In this months issue I have taken the opportunity to provide a photographic display of our committee members and appointments. It became evident recently that some of our members are unaware of who some of our branch management team are - not able to put names to faces.
This issue remedies this - and everyone of the members on pages 6 and 7 are all very willing to listen and put forward your ideas, thoughts (or gripes) for discussion or otherwise.
Whilst talking about members we need to thank Kerrin Mazey for offering to “have a go” at the Swapmeet Website management and to also thank John (and Lesley) Barker for also taking on the role of Treasurer on top of John’s Secretary Role. Many thanks
It would be great if we could have a couple more people offer to help on the committee - even temporarily as we have yet to fill Gordons position and most of you will be aware that Leigh Joblin has started his chemo treatment and both he and Maureen will as Van Morrision says in one of his songs “ There will be days like this”
Both Maureen and Leigh have contributed so much to our club it would be great if a couple of you would consider chipping in to help on the committee for a while.
Kind Regards Ray

Hi everyone,
This report might be a bit brief as my computer has gone to the Doctors so my phone is standing in for me to write on.
I have various things to report from the Aug Nat AGM but they can wait till I'm on the computer again .
Your Committee has spent a bit of time going over the new draft National Constitution which we have now approved and returned to Christchurch. All Branches will be doing this prior to upgrading our own Constitutions shortly, in line with the National document.
A big thnx to all the organizers of our recent 60th Anniversary luncheon and our Daffodil Day Cancer fundraiser. My special thnx to our small Club Captains team, Maureen, Dianne and the ever reliable Rob for their huge efforts on your behalf!
We must have a strong Club Captain's Team and sadly ours, that started the year so strongly, has been weakened in several ways. Reluctantly we recently accepted Jenny's resignation when she moved away and very sadly we lost Gordon more recently, which left big shoes to fill! We have been lucky that Dianne jumped aboard to help Maureen and long time past CC, Rob has come back TEMORARILY to carry us through.
I say temporarily because Rob and Karen have a life to lead outside the Club and both have committed to help Ray with the VERO RALLY in 2026, so we need one or two more people on the Club Capt's team now! PLEASE... this is not at the 2025 AGM.... sorry this is NOW, Please can you come on board to keep your Club, the Club with lots to do for all! I am waiting by my phone now... 027 223 4893, thnx!
With so many activities happening within our Branch, and in our neighboring Branches, clashes of events will sometimes occur. We try to avoid these ,as we can, but when they do occur we need to follow our heart, support the event that is dearest to us and always remain positive and enjoy!

I'm sorry that during my 3 weeks sojourn South I will miss several Branch activities, including the grass kana at Lloyd's and after I return the Biennial in Blenheim. I know others have a ride on lawnmower marathon fundraiser through the Molesworth that weekend, too..and we must support our first calling first!.
We must also support Malborough Branch with the Biennial, too... they always support us... so please if you are free on Sat 19th October, please support them. Entry forms are on line or on the Club rooms table.
Maureen's Campover weekend on 15th - 17th November sounds fun.... like the old days, and I'll be hitching on my caravan and heading to the mystery camp 30 mins from Richmond!
Talking of those Old Days, when you read this I will be in Dunedin taking part in the 50th Anniversary of the Otago Classic Motoring Club (originally the NZ Post Vintage Car Club) that I was part of when it kicked off in 1974.
The highlights of those days were the regular campouts and weekend tours that we took part in.... everyone was younger then, most had young families, and the majority seemed to run 36 - 39 Chevs! (Too modern for the VCC they said then, so we formed the alternative NZPVCC!)
On my return North I'll no doubt see a few of you at the Canty Br Swap Meet on 11th - 13th Oct.
Our Swap Meet, and main fundraiser for the Branch, will be happening on Sat 8th March 2025. Lloyd and Malcolm are coordinating this BUT they will need your support or there won't be a Swap Meet! Thnx to three folk who added their names to the helpers list at the last Morning tea, but PLEASE, more members are required! Please let Lloyd Ewing know, now!
Speedway parking administration is another great fund raiser for the Club. We are needed on several occasions this season and the first is Fireworks night Sat 2nd November. We don't yet have a coordinator for this night yet... Can u be part of a team of at least 10 Please!! Let a committee member know... thnx!
What's happening over the summer... yes it is ordered!
A and P Shows are something some folk like to support...
GOLDEN BAY's is in Sat 18th Jan, ( some of us make a weekend of it!) MURCHISONS is on Sat 15th Feb (which once again clashes with the Moutere Hop weekend) and RAI VALLIES is usually early in March.
We need a coordinator Please, for our Club display at the Moutere Hop .....plenty af vehicles parked up and a common theme will win us a cash prize...... we only missed out previously because we didn't have enough members displaying!
Shane Kemp and his team really supported our Cancer Appeal, bringing nearly 100 vehicles over.... please support their 2025 Moutere Hop, thnx!
Finally, the VCC WINGS, NELSON, window decals have finally arrived...if you ordered one they will be at the next morning tea. Spares are available... please display these proudly on your vehicle to show you are a VCC Member from NELSON!
Safe and happy Motoring

