Chairman’s Report Let’s start with last month, Club night, defered by one week due to the predicted flooding, for which we are glad we did not receive, turned out a great success. At the very last minute, well only one d a y ’ s warning, Jo Lewis agreed to c o m e down and pass on s o m e information she had on the sinking of the Titanic, or was it actually the Olympic. She deliverd her information using the 19-19 format which means you are limited to 19 slides and 19 seconds, yes seconds, per slide to deliver yor information. All was achieved and it left us with many thoughts and a few questions, thanks Jo. Quite a large number of us joined forces with the other town car clubs at the River City Park Up. This event has been taken on by The Hot Rodders and planned to be a regular event. Wanganui Branch of the VCC AGM is on the 7th June. You will find a nomination form on page 6. We, the present branch committee, are keen to involve new members with the committee and all positions are

open so nominate who you want for any of the positions. Look forward to seeing you all there. Make sure you ask them first if they are keen. Don’t forget that even if you are not Rallying on the Annual Rally you can still join us on the Saturday and Sunday evening functions, just fill in the correct section of the entry form and pass it to Linda, Rally Sec. by the 26th This month we had Brent Davis visit and give us some details of how the Retirement homes are administered and although he is linked to Somerset Village his talk was across the board. I think we were all more enlightened afterwards and the discussion continued in the tea/coffee break. You will have noticed on the calendar that we have a working bee on Sunday 21st at 1pm and we are hoping for a great turn out. We have many things to catch up on, inside and out, and these are great social occasions. Bring a contribution to afternoon tea, please.

Peter

A hotel guest calls the front desk and the clerk answers, "May I help you?" The woman says, "Yes, I'm in room 858. You need to send someone to my room immediately. I'm having an argument with my husband and he says he's going to jump out the window. The desk clerk says, "I'm sorry ma'am, but that's a personal matter. The woman replies, "Listen you idiot. The window won't open‌. that's a maintenance matter."

2017 Gymkhana Glorious weather greeted us as we arrived at Craig and Wendy Rylands’ paddock for this year’s Gymkhana. Numbers were up on last year, which is encouraging and Jim, our ever friendly and smilling club captain had set out the course. We set off, very casually I may say, with no specified route, which set a pleasant relaxed atmosphere for a very pleasant afternoon. Zig Zag, reversing into a bay, keeping the bottle off the ground whilst circling a post, travelling two wheel revolutions etc, etc...... I did hear a little muttering about modern cars, underage drivers but we are not that kind of a group are we? Well are we? Final obstacle, which had been cleverly disguised behind a parked car was to park as close as possible to a board but, yes there’s always a but, if you hit it you lose 5000 points, according to our affable man of the day Jim. (No one hit it by the way) Afternoon tea was then declared whilst Jim calculated the results. Now Jim, once again announced that in order to protect innocent individuals’ embassment he would only be announcing the top three paricipants and I totally agree with him there. 1st Mr John Bullock in his Ford Model A Ute 2nd Mr David Robinson in his Ford Model A Ute, (there’s a pattern developing here) 3rd Angus Pitkethley in his, err, I don’t know. (Don’t mention the license) Everyone else was very very close, there may only have been 10 or so points difference Massive thanks to our hosts, Craig & Wendy, a great venue!

From the desk of Jim O’Neill, Wanganui Branch Club Captain First and foremost we have the annual rally rapidly approaching and are desparately short of marshals. Please enter the rally if you can but if you are not entering volunteer for marshalling. Call me direct on 06 3444566 or on my mobile 0274447474.Second, and nearly as important, we have a Working bee planned for this month, on Sunday the 21st. We have brilliant facilities here and they need a little loving care and attention. We will combine the working bee with afternoon tea and put the world to rights at the same time. Oh, that reminds me, meet at 1pm, thanks.

2017 Annual Autumn Motorcycle Trial After some worries about the rain washing all the roads away or flooding them so much we would have to cancel the trial 8 April dawned bright and sunny. We were very grateful to a local VCC member who did a pre run on Friday to check the weather had not done any damage. The competitors began leaving the clubrooms in Wanganui East to begin the timed section at 9.30 am, on Saturday morning. The course this year took them south through backroads including the Turakina Valley winding up at Halcombe where a good lunch was had at the Halcombe Tavern. The afternoon section was untimed and saw the bikes return to the clubrooms again via back roads. There were two bikes that had to be returned on tail end Charlie's trailer but a good time was had by all. There were 36 entries with 34 starting the rally. Pre dinner drinks began at 6.00 pm again at the clubrooms followed by a scrumptious dinner provided by Doreen Hardy, Eilidh Pitkethley and Wendy Craig. Prize giving came next with the results as follows: PV First – Howard Sims PW First – Mike Dewson Second – Sam Wilson Third – Willie Wood P60V First – Warrick Laing Second – Bruce Davidson Third – Aaron Kendrick P80V First – Dave Henwood Second – Glyn Clements Classic First – Murray Andrews Second – Roger Stent Third – Allan Gudopp First Overall – Cliff Lowe Memorial Trophy – Warrick Laing Coleman Cup – Highest scoring local VCC member – Mike Dewson John Kendick Memorial Cup – Most desirable British single cylinder – Sam Wilson
