We think that by not allowing others to help us we’re doing them a favor. But in fact we are denying them the joy and self worth you experience when YOU give of yourself to others. Humanity as a whole is a community. We always have, and always will, rely on each other. That’s just the way it is. It is through this camaraderie that we find trust, acceptance, love and many more things in each other. When we stand alone we isolate and push away. The more we accept, the more we have to give coming from a clean space. I’m not saying we should carry each other’s burdens. In fact I would state the opposite. Support one another and instill confidence that we all have the capacity to figure out our own journeys in life. Cranio-Sacral Therapy By Sharon Burns, MT Many people experience headaches or joint pain in conjunction with barometric changes or changes in the weather. When we understand that many joints in the body function in the same manner as a barometer, this starts to make sense. The membrane (fascia) will try to expand with a change in external or internal pressure, if that membrane is restricted in some way, pain results. Sometimes someone will feel “off balance.” Cranio-Sacral Therapy (CST) will loosen deeper structures to allow the body to feel itself again. CST uses light pressure to free up the fascia in the body so that these movements can occur without restriction. The craniosacral system is a hydraulic system in which the craniosacral fluid is encased in three layers of membranes. The membranes are designed to slide over each other to allow movement. This fluid surrounds the brain, spinal cord and nerves. If there are areas in the systems that do not move properly, the nerves will not receive the nourishment needed to function optimally. Our bodies are designed to work towards something called homeostasis or balance and health. Sometimes our bodies just need a little help. For pain, headaches and migraines along with a myriad of other issues, CST works with the fascial system to free up restrictions and create an environment in which structures can self correct. With a trigger point, when we compress we are helping the body to focus on that one point and increasing blood flow to the area. We are also influencing the body at a molecular level through mechanoreceptors. Many patients feel that if they don’t hurt after a treatment that the therapist didn’t do enough. When we do CST, we are accomplishing the same thing in a gentler way. Our conscious mind is an amazing thing but sometimes can be our worst enemy. Doubts can arise and stress can shape our thinking. We hold our bodies tight to control our emotions. This can sometimes result in a body being unable to let go of pain. The human body has the ability to heal wounds, adapt to injuries and re-adapt as it heals. It adapts to any stress mental or physical. This can help us in the short term but can cause trouble down the road. The attachment point of a tendon on bone will get a calcium build up (bone spur) if the muscle is tight. If the muscle loosens up and the fascia starts to move, that extra calcium will dissolve and the structure goes back to normal. Many people are looking for different ways to treat pain and dysfunction in the body. An exceptional member of any profession uses a combination of intuition and knowledge to guide them in what they do.

My Journey to Awakening By Marina Theron Day after day, year after year, I have attempted to better my life, myself. Every year I seemed to master the art of getting myself deeper into everything I never wanted for myself. As a child we all dream of the perfect life; the husband, kids, home, pets, enough money, and happiness. Well, at least I had the kids and pet … Frustrations built up with failed relationships, never enough money, making stupid choices over and over again and not living to my full potential as a musician. It reached a peak after yet again another abusive situation in my life. I realized that I had to start loving myself enough to avoid hurtful situations. Up to that point I had memorized the movie The Secret and felt frustrated, because I knew that there was more. I sent a friend, Lars Gustafsson an email stating that I realized the answer was to love myself. He told me he was hosting a course at the Body Mind Institute called “The Awakening Certification,” written and presented by Larry Wayne. He sent me a link to view and I immediately knew that was it. I signed up on the spot and within the first

