CHAIRMANS REPORT

So Remember......... Keep to the Left when out driving your pride

Hello Folks.

and joy.........stay safe............KEEP the Passion..........Give a committee position ago.........Take Care.......2021 is getting closer .........it will be a big one.!.........Cheers

I hope as you read this report that you have been thinking of the future of our club as the AGM is here and we need members to step up and put themselves forward to take on a committee position to help run our club over the next year. A big thank you to those who have put their nominations in of which I can count on one hand. This seems to be the trend throughout our movement in getting members to stand for positions. Remember this is your club. As I have reported in my annual Chairman's report that I intend to stand down this year and also our club captain John wishes to stand down. I hope you have all had time to read this report and study the Treasurers report as we sent both out with the last newsletter. I have really enjoyed my time as Chairman over the last six years and I have been really pleased with the camaraderie throughout our branch that has existed, long may it continue. I am not going away but have to concentrate on the big 2021 Rally that is only 3 years and eight months away. I would really like to thank the present committee for all their support over the six years I have been Chairman you have all made my job easy and it sure has been a pleasure working with you all. Some of you have been on committee with me over the six years as well. We have achieved a lot over this time and I know our jobs are time consuming but it is the thrill of seeing the enjoyment from members that enjoy what your committee has arranged with a never ending array of interesting club events.

Chairman Colin

Midweek Run March 23rd There was a good turnout of vintage and classic cars(although we did have a modern car with a lady driver, but we wont disclose her name)Unfortunately Des couldn't attend as he had a bad cold so Phyllis took over the reins. We all met in Stratford and headed up Pembroke road to Dave Hungers "Fernbrooke Farm." He showed us his vintage Buick car his son is restoring for his wedding next year. He then took us to see his collection of vintage tractors and bulldozers. That aptly had a write up about each one, One of them was a Celtrac bulldozer which he purchased off Tiddley Cox many years ago. He also started up a big old caterpillar bulldozer which bellowed out black smoke. One of the day’s highlights was when he started up an old Villiers motor, took off the spark plug lead and attached it to a steel rod in the ground and the motor kept running. (How that works is a mystery ) then back to John and Glenys Campbell's residence on Cloten road to look at cars in various stages of restoration of which some belong to Phyllis and Des Cornwall. After that we all enjoyed afternoon tea in their shed and went our way home. A lovely day enjoyed by all. Thank you Des and Phyllis. Tiddley and Rose Cox.

This is an important position for the Branch and the job involves, collecting and archiving all our Branch records, compiling photo records of Branch events and maintaining these records in a safe and secure location Interested parties please contact Chairman Colin. What a day!!! This year the annual event, based on Stratford, took place in weather that can only be described as being ‘made for the day’. This year, I thought, why not be a bit mischievous and select a rally route a little more challenging to everyone, which at the end of the day, became a lot more challenging to myself as rally organiser, than to all the entrants. The days rally kicked off from the Stratford Showgrounds to head east through Toko, into Wawiri Road, through Huiroa and onto Kiore, up through the Tunnel and onto Matau ‘and the bowls of the earth’. From Matau on to Junction Road with about six miles of metalled road taking the rally route over the Purangi Saddle and back to civilization, sealed road, and lunch. ….The lunch stop at Tarata Hall was in brilliant weather, everybody having plenty of time to socialise and enjoy the sun. Following lunch, up and over the Tarata Saddle, then on to Ratapiko, past the lake, and onto Croydon Road through Tuna, onto Beaconsfield Road at the back of Midhirst, then heading towards Toko to return to The Forgotten Highway, back to Stratford to finish at the Showgrounds. Average speeds for the two timed sections in the morning may have been too slow for the post war and P60 group, but not one entrant complained. It may have been a different story if the weather had been adverse. Other than the moment when I had a moment of ‘melt down’ at lunch time, the day was all I hoped it would be, and more. I have said it before, and I will say it again, the success of a rally is dependent on two ingredients, a worthwhile entry, and a team assisting behind the scenes. The team of marshals and helpers I had for this event were exceptional, their contribution was absolutely faultless. I am very grateful to the following folk for their contribution to the success of the 2017 Maunga Moana Rally.
