Chairman’s Report June 2017: May has been an eventful month for the branch with two Sunday runs and the AGM. Early in the month 37 of us took part in the visit to the Legge Homestead at Port Albert, organised by James and Gloria Lawrie. The homestead built in the 1870s, still houses furniture, crockery and bedding from when it was last occupied. The visit also provided an opportunity for Grant Stott to reunite his Chandler with the property it originally came to as a brand new vehicle. Legge family descendants were delighted to see the car and Grant obliged by taking several of them for a drive. Fish and Chips for lunch at the Port Albert store meant that most of us probably needed very little dinner that night. Our Pot Luck dinner club night had a good turn out and we enjoyed chatting with one another during the evening. June’s club night will be a pie dinner and is being organised by Anne Richardson. Please book with Anne if you wish to attend. The month concluded with a visit to Richard Langridge’s property at Clevedon, where he gave us a guided tour of his collection of Rolls Royce, Bentley, Alvis, Lagonda Bristol and other vehicles. We are thankful to Len Woodgate for arranging this visit, which included a stop at the Botanic Gardens and an enjoyable lunch at the Clevedon Hotel. We are grateful to Richard for the opportunity to see this amazing collection of pristine vehicles and also for the time he took to provide background to each of them. Our AGM was quite well attended. There are a few minor changes to the committee. Doug Hamilton, Dave Oliver and John Downie have stood down while, Phil and Vivien Maurice have joined. Denis Martin has taken on the role of vice-chairman and with the assistance of George Lloyd will also be Property Supervisor. Franz Edgar is taking on the role of Social Convenor. Although Jeanette Lloyd would have liked to relinquish her job as newsletter editor, she agreed to continue provided that more members would contribute reports and articles for her to publish. It would be helpful if more members could offer a report of some of our visits as the brief mention given of them by Anne and I, seldom does justice to what are well-organised, enjoyable and entertaining events. Winter Woollies Wander entries are coming in steadily. We would like assistance with serving morning tea at the Masonic Lodge on Saturday before entrants depart from the roof top carpark in Warkworth St behind the former BNZ building. Likewise, we would appreciate volunteers to man the barbecue and serve the salads and so forth for lunch on the Sunday at the clubrooms. If you can help please let Anne Richardson or me know. Happy motoring Leon

Club Captain’s Report. May has been a busy month, and more to come. We had a good turnout at Morris & James with good weather. Viv Guest had worked hard to smooth our lunch only to be thwarted by the staff, but as usual we sorted ourselves out and settled down to a convivial meal. James and Gloria Lawrie organised a really good day for us; visiting the Legge Homestead, a local fish & chip lunch, and again good weather. Thank you James & Gloria. 37 people enjoyed a look around this early home, the historic photographs of the family and the surroundings. Grant Stott brought his 1925 Chandler to show the family. It had originally been owned by family members. Our next Sunday run is also special. I hope those who are interested will have joined the visit to Richard Langridge’s many Rolls Royces. Our next Wednesday lunch is on June 7th at Sheepworld on SH1 south of the Dome Valley. We finish the month with a Shed Raid to the Power and Hamilton establishments. You will be able to see a range of interesting cars and projects! June 25th, 2.00pm onwards. Please use the parking on site to keep the road clear for local traffic. Tea/coffee will be available. July will again be Winter Woollies Wander time. Please get your entries in to Leon, or let us know if you are able to help either Saturday morning or on Sunday with the BBQ. I would like to thank Denis Martin for his help and support on the team this year. He is having a break but active in other areas of the club. John Duffy has agreed to join Frances Ross and Neil Cremer on the team. If you have comments or ideas for activities you would like to see the club running, please let us know. Happy and Safe Motoring Anne Richardson and the Team.

Name Badges: It is time we placed another order for club name badges. We offer two types of name badge; the pin and clasp type at $12.00 each and the magnetic type at $15 each. The magnetic type seem more robust and manage to hold the badge through quite thick clothing, including leather. If you would like a club name badge, please let Leon know by 15 June, either by email; brendda@xtra.co.nz, or by phone. Please provide the name you would like on your badge e.g. William or Bill and the spelling. An order will be placed on 16 June.

Club Night Thursday 13 July (Pot Luck Dinner) Puhoi Organic Distillery th

(NZ’S only Bespoke Organic Distillery) We will have Alex Kirichuk and his wife Dr Iryna visiting us for an entertaining, informative and enjoyable evening of education about (and a tasting of) their company ‘s unique products. Feel free to bring along friends and/or family. “It’s bullshit, the French saying that you should drink champagne with caviar… Vodka is the only drink to go with caviar!” So says Alex Kirichuk of Puhoi Organic Distillery.

Puhoi Organic Distillery is an offshoot of Dr Iryna Kirichuk’s herbal tonic business. Alex explains that, in his native Ukraine, herbal medicine has a very strong tradition – and that the delivery mechanism for those tonics is alcohol. “Not bad alcohol, but excellent quality alcohol like I distil here.” The medicinal philosophy of their business runs right through the product range; Alex insists his spirits are a mild form of his wife’s tonics, that they are good for you and will not cause a hangover. Hallelujah! The ideal way to appreciate the range and quality of Alex’s handiwork is a tasting session. Puhoi Organic Distillery offer : Functional Adaptogenic Beverages - both Herbal Tonics & Spirits - designed to help you withstand various stress factors. • Organically grown herbs, including Adaptogenic Herbs – the foundation for these Beverages. • Top quality Organic Alcohol – the best extractor and carrier of Natural Adaptogens is distilled on the premises using unique high-tech equipment and gravity flow. • Pristine Artesian Water – from their own 221 meter deep bore located next to the Distillery; this is the only water used for all products. All their products are boutique – handcrafted in small batches - in the picturesque Puhoi Valley and include a range of herbal and sulphur free fruit tonics; various flavoured Vodka’s, Absinthe, Grappa, Rum, Brandy, Gin and Whiskey. All of which are simply superb! “Alcohol marketing campaigns can deceive your brain, but not your liver.” Our pledge: Your liver will be definitely impressed with the quality of our products.
