Chairman’s Report February 2017: There was a great turn-out of club vehicles on both days of the 150th Warkworth A&P Show. We were pleased to have Laurie Cocker there with his 1906 Cadillac alongside Doug’s 1904 model. Thanks to those who manned the stall we ran to support the Warkworth Wellsford Hospice. A total of $372 was raised. The arrival of the veteran vehicles taking part in the Parliamentary Tour of the Winterless North 2017 created a great spectacle for show-goers. Grahame Power (1917 Studebaker), Grant Stott (1918 Westcott) and Doug Hamilton (1904 Cadillac) with their support crews represented our branch while Karl Stachel drove Len Woodgate’s 1916 Briscoe. The Tour itself was well organised and good weather almost every day allowed the participants to have an enjoyable week touring the north. At our March Club Night, our branch participants in the tour gave an informal account supported by photographs taken by Chris Harvey and Anne Hamilton. The Club Night was well attended. Inclement weather was perhaps the cause of a lower turn-out to the mid-week picnic at Scandrette’s Bay but a good number attending the Posh Picnic at George and Jeanette Lloyd’s home, most attired in period glad-rags. Joy Woodgate had certainly had Len busy polishing the silverware for the occasion. By the time Len had unpacked it all and set it up it was almost time to put it away again. Grant Stott had his wind-up gramophone and a fine selection old 78s to entertain us. Noise Control would not have been a problem with those early record players. The Swap Meet is the next significant event on our calendar. There was a good crew to help with the monthly clean-up of the clubrooms ahead of the event and once again Nigel Ross has generously sent a crew from Chemwash to clean the building and pavers. The Swap Meet roster has been re-drafted several times and will be emailed out again before the event. Our guest speaker at the March Club Night will be the Ranger from Tawharanui Regional Park. Unfortunately the “Are We There Yet?” Rally for the Mike Brown Memorial Trophy is still undersubscribed. It would be helpful to have another half dozen vehicles on the run. Although it is an over-nighter, with the finish on Saturday only being at Waipu Cove, some may like to consider just entering for the Saturday and returning home from the finish. Happy motoring
Leon

Club Captain’s Report I would like to thank all those who contributed in one way or another to the A&P Show. whether displaying your vehicle; or by donating items, pricing or selling on the Hospice stall on the day. The Hospice was very grateful, and I think we all enjoyed the fine weather, picnics or food from the stalls. I am hoping we get at least one new member as well. As usual we have lots of enthusiastic volunteers for the Swap Meet, so let’s hope the weather holds up and our hard work brings great reward. It is disappointing that we do not have any entries in the Restoration Trophy, maybe next year? I think other events overtook our members undertaking restorations this year. Looking forward, I have not received any comments or suggestions for our events this year, so we have to assume that all is well. The AGM comes up soon so there would be an opportunity then for a change? Our activity numbers have been good for most of our events. Over 25% of the membership has attended our main activities. We had 38 at the February Club Night, and 36 at the Posh Picnic. We will have another Posh Picnic next year so start looking in the Op shops now. Someone has to beat the Woodgates! The last 2 picnics have had small numbers but there were good reasons and the next venue at Sullivan’s Bay is usually popular. The following month will be at Tawharanui RP and will be the last picnic of the season. As our speaker at our club night in March is from the park it will be particularly interesting. Any ideas for venues for the winter cafes would be welcome. You will notice that we do not have a Sunday run in April. This is because there are several events that members like to go to run by other clubs: the Easter Rally in Auckland, the Swap Meet in Whangarei, and the Northern Raid. So our April run will be on May 7th, and our May run is being planned for May 28th; more on that later. The Team look forward to seeing you at the “Are We There Yet” Rally on the 18th April. This should be a really interesting couple of days, as Leon suggests, just enter for the Saturday. Happy and Safe Motoring Anne and the team.

Below a letter of recognition and thanks from Kathryn Ashworth for the donation received by Hospice from the stall at the A & P Show recently

Dear Leon and Friends of Hospice Thank you for your thinking of hospice when selling goods at the AMP Show last weekend and such beautiful weather for a family outing. The proceeds of the donations from the sales equated to $372.00 which will go towards the work of Warkworth Wellsford Hospice. With the support we receive from people such as yourselves, we are able to provide services that not only make it possible for patients to be cared for at home, but also help them and their families deal with the emotional stress that comes with a terminal illness. So we also thank you on behalf of all those families who benefit from hospice's nursing, counselling, equipment loans, social support and stress-relief therapies. Kind regards
Kathryn Ashworth General Manager

BILLETS FOR VISITORS AT THE WINTER WOOLLIES WANDER 2017 Participants in the 2016 rally really enjoyed the event but some entrants from out-of-town were very unhappy with their motel accommodation. To improve the experience for our visitors the Committee has decided to ask members if they would be prepared to billet visitors in their homes over the weekend of the event. Chris Harvey has been appointed the Billet Coordinator so please let him know how many people you can accommodate and for how many nights (Friday and/or Saturday). We would like to get this up and running early so we can advertise this option to attract those entrants who might be put off by the memory or reputation of last year’s grotty motel rooms, so please contact Chris on phone 09-422 2662 and mobile 022 365 0171 or email Chris.Harvey@westnet.com.au
Many thanks,
