From Head Office…

New forms relating to VIC/DOMAS applications, Lighting Endorsements and Change of Ownership have been uploaded to the National Club website. There is now only one VIC/DOMAS application form for all members/nonmembers/overseas member or nonmember. This also incorporates a lighting endorsement section. There is a separate lighting endorsement application which only needs to be completed if a VIC or DOMAS has previously been issued without a lighting endorsement. The Guidelines for Period Specials and Modified Production Vehicles has also been updated and loaded on the Club website. These documents can found at: VIC - Vehicle Identity Card - Vintage Car Club of New Zealand Vintage Car Club of New Zealand (vcc.org.nz)

From the Chair… Following our decision at the last meeting to meet on Saturdays all year round, this month we see the first clash of events, with our November meeting coinciding with the Hot Rod Club Wheels of Mayhem event in Kaitaia. I am wondering if I can squeeze both events into one day. This is an unfortunate consequence of the decision but hopefully will not occur too often. I feel it is still worthwhile to reduce night driving to evening meetings. I was very sorry to hear of Mike Pooley’s resignation from the Club. He has been a keen and prominent member since before I transferred to the Far North and he qualifies for his 35 year award.

British Car Museum A reminder about the email sent to you earlier about these cars… They will be available to buy direct from the owner only until the end of November, at which time the sales will be taken over by Turners. Many thanks, Bruce McKechnie. (Member Hawkes Bay No. 08/01734). Many thanks, Mike for the wonderful years of time, energy and commitment you have given to our club. The Dunny Run was most enjoyable, with a good turnout from both branches. Last time I went on a Dunny Run in this area I got well and truly lost (with a few others!) but this time passing through Kaikohe was intentional.

It was a surprise passing through Kawakawa at the finish to see Rosco heading the other way on his new Can-Am three-wheeler, where he did a quick U-turn to join us at the finish. Brian Walker had no navigator, so relied on following the Deveralls, but after stopping for fuel (V8s are thirsty!) missed them at their parking spot and continued straight to the finish – where he was first and went straight home. This earned him the “seat of honour”.

Northern Club Captain’s Report We had a hardy group at the Car Boot sale. Many thanks to you all who helped so much on the day.

As it will be our turn to organise the run next year perhaps he can come up with a route he can remember? The Northland Branch Far North Tour is on November 4 th. Entries have now closed but I hope some of our branch have entered. Cheers. Keith.

If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?

Although numbers were low, we gained two new members and made good sales.

Lawrence J. Peter

Everything was fine and we were done and dusted before the rain set in. Another enjoyable social gathering.

The Dunny Run was a great success, thanks to the Whangarei organisers. We had 11 Far North members attending and 12 from Whangarei.

The year is fast drawing to a close, but we have plenty more club activities to come. Meanwhile, Tom and I will be on holiday for a couple of weeks. See you all on the 11th of Nov. Marg

Omnium gatherum… Thinking of all Members who manage health challenges, every day.

The weather was perfect too. Many of us hadn’t been on some of these back roads around Kaikohe and Moerewa.

It was quite a change to have dust instead of mud, on the gravel roads. Tom and I missed our special ‘navigator’ Judy.

Judy passed away 8th Oct and she would have been very proud of our navigational skills on this run. Vintage Car Club of New Zealand

Caffeine & Classics The October meet was enjoyed with everyone attending, receiving a Repco spot prize.

For Sale….

Greetings from the South… Kind regards to all from Margaret & Graeme.

A few photos were taken recently from a reasonably busy and interesting time down here.

We visited the Highlands Park Racetrack complex and spent time enjoying the great display of cars and vehicles on display. The visit also included 2 laps of the racetrack in one of the Highlands Park Porsche Cayenne “Taxis" governed to 180kph on the strait. An amazing experience. The acceleration, braking and cornering at speed, is something to be experienced. This is a "must-see" complex if you are visiting down near Wanaka.

The Amberly Lions Club organised a Fundraiser car show for 4 local charities which on the day saw approximately 800 show vehicles pass through the gates. With some fine days at the weekends, there are more classic and vintage cars coming out and driving the roads around the district and gatherings taking place. Recently at the Rangiora A & P show were 12 steam Traction Engines and a miniature on display and the early Lagonda car.

Are the steamers the heavy transport tractors of the future? All were presented in showroom condition. Best wishes for your coming rallies and happy motoring.
