Chairmans report Well another calendar year has nearly gone and the NVCC year is halfway thru Quite a bit has been done to the Clubs buildings. Parts shed have had a willing band of helpers with Lawrence Hillier guiding the sorting and storing the parts. The Clubrooms have had quite a bit done by a willing band of helpers, many thanks to you all. The toilets have been upgraded and the storeroom cleaned out and the area is being tidied up. The Saturday 17th Christmas event went well and was very enjoyable; there were some steady hands at work! You have a very good committee and I thank the members and their partners for all their work and taking my phone calls and emails. The New Year is shaping up to be a busy time and several club members have offered to host events which helps the committee a lot, thank you. The 31st New Year’s event will follow the 17th event food wise as owing to unforeseen events the lamb spit had to be cancelled. More on this event later Marion and I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a productive new year. Sincerely Keith

Motorcycle report This month’s run saw 11 bikes line up at the start with two other vehicles. It was decided to go over Mt Tiger and out onto the Ngunguru Road, do a circuit of the Kaiatea road and back through Tutukaka and Ngunguru finally stopping at Kamo. That was the idea at least! We lost two bikes early on with Gwyn following one of the two cars which decided to take a short cut to the Ngunguru Road through Abbey Caves Road. Roger decided he’d got on the wrong bike today and chose one with a faulty fuel gauge, on reaching Parua Bay he thought he’d better retreat for some fuel or else he wouldn’t be going anywhere and hence called it a day. Gwyn and Robert caught us up at Whareora road after Robert had detoured to pick up a pillion rider and we headed out toward Ngunguru. It was just going to be one of those days. The pack got split up at the Kaiatea Road intersection some going one way and others going the other. Some returned via Hikurangi while others returned via Glenbervie. Eventually everyone except Roger finally made their way to the finish for a thirst quencher and to mull over what had gone wrong. It again reinforces the need to always keep the rider behind you in sight by either slowing down or stopping to see what’s wrong. Luckily no one broke down. At least the weather had been kind to us with little wind and plenty of warmth. It was decided that next month’s ride would be delayed until the second Sunday (8th) with a start time of 11am. Mangawhai being the destination for lunch. We'll meet at Frings at 11.00am and hopefully have lunch at the Mangawhai Pub. To that end can I have an idea of numbers so we can put in a tentative booking please. Because the first Sunday falls on new years day we'll delay the run until Sunday the 8th of January. Drive safely over Xmas and have a good break. Lofty

Dargaville Doings Far north tour 5th November 3 Cars from Dargaville side the Grant’s, Jeffery's and Dawes went on the Tour. We went to places that I haven't been before like Monument Road then to Kawakawa Primary school for morning tea, a good spread. The School Kapa Haka Group entertained us. We passed through Moerewa, Ohaeawai. Just to name a few roads that we went to the Showgrounds Rd, Wiroa Rd, Kerikeri Rd. We had lunch at the RSA. Then I had to go back home, so the rest carried on. They made their way to Pungaere Road ending up a Taipa, I would like to thank Lyn and Donna for all the hard work for putting on a great event Mid-week run 16th November 14 Cars went over towards Whangarei to meet up with Whangarei members. At Otuhi Rd metal dump before heading down Otuhi Rd into Codlin and left into Tangihua Rd and right onto O'Carroll Rd to number 13. The place of Linda and Lester Appleton. We had a guided tour of 13 aces of avocados then went back to the new big shed, Lester give us a talk about his two Rileys’ and a bit about his trip away and what happened at the airport. Lester gave us some avocado’s to take home. So thanks to Lester and Linda for having us. Dunny Run 19th November Grant’s, Jeffery’s, and Dawes headed up to Kawakawa Domain meeting with the Far north club and some members from Whangarei. We had 14 silent checks and 12 photos to number as we saw them. The journey took us through Kawakawa Township; the train was going though the town which was a great to see. Went to Moereawa into Otiria Road. Stopped at a place to look at some mud block buildings and a talk about how they made them. Then on to Ngapipito Rd and follow the bike trail that took as to Mangakahia Road back to Kaikohe and then to Ohaeawai to have lunch. We were under a tree eating lunch when Doug was going to have his cup of tea when a bird did it just miss his cup and left something on his knee. It was hot and windy so everyone got an ice cream which was running down their faces. After lunch we all went to the parking area, cones were laid out and buckets, each car had to go around and the passenger tried throwing a toilet roll into the bucket. Then the driver was blind folded and had to drive backwards only listening to the navigator. Well when it was Keith and Marion’s turn things got a bit heated so didn't get far. Gwyn missed out doing it because his car had a flatty. I tell you I haven't laughed so much. 1st Rex and Sue 2nd Ernie and Beryl 3rd Bruce and Claudia 14th December End of year meeting and a run down to Ruawai to Vallance Rd to see the great display of Christmas lights at Lindsay's place, worth going to see. Ernie

Auckland Motorcycle Rally It’s the 19th November and 4 motorcycles from the Northland branch attended the Auckland Branch Annual Motorcycle Rally. This year they started from Paul and Robyn Muir’s home Kaiaua Road, Mangatangi. (For those who don’t know it’s about 18km’s from Miranda Hot Springs) They had opened up their big shed for the Friday night dinner and together, the start and finish on Saturday with a cuppa and biscuits’. The 38 bikes were ready to go starting at 10.00am leaving one minute apart heading towards Miranda and turning up Miranda Back road climbing up with picturesque view out over the Firth of Thames. It would have been spectacular if it had of been a bright sunny day but we had a cloudy day with the odd shower of rain. We travel southwest on back country roads and then turned left with 7 miles on SH27. Turning right off SH27 towards Matamata-Piako District covering 60miles. Stopping at the Mangateparu Hall on Morrinsville road. The local school had catered a banquet for our lunch. After lunch we headed towards Tauhei to view a collection of around 60 stationary engines and a few tractors at David & Michael Norton’s. We made our way back to the Muir’s following back roads for another 57miles. The evening meal and Prize giving was at Mangatangi Hall. The Northlanders competitors were Cameron Francis, Peter Lovatt, Simon & Sylvia Clearwater and Robert and Lorraine Young. Robert & Lorraine. Three vintage cars turned up at 12.15pm for the Onerahi Parade, Martin Salter with his 1972 Jaguar XJ6, Robert and Lorraine Young dressed in period custom with their 1926 Ford Model T and Brian Clancey in his 1928 Ford model A carrying Santa.

Hello Club Members . . . . Meet new Northland Branch member, Chris Field. Welcome aboard. Chris and his wife turned up to the Christmas Barbeque in this beautiful 1954 Daimler 'Conquest'. The car came from Dunedin. A genuine 'One old lady owner', with 72,000 miles on the clock. A 2.5 litre, 6 cylinder motor spins out the horses and the Wilson Pre-selector gearbox does the rest. What a beaut. Bruce Cosson.

There has been a spate of historical vehicles stolen. It appears, now they have moved onto other collectables that are not so easy to trace. This is a plea for your help please. An unknown person entered a back yard in Bendigo, Australia and stole Texaco and Atlantic enamel signs that were bolted to the garage wall. They tried hard to get into the shed and failed. Can you please spread the word that if these come up in a Swap or for sale in any way then to please contact Senior Constable Kelly Brereton of the Bendigo Police on 03 5448 1300.
