Chairman’s Report May 2017 We are coming to the end of another financial year with the AGM in June. It’s hard not to touch on the years activities however I will cover that in the Chairman’s Annual Report. What I would like to see is a good number of members turning up for the AGM With the fear of sounding like a cracked record you only get out as much as you put in. We are looking for a new treasurer a job that Lindsay has been so capable. I am sure that Lindsay will assist any member into the role. The Golden Times Rally has been and gone for another. A total of 52 cars the oldest at 1900 ranging through to 1978. A first since I have been organising the rally with Trevor Charmers on the Norton. As you are all aware there was a restriction on the number of cars in the Autumn Festival Parade to 20. This was sorted by the first 20 entries wishing to go in the parade. So if you want to go in the parade get your entry form early next year. I hope everyone enjoyed the day the interaction with the public in the Main Street before leaving on the rally was a highlight for me. I gave out lollies to the kids (asked first) and the feedback and questions where all positive. May be worth exploring the same format for the Blossom Festival Rally. Congratulations to Murray on winning the rally in his Humber 10. Thanks to Kevin, Maureen, and Greg for all your help. As all the members who come along to the monthly meetings I will be away for the AGM. Gill and I are off on a biking trip in Europe. The dates clashed once again but there is a group of us going so the date couldn’t be changed. The motivation to get out on the bike and burn up a few Kms hasn’t done any harm. As the weeks have passed the body is feeling better, up two gears on the hills since first starting. Perhaps we should all be looking under our health and safety policy all getting out on the bike, food for thought for future rally???? I will be passing on my annual report to Murray for the AGM Will be back on the 12th July. On a technical aspect remember the frosts are on their way. Drain that water or top up the anti-freeze levels. Keep the wheels turning Bill Crooks

SUNDAY RUNS and other Events; Next meeting Wednesday 14th JUNE AGM To date there have been no suggestions for the June Sunday run, and while there is a small sub-committee to organise this it does require some input from our members ! The National day is set for the 27th August 2018 and will be coordinated by a central team somewhere around Hawkes Bay. I think the Cancer Society are doing the logo and there will be a template of what all branches should be doing, a standard charge of $10.00 per vehicle whether public or club will all go to the Cancer Society. Time is of the essence as there is only a short lead time. If maybe you could put this in your blog or do you think it should go through the branch first? Certainly there needs to be a front man or woman asap, someone that can be contacted by the coordinators.

Register your interest with me. Graham Taylor. If you have an idea or suggestion for a Sunday run or otherwise, Please contact me and I will forward on for consideration.

The AGM or annual general meeting is to be held at the clubrooms WEDNESDAY 14th June 2017 That’s it guys , your chance to have some input in to the way the club is to function for the next 12 months, there has been a lot of discussion over the last year on how to make thins better. I had some really good assistance from Lynne Yeaman who has been taking those good photos and arund 150 of you get to see them in colour. And Tracy & Alon Mayhew who posted the print copies out now done by Greg Doran. As we (I) have been having trouble with the Xtra change over and overloading before that I have now at some effort created two email lists ( and on reflection it took about the same time as removing tree doors off my next project) My no 2 list has around 50 people on it and I asked those folk to reply so that I would know it was working , thank you to the FIFTEEN who did . The total of the two lists is 150 and that includes members of other branches who like to know what’ s up in Central Otago. There is also another unofficial list that goes out to around 30 people keeping folk up with topical and branch news ( One Nelson member purchased that Morris Minor convertible that was advertised). Getting back to the AGM we need a Club Captain to oversee the events etc and work with a small team to plan them. And a Treasurer Lindsay Olsen kindly stepped up but has other priorities now he has taken the time to get the system up to the latest reporting specs and is willing to assist a new person to this role . That is not limited to these two positions either if you are tired of my repeated attempts to create some interest and not make mistakes then Have a go yourself , it all fun at the AGM! John and Jonny stepped up to help plan events Sunday Runs etc but they need some input, surely there are places you would like to visit, you can e-mail your suggestions to me. ED

Vintage Cars through the decades from 1900
11
I was looking through my picture files for a representation of Vintage vehicles through the decades for promotional material and found plenty of options except for the 1940’s and 1980’s so I will keep this page running and see what we can come up with, photos that suit the puff n stuff are not really suitable for a representation of the decades or types for that matter, and when trolling through a selection of phots it makes one realise just what a great variety of vehicles we have in our branch and the VCC at large. Every vehicle on these pages has a story to tell . For instance the 1900 Wolseley has been on the go for my living memory and Neil and Doris McVicar from the Gore Branch who have attended rallies and club events from as long as I have been associated with the VCC . The Cadillac, Fiat, Fords Model A,& V8, Austin A40 , Chevrolet Bel Air, Lively MG 1100, To the Datsun 1200 which was a trailblazer of a different kind, smart, reliable and economical fun. The Toyota Landcruiser which from the 1960’s redefined the worlds 4x4 market as the best all round workhorse (not that I wanted to believe it in the late 60’s, when a friend who worked at Mt Hagen in New Guinea said one could stick the B….. Landrovers! ) The Toyota was here to stay, we still have our BJ45 bought new at the Wanaka Show in 1982.

The Good Wife A Husband lies dying, his wife is by his bedside ... He says in a weak voice “there is something I must confess”. "Shhhh” said the wife, “ there is nothing to confess. Everything is all right. “No” the husband replied “ I must die in peace. I had sex with your sister, your best friend, her best friend and your best friends mum!” “I know,” she whispered, “That's why I poisoned you. Now close your eyes”.
