CHAIRMAN’S REPORT//
By Esther SmithSpring has arrived with a mixture of wind, warm weather and now rain, which I don’t mind as it waters all the trees we have planted. But the wind certainly made itself felt when for our September Club run we went down to Taniwha in CHB for the annual daffodil run. We met at the Hatuma café for coffee and in my case to sample their scones but alas there wasn’t a cheese version on offer. Our time at Taniwha was blustery but ok so we still went for a promenade around the daffodil plantings which were a bit sparser than previous years, however good to see the Mabin family been well supported after a few years when the event just didn’t happen. By the time we left the wind was really getting stronger I was very pleased we were in the Humber and not the Chev. Though Graham did attempt to have the sunroof open and the noise was like been behind a jet engine on steriods.
We’ve had some really great speakers recently at our club nights, and I understand September was no exception though I missed it due to a cold that made me feel very sorry for myself. Thanks to Ian for Chairing the meeting and to Paul Hughes Officer in Charge of the Taradale Fire Station for giving an informative and from what I hear very entertaining talk on a wide range of topics including how the Volunteer Fire station runs, what they did during the Cyclone and the do’s and don’ts of charging your electric batteries, phones etc. which was a timely warning for people as so many of our gadgets do have batteries and there have been several incidents locally of garage fires caused by
batteries left to charge for too long.
Both the Wednesday runs and the Sunday Club runs are all planned up until Christmas, thanks to members who have put their hands up to organise these events, our Homestead run will be in November as usual.
Art Deco 2024-Planning is well underway and the registration form will go live at the beginning of October. The planning team consists of Larry Morgan as Rally secretary looking after the registrations and Saturday morning tea, Larry will be the go to person for any queries. Paul Eager looking after the accounts and advertising. Malcolm Blair and others organising the Sunday Funday breakfast. Ian Elmsly in charge of the Thursday evening dinner. Steve Donovan looking after the Saturday Car Parade and liaison with the Art Deco trust. Myself, I will with Graham’s assistance be looking after the Friday rally and liaising with the MG feature Marque. We will be co-opting others in to help along the way and be asking for more assistance nearer the time, so watch out for that tap on your shoulder. Anyone one who wants to be part of organising this event just let Steve or I know, the people mentioned above are in place to get it underway but we always need new volunteers.
A final thanks to Alastair Chalmers for superbly organising the Hastings Blossom Parade cars and keeping us all in order. And to Graham Smith for organising a contingent of cars to visit Karamu High School for their Blossom Parade day on the Friday.

A HEAVENLY DAY OUT//
By Mary AndersonWith the title of the run “A Heavenly Day Out” we did wonder what was in store. A great turn out of 15 cars and 32 people set off on this beautiful, warm, sunny day. Firstly, to Clive and on to Haumoana. Being fairly new chums to Hawkes Bay, we just love cruising these new roads with great scenery on these VCC runs. After looping back over the Black Bridge, the instructions took us up to Te Mata Peak (was this representing the Heavenly Day Out?). A nice coffee and cake was waiting for us all to enjoy, while taking in the stunning views in every direction. There were plenty of hikers on this glorious day walking the numerous trails that spread across the landscape. Several people walking briskly beside us up the road itself. “We could have done that years ago too” my ‘boyfriend’ said. “Yes, a long time ago” I replied.
We were all given the next set of instructions before venturing down into Havelock. We
had to stop at a playground and identify the 12 items we had on our sheet. A prize awaited the winner or winners at lunch.
With that completed we continued to our lunch spot. This happened to be St Matthews Anglican Church in Hastings. (Now we know what the title represented!). When all were gathered we were given a great talk about this beautiful church by the Reverend David Van Oeveren and about his life. Also he had on display a very impressive range
A HEAVENLY DAY OUT//
By Mary Andersonof robes his mother had made for him with the most exquisite, colourful needlework designs. She took up quilting when David was very young and obviously had great patience and talent to do such fine, intricate designs on these robes, which he wears with pride. She also made the wall hangings which were also on display. I just loved the amazing stained glass windows throughout this church, and with the light shining through they looked incredible. A very calming, peaceful place indeed. We all sat in the church in comfort and enjoyed another coffee with our lunch, and chatted about what a lovely day it had been.
Thanks to the organisers, Barbi and Jim. Well done on a great and memorable day indeed. Thank you both.

By John Durry Hi AllNot a lot happening over the last month, the team have been helping Derek sort out the scrap which will be going to the merchant very soon, so if you are having a cleanup don’t forget to give us a shout, we will help you sort your parts out.
A bit of interesting information has been circulating around a lot of New Zealand car clubs, if you haven’t seen it, please see the next page. This is interesting as a lot of people with older vehicles don’t use a computer, so how do they come up with these figures.
We seem to be getting a great turn out on Tuesdays, not many looking for parts but lots coming for a laugh. Until next time.