five minutes of watching the video, I knew that I had found my answer. “The Awakening” opened a complete new way of thinking and being in my life. It helped me connect with that part of me that I always knew was hidden deep inside under all the hurt, masks, and troubles of just surviving. Every day I listened to it and learned more and more. Little by little I got rid of all those negatives; the martyrdom, anger, and feelings of not being good enough (to name but a few). I embraced true love of myself. I suddenly enjoyed being alone, and that was a whole new experience for me. I met Larry Wayne and discovered a loving and compassionate person, with a rich knowledge of spiritual wisdom that is beyond anyone I have ever met. His encouragement and gentle counseling led me closer to enlightenment. Suddenly I am reaching goals with my music and new opportunities are opening up. My biggest test came to me when I recently went to visit my family who all live in a different country. Most of my negative needs were adopted in my childhood. From the moment I met my parents at the airport, I felt nothing but love. My relationship with my siblings seemed to be on a completely new level. Things that I perceived in the past as rejection, I suddenly saw as deep love. When the negatives I grew up with manifested, I was able to be emotionally detached to the point where some of my family members asked me how I did it. Some of them commented on the glow I have and the charismatic energy around me.

The day I flew back I had the privilege to spend two precious hours with my elderly aunt at the airport. Deep thoughts were shared and her parting words to me were, “Whenever I go through a difficult time, I ask myself how Marina would handle this?” This was the biggest reward I could ever have imagined.

Freedom By Sarah Salter-Kelly As I explore the essence of freedom I ponder its conventional definition; our right to choose, democracy, justice, liberty, and the foundational basis of our Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Yet are we truly free? How many of us awaken thrilled to be alive and face the day, in awe of the miracle of life that we are a part of? Do you? Instead many feel bound by jobs, family, and obligations; believing there's a limit to the capacity in which one may know freedom, stuck in circumstances or relationships that do not nurture spirit. If each of us were willing to re-examine our definition of freedom we would see we need to feel it inside, to know it outside. Freedom is personal and universal, rooted in our consciousness, connected to our perspective and willingness to claim our power. We are responsible for our own freedom. Freedom is our beliefs, our thought process.

Freedom is how we see ourselves in relationship to the people and experiences we've had in our lives. Freedom is willingness to forgive, moving from ego to heart…cultivating peace, and taking risks to create the job or lifestyle we dream of. Those are the only prerequisites needed. Sounds easy, doesn't it? Yet these are the hardest bridges for many to cross. Perhaps it's the letting go of the familiar; we assume that what we have right now is ‘good enough,’ even when it does not bring joy. Unworthiness, self loathing, lack of confidence all influence our beliefs in whether or not we deserve freedom. And many simply have never learned the tools. Freedom's foundation is knowing that no wound or issue is so great that one must suffer for this lifetime. Nothing negates our access to freedom, aside from ourselves. I recall being told that I would have to just bear the pain of my mother’s murder for the rest of my life. I chose not to believe that, and in turn I learned how to face and heal my deepest pain. Be accountable for what is in need of healing in your life; someone you have wronged, or has wronged you, a job you don't like, your marriage, or family members you avoid dealing with. These issues cause binding with literal restraint. You are the only one who may remove the shackles. Listen to the part within that is crying out for change. IMAGINE what it would be like to FEEL free. Be aware of your breath and breathe a sense of peace into your body…Close your eyes and see yourself supported by Creator…Everything in your life healed, all changes you desire ARE…Your mind does not need to know how you got there….Allow yourself to time feel this…Now ask your higher self what do you need to heal first. Trust the first answer you receive, stay in your heart, remember that it may not be rational. My brand new car is now 4 years old, scratched, has a crack in the windshield and no longer has that new car smell. On a day that feels like yesterday, my wonderful son was born, that day was 21 years ago. When I first began creating the collage on the cover, I did not know I would be among the growing wave of artists, writers, mediums and researchers participating in what some call her “resurrection.” Gravitating toward a piece of paper the color of the halos of spiritual teachers, I had no idea of the vision that would unfold upon it. Attracted to a beautiful image of Kwan Yin painted by Jayna Simpson, I placed it on the golden paper, gazing at the goddess for some time. Plucking out fragments of paper, my hands fashioned an ethereal veil for Kwan Yin, her figure floating in an otherworldly temple. Mother