Grasskhana
Saturday 5th October - Quail Valley
Briefing at 9.30am followed by start at 10.00am
Lunch BYO - 30mins between 12.00 - 1.00pm
Finish approx. 3.00pm with afternoon tea
This event is becoming more common amongst Branches of the VCC, this involves both driving skills and the ability to time your run.
You will start with a briefing and the requirement to sign an Indemnity form that will be provided to you on the day.
This is a test of driving skills rather than a race, you complete the courses (an example on the left) having been shown the diagram, as fast or slow as you are comfortable with, this is timed and recorded by the marshals.
The rest of the entrants do the same then you do the run for the second time trying to match the time.
There are no prizes for the fastest, as safety and respect for your vehicle is the most important thing. Depending on the number of entries we will try to have 5-6 different courses for the day.
Each car will be given a number and you will run in order of these numbers to make it easier for the judges to keep the timing record.
The course is started with the front wheels behind the line of the start/finish cones (cones are the small circles on the diagram) and finish with the finish line between front and rear axles. This event is open to all VCC eligible vehicles and is a good chance for Trials car to get an additional outing for the year.
Looking forward to seeing both competitors and spectators on the day.

Club Run / Come Camping Weekend
Come and enjoy a back to basics Mystery weekend away or if camping is not you a day trip/ trips only half an hour from Richmond but a lovely out of the way destination which is highly unlikely you have been to and it’s on our door step.
Plenty of parking for bikes, cars, caravans or motorhomes.
The building has a couple of bunkrooms, plenty of covered deck areas, kitchen area with only sinks, no range or cooking facilities inside. A day room with large firebox. Outside cooking over a fire and Bar-B-Q plate. Outside toilets and river.
This is a BYO almost everything weekend e.g. food, portable cookers, all drinking water needs to be boiled, sleeping bags, camp chairs etc etc $10 a day per person, which goes to Scouting Nelson, who own the facilities.
Acting Club Captains Report
August 24/25 Daffodil Show and Shine
Thank you to the team who helped set up on Saturday. Also to the many helpers on Sunday, we were so lucky with the weather. Thank you to the many raffle sellers, they keep the event in the black in case we have a problem.
We/I am very happy with the huge turn out and it was wonderful working in with Shane Kemp and the Moutere Hop team.
I hope we have someone able to take up the organisation for 2025 please ring ASAP if you can.
September 4 Morning tea
Thank you to the now regular 50 or so members attending these events. It’s great to see you all having a chat and a laugh. It’s a good time to give out a few messages as long as you don’t get too many. Lovely to see ladies as well. Many thanks to the boys in the kitchen. Please add your name to the kitchen helper’s list and have a turn.
September 4 Lunch run
Thank you so much to Carolyn and John for organising this event its great to have members putting their hands up and organising these events. We had approximately 20 at lunch after a nice tour around to get to the final destination. If you want to know were we went, come on the next one. I feel a neat thing to do is to carry on with Gordon’s wish of all cars going on the lunch run need to be VCC eligible. If you do not have a VCC eligible going les us know so you can hitch a ride with someone.
September 5 Ernest Rutherford Resort VCC car display.
Thank you to our members who were able to make this event. We were given short notice; the number attending was much much better than my list had indicated. This was a pretty casual event and a good chance to chill and have a chat with fellow members and residents of the resort.
September 6
Thank you to the team who were able to get the car seesaw/balance test up onto Pauls trailer and shifted to Lloyd and Gwen’s property. We had been asked to move it by Speedway Alistair. Unfortunately both tyres had been knifed which made the job even harder. Now there’s a we job for someone if you have a couple of tyres that could be used to make the sea saw more moveable.
September 14 drive in movie
Around 25 people came along to the movie night & we watched Planes, Trains & Automobiles, a bit of humour & enough vehicles to keep everyone happy. The big screen at the club rooms is a great asset to our club, we can pretty much watch anything we want now.
Many Thanks to Dianne Lewis & Lesley Barker for the ice cream sundaes & chocolate slice to finish the night off.

September 18 morning tea
Once again a good turnout of around 50 people attended
September 28 working bee/Spring clean
Extra bits
Our biscuit account is creeping up because of the on going and building popularity of biscuit munchers so if you could spare a gold coin when partaking in this event, thank you from the committee.
Your Club needs you.
Our Club event organisers are spread very thinly and the spread it getting thinner with a number of members doing hours and hours behind the scene on organisation for the 2026 international rally. So please if you could help out by organising a club run or club night visit or two please do not hold back. Give us a call ASAP to find out what dates need filling for our normal club activities on our club calendar and give it a go. Better still how about coming on the committee.
Coming up we have been given first option from Speedway Alistair to do car parking for the fireworks night. Last year we earned $1500.00 in one night for the club coffers. There are two other 2-day speedway events we have first dibs on as well. We have a clipboard in the Clubrooms with all 3 events on it. Please add your names.
If you would like to co-ordinate these please ring ASAP.
All the best Rob, Dianne & Maureen
