Chairman’s Report November 2016: Despite the rain, around 15 of us enjoyed the lunch at Blossoms Café and the visit to Alan and Shaaran Price at the end of September. Besides the Vauxhall VX/490 we’re used to seeing, Alan and Shaaran have a 1930 Chevrolet roadster, a 1949 Chevrolet sedan and a 1937 Chevrolet Pick Up. Alan also has a collection of motorcycles including a Douglas, Sun, and Matchless, and a later model BSA. Alan’s veteran Clement Bayard restoration is well on the way. Alan’s skills are evident in the work undertaken so far on this project. A week in the sun in Rarotonga meant we missed the Kowhai Festival at the beginning of October but I believe the weather cleared momentarily and some 11 club vehicles provided a great display. We enjoyed John Duffy’s talk at our Club Night about the early days of Radio Hauraki. John’s one-of-a-kind experience aboard the “Tiri” is like none before or since when for just a few years these Pirates enjoyed a real adventure. John is looking forward to the 50th anniversary celebration of the launch of Radio Hauraki. Many branches are now emailing links to, or pdf versions of their monthly newsletters to other branches instead of mailing hard copies. I have been forwarding these on to members whom I think may be interested in reading what other branches are up to and checking what cars and parts they may be advertising for sale. If you would like me to add your email address to the list of those receiving newsletters from other VCC branches, please let me know. Likewise, if you are already receiving them but would rather not, I can remove you from the list. November’s Calendar of Events is rather full. It would be good to see club support for the coming shows and Christmas Parades. These are times when we can raise our profile in the community through showing our support for community events. Similarly for the gathering at Summerset Falls where many of the residents enjoy a ride around the block in one of our vehicles. Northland Branch’s Far North Tour at the beginning of the month is always an enjoyable weekend away. Last month we sought volunteers from among the membership to take on various support roles for the Winter Woollies. This month we would like to confirm the following roles: Rally Secretary, Prizes and gifts Coordinator, Billeting Coordinator, Dinner Venue/Menu Coordinator, and Sunday Activity Coordinator. Please consider taking on one of these roles and let me know before this month’s Club Committee meeting on 17 November. The “Are We There Yet?” Rally for the Mike Brown Memorial Trophy is shaping up to be a great weekend’s get together. See Denis and Sheryl’s article for further details. Happy motoring

Club Captain’s Report November 2016 Well, we have been blessed with very mixed weather! I gather the stalwarts who made the journey to Alan and Shaaron Price had an interesting visit despite the appalling weather. Fortunately we were luckier for the Kowhai festival. 11 cars of varying ages and functions attracted attention. The cafe visit to Morris & James was an enjoyable lunch at a new venue. Our first picnic is to Wenderholme RP on Nov 2nd. Our Sunday run is to Sommerset Falls on Nov 27th. Please assemble along Mansell Drive by 12.55 so we can arrive in an orderly fashion at 1.00. The Home is putting on a BBQ for us and the residents at about 2.30 after our drives with passengers. I know the wedding didn’t go quite as we would have expected, but I hope we will not let the residents down. I understand the residents are pleased we are coming, and also that the bar will be open! The Santa parade season is also upon us; The Wellsford Parade is part of the Country Show on Nov 19th starting at 9.00 in the Show Ground. The Warkworth Parade is on Nov 26th; assemble in Alnwick St by 12.15, for the parade at 1.00. 2 laps round via Neville St, Queen St, and Mill Lane, finishing back in Alnwick St. Prize giving for the floats will be at Lucy Moore Park at 2.00 if you wish to stay. We have been contacted by the Auckland Euro & Brit Classic car Show, (this will be its 2nd year) Asking if we wish to register for a space for our club. It is on March 5th at Lloyd Elsmore Park, Pakuranga. If there is a group who would like to display their cars, let me know numbers by Dec 1st and I will register you. (No replies will mean no registration!) Finally a reminder about items for our stall at the A&P Show, please bring them in. If you can’t get to the club when it is open, let me know so that we can arrange something. We do need items before the day so they can be priced, and we know how much we have to sell. All the Best for Happy, Safe Motoring, Anne.

SAVE THE DATE:

‘ARE WE THERE YET’ RALLY 18/19 MARCH 2017

Preparation is underway for the 2017 ‘Are We There Yet Rally’. In keeping with the name, we propose to make this a destination event suitable for all entrants and will not require any navigational skills – no one will get lost! But because this event has a trophy we must have a winner. Each entrant will be provided with a score sheet to complete if they choose to compete for the trophy. It has been decided that as a trial this year we will extend the event to 2 days with an overnight stop including dinner and prize giving in Waipu Cove.

The Saturday will commence at Wellsford making it easy for everyone to gather at the start. We propose a couple of visits on the Saturday including a picnic at one property which will require you to BYO everything, including a gold coin donation. An entry fee for another stop will be included in the modest, yet to be confirmed entry fee on the registration form which will be published in the November and following newsletters. Saturday night will be a dinner in the Cove Café – the local restaurant and bar at Waipu Cove which is opposite Camp Waipu Cove.

Overnight at Waipu Cove in accommodation of your choice – I have attached prices. Sunday – breakfast at your leisure either at accommodation or in one of the local Waipu Village Cafés. Depart Waipu app 10.00 for the last stop – a shed raid and late morning tea and then depart for home. As accommodation is limited in Waipu Cove it would be great if you could make your reservations sooner rather than later. We stayed overnight, as part of another club group, in the cabins at the Camp Waipu Cove and found it quite adequate for the night and a great social time.

Looking forward to a great weekend. Sheryl & Denis

A group of pensioners were discussing their medical problems at the Day Centre coffee morning. 'Do you realise,' said one, 'My arm is so weak I can hardly hold this coffee cup.' 'Yes, I know.' replied the second, 'My cataracts are so bad I can't see to pour the coffee.' 'I can't turn my head,' rejoined the third, 'because of the arthritis in my neck.' 'My blood pressure pills make my dizzy,' commented the fourth, adding, 'I guess

that's the price we pay for getting old.' 'Well, it's not all bad.' piped up the first, 'We should be thankful that we can still drive.'
