cleaning methods.

Benefits are - no harsh chemicals, no

abrasives, no expensive set up cost (as with media blasting), no loud noises during the process, no hazards as with high pressure equipment, very precise cleaning and no clean up cost! This cleaning can be done in your garage if re14

Paraprosdokians Paraprosdokians are figures of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected and is frequently humorous. (Sir Winston Churchill loved them....) 1.

Where there's a will, I want to be in it.

2. The last thing I want to do is hurt you ...but it's still on my list. 3. Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak. 4. If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

5. We never really grow up -- we only learn how to act in public. 6. War does not determine who is right, only who is left. 7. Knowledge, is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad. 8. To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism. To steal from many is research. 9. I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you. 10. In filling out an application, where it says, "In case of an emergency, notify..." I answered "a doctor." 11. Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer gut, and still think they are sexy.

12. You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice. 13. I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure. 14. To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target. 15. Going to church doesn't make you a Christian, any more than standing in a garage makes you a car. 16. You're never too old to learn something stupid. 17. I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find someone older than me. Sent in by David Joblin

Rocker Cover Racing Due to a downturn in the restoration scene with no projects heard of, there is an opportunity to keep involved by getting out in the workshop and becoming creative with a rocker cover (tappet cover) to take part in a planned mullti-club event in Early 2024. There was a fascinating display of “racers” at November Club night, however if you missed that here’s what is planned. The Tauranga Mini Owners Club and Rotorua Morris Minors Club have a head start, but the BOP VCC Club can learn from their mistakes and flog the best ideas from their efforts to create “racers” that will leave them far behind on the launch ramp. Here’s what you need to know— 1. The Competition is based on BMC A series rocker covers, of which there are some in the Parts Shed and probably many others are lying around in chap’s sheds. Any other make rocker cover that fits the dimensions will also be accepted. 2. The following maximum dimensions must be adhered to: Length 360mm; width 210mm; height 210mm weight 3.6kg; wheels 4 of maximum dia 125mm.

The finished “racer” can be adorned with “driver”, promotional stickers, logos, paintwork etc to help with performance, or lack of. The launch track has two lanes to allow heats to be run with the winner each time advancing to the next round , until a final winner is found. The Winter Boots (Anyone who has ever dressed a child will love this)

Did you hear about the teacher who was helping one of her pupils put on his boots? He asked for help and she could see why. Even with her pulling, and him pushing, the little boots still didn't want to go on. By the time they got the second boot on, she had worked up a sweat. She almost cried when the little boy said, 'Teacher, they're on the wrong feet.' She looked, and sure enough, they were. Unfortunately, it wasn't any easier pulling the boots off, than it was putting them on. She managed to keep her cool as, together, they worked to get the boots back on, this time on the correct feet. He then announced, 'These aren't my boots.' She bit her tongue, rather than get right in his face and scream, 'Why didn't you say so?' like she wanted to. Once again, she struggled to help him pull the ill-fitting boots off his little feet. No sooner had they got the boots off when he said, 'They're my brother's boots. But my Mom made me wear 'em today.' Now she didn't know if she should laugh or cry. But she mustered up what grace and courage she had left to wrestle the boots BACK onto his feet again. Helping him into his coat, she asked, 'Now, where are your mittens?'

He said, 'I stuffed 'em in the toes of my boots.' She'll be eligible for parole in three years.
