CHAIRMANS REPORT

Hi Guy's

Thank you to Steve for Chairing the last meeting & Peter for acting secretary. Barry and I escaped on our motorbikes with 6 others, managed to go as far as Dannevirke and return. We had an awesome time very lucky with the weather fine all the way. Then back to reality to having our Nifty Fifty run held on the 24th of February.

Eight riders attended, One from Lawrence and another from Ashburton. After a shower of rain we hit the road, a very enjoyable run only to return to a great BBQ. Well done Trevor & Suzanne. Also thanks to Peter Bootsma for coming to the club rooms first thing to make sure everything was in order. Thank you to Steve for being our back up driver no pick ups. Last but not least thanks to Barry once again for helping to organise the run. There might have been only eight

Who is going to come up with our next club run. Bring your suggestions to the next meeting and let's make it happen. That's all I have for you this month. See you at the next meeting on the 21st March at 7.30pm.

Cheers Owen

2024 Wallaby Rally

The 2024 Wallaby attracted 31 entries, down on previous years, but those attending had an enjoyable rally I am sure.

The long route had a mixture of sealed and gravel roads which were quite dusty due to the dry period we are going through. With a mixture of flat and hilly roads and some good views over the country side it had a bit to keep every one on their toes following the route.

The short route was a more of a flat land route winding through Morven and Glenavy ending going through Waikakahi Valley Road which gave the entrants a bit more of a work out for their cars.

We ended up at the McCulloch Bridge Reserve which turned out to be great venue for lunch, with plenty of shade and even better toilet facilities.

Thanks to every one helping on the Rally, Suzanne and Peter time keeping, Trevor and John field tests and everyone helping in the Kitchen and especially to the organizer of the Rally which just happened to be the editor of the magazine.

If I was allowed to only keep one thing out of my collection it would be the Bantam.

I just feel sorry for the seat dealing with my butt for 40 years.

Specs

Fuel Consumption 100mpg

1952 BSA Bantam Model D2 (125cc)

1952 BSA Bantam fitted with Lucas Coil ignition

I have owned this bike for 40 years . It was purchased in running order (just) when I went to buy a motor for my 1958 Bantam.

At this stage I was still at school and spent many a lunch time sanding parts etc. The engine was fully reconditioned and the paint done in the back yard with a vacuum cleaner in lacquer, it has never had a full polish.

So it was ready for my license test and then pressed into every day transport. As time went one and I found myself unable to keep up on club runs the Bantam was semi retired and a BSA Goldflash took over.

I have ridden it Greymouth from Christchurch, Left home at around 2.30 in the afternoon intending to go to Arthurs Pass but could not get fuel so carried onto Greymouth, fueled up had a pie and rode back in the dark home. Got home about 1.30am and was not very popular.

Apart from the odd fuel blockage( the jets etc. are very small it has never let me down

2024 Nifty 50 Scooter Run

A small field joined us for our second Nifty Fifty Run

The chairman Owen set the tone for the run first by having difficulties starting his scooter then getting lost on the run resulting in taking a short cut, he did catch up with rest of the riders in the end.

There was a mixture of roads from flat long roads to windy roads and in the end a bit of gravel which thankfully to a bit of rain was not to dusty.

Following the run we had a barb-que lunch using the new club Gas bar-b-que.

Thanks to Suzanne and Trevor for the lunch and Steve with the back up vehicle.

Next year we looking at longer route for the run up to and across Benmore Dam
