Chairmans Chatter for Topical Torque

Chairman's Chatter

Hello Folks

We had a very good attendance at the Branch AGM held last month. There were over 40 members in attendance and the business was conducted with all in agreement.

We were surprised to receive 9 nominations for the 3 positions of committee which shows that our branch is in good stead and while it would have been great to have all persons nominated to a position, I am sure that they will help when they can. I would like to thank most sincerely everyone that stood and also my grateful thanks to Grant Bishop and Mark Masters and Ian Wilford for their help and input over the last year in their positions on committee.

It’s a big welcome back to John Muter who stood to for full the Club Captains position as we had not been able to fill the role over the last two or three years. John will bring his experience and knowledge to this role and will keep our events and social outings up to date.

I am very pleased to welcome Brian Evans who has been coopted on to committee to understudy the Club Captains role with a view to take on this role into the future.

Again, Rob Thomson has taken on the task of Secretary/Treasurer which is a huge amount of work for one person and it is hoped that we will have members coming through to make themselves available in the future for the executive positions of our branch.

Our Branch has been contacted by the VCC Central Hawkes Bay Branch who are organizing a Taranaki Tour to come through in October. They will be touring around the province with a visit to our club rooms and other Taranaki attractions over a four- day period. We will be hosting them at the clubrooms.

The Maunga Moana 60th Rally celebrations have been confirmed at the recent committee meeting and Rob Thomson has been appointed Rally Secretary and Myself and Alexander Johnston have been appointed Rally Organizers. We will be promoting this rally from now on and seeking to keep costs as low as we can. For this rally we will be giving as many Taranaki entrants as possible, that are able to rally, an opportunity to do so.

Alexander Johnston who is our youngest member of this branch has taken over as Facebook administrator of our branch Facebook page and has already put our events on to this modern way of contact. In his report to the committee, it was noted that the post about the attendance at the Highland Fling Rally in Feilding had 48 likes and 13 comments and 1 share within around 48 hours. A post about the Midweek run attracted 17 likes in a short period of time. It’s a very good way of communicating our activities and will promote our branch.

A discussion was held at our committee meeting regarding the Taranaki Membership List of addresses and vehicles owned. It is my belief that a list should be available to members for those members who wish to have their details listed for members use. For members who do not want their details shared would Not be on the list. In years gone by this membership list has been very useful to contact another member with your query. We will be circulating our branch membership to gather your thoughts and recommendations very shortly and can assure members that we are very mindful and would be adhering to the provisions of the Privacy act.

That's all from me for this chatter.................Safe Travels............Get Out and About and keep to the Left...................Some interesting events coming up.............

Cheers. Chairman Colin.

EDITORS REPORT

Hello Folks, here we are middle of winter, and it’s a sunny day, what’s going on?

Hope the god weather lasts till end of month for our trip up to the Mountain house, fingers crossed. You will see in this month’s mag that we have got some new faces and some familiar ones elected onto committee at our A G M in May. John is back as Club Captain and his report will keep you up to date with upcoming events.

I hope that the next twelve months will be kind to you all and look forward to seeing you at one of our Branch outings soon, remember that it is your club and it is only as good as we make it. Our Facebook page is up and running again, so if you have any items that may be of interest, get them to Alexander so that we can all share in what interesting thing you have been up to.

Happy motoring, Jim Logan, Ed itor.

CLUB CAPTAINS REPORT

After a few years break from the Club Captains position I am back again to plan some events for you to enjoy over the next twelve months. I will try to plan events alternating between North and South Taranaki where possible.

I am open to suggestions for future runs, or guest speakers for club nights. I would also welcome suggestions that would appeal to Ladies of the Branch.

I would also like to welcome a new member, John Thomason from New Plymouth who owns a Series One Land Rover, I hope you may enjoy many events with our Branch in the future.

June 20th At our club night this month our guest speaker will be Mike Coil, who owns a museum in Eltham Mike will be showing some items from his collection for us to identify, including some that would have been used in households in years gone by. We will also pay Mike’s Museum a visit later in August.

June 30th Our End of Rego run to the Stratford Mountain House, I have received a lot of interest in this event, numbers are now fully subscribed. If there are any members that would still like to attend, please contact me and I will put you on standby in case of any last-minute cancelations.

Northern members could meet at the Inglewood Railway Station, leaving at 11-15am.

Southern members could meet at Stratford Railway Station, leaving at 11.30am.

Don’t forget your walking shoes, if the weather is acceptable, we could drive up to the upper car park and take a short walk to view the newly constructed suspension bridge over the Mangonui Gorge.

Sunday 28th July We are planning a visit to Peter and Angela Georges home to view their collection of Traction Engines, including a Stanly Steamer. We may also visit another place of interest, time permitting, the Morris Minor Club members will join us as well.