Mary and the Hindu goddess, Lalita, joined her, forming a holy trinity of goddesses hovering over a figure I initially thought was Eve. As the vision continued to unfold, a red veil and the alabaster jar used to hold the perfume she anointed Jesus with all began to tell another story. The triune goddess was actually presiding over the healing of the story of Mary Magdelene. To the right, a shrouded figure was being purified with healing waters, seeming to represent whoever wrongfully portrayed Magdelene in the Bible as a sinful, emotionally disturbed woman. The work of both biblical scholars and spiritual mediums is now revealing that Magdelene was not only the disciple Jesus showed the most affection toward – “his beloved” - but she was also his most apt student, whom he delighted in. Sharing his most mystical teachings with her in visions, he commissioned her as a messenger, but The Gospel of Mary reveals how her attempts to share these teachings with the others were met with hostility, particularly by Peter, who scorned both women as teachers, as well as intuitive knowledge. In fact, in all of the Gnostic texts excluded from the Bible there are examples of Magdelene’s spiritual knowledge and intuitive gifts being met with jealousy and skepticism. Could this be why these texts were excluded from the Bible and her voice and story almost silenced forever? The new picture of Mary Magdelene being painted reveals that she is, as prophesied, a stronghold, or a spiritual pillar of support for anyone seeking to share their spiritual gifts in challenging circumstances. Attuning to Magdelene’s presence, we can be strengthened, blessed, and guided by the flame of her courage in the face of opposition, her passion for spiritual teachings, and her continuing devotion, even in exile. Visiting the plane of consciousness where the goddesses reside, we can attune to any goddess or god we feel attracted to. When we chant their sacred names, and contemplate (or create) sacred images with intense devotion, they come alive and we may find ourselves receiving visionary teachings to help usher in a new spiritual era. This article is dedicated as an offering at the lotus feet of Sri Swami Viswamatha, the Mother of the Universe, and to all of the masters who have introduced me to the Divine Feminine in Her various forms.

A Little Boost for Immortality By Deepak Chopra As we all grow older, the span of mortality left to us becomes smaller and smaller. This shrinkage naturally makes us think about immortality. The possibility of surviving death lies at the heart of almost every religion, yet it would be comforting if factual evidence existed, not simply the reassurance of spiritual guides. I was so deeply affected by my father’s death a few years ago that I wrote an entire book to consider if life after death can be proved. I emerged from that project with a good deal of comfort and reassurance. And all of it was rationally based. I won’t repeat the many arguments in favor of the afterlife (the book is called Life After Death if you are deeply interested). Most people have heard about near-death experiences. There are the scoffers who reject such experiences. It’s hard to get believers and skeptics to agree even on basic points; so wide is the gap between the two camps. But gradually science has had to confront the possibility of immortality — not yet for the soul but for the basic fabric of the universe.
It’s a given in physics that matter and energy cannot be created or destroyed. In recent years theorists have extended this notion to information. We began to hear about information fields that are as basic to the cosmos as energy fields. Why? Because as simple molecules grew into more complex ones, they kept moving into even greater complexity. You’d think that once it reached thousands of individual atoms, an organic chemical would break apart instead of building itself into an even more complex molecule. Yet life has evolved inexorably. Blue-green algae, a very primitive life form, still exists but it no longer rules the scene. Without wiping out the lower forms of life, evolution kept adding on. Some kind of invisible glue is at work, and for the moment, information is favored as that glue. If the information invisibly holding a molecule together has its own integrity, then striving for a creation like human DNA with its three billion individual codons, seems more plausible. It’s like having a vocabulary that you build on. The ten-

SPIRIT dency is to add more words, not to randomly lose the early ones as you go. Just as you may have to remind yourself of old words, nature reminds itself of earlier life forms, which is what happens in the womb as a human fetus develops from a single fertilized ovum, passing through stages that repeat the biology of fish, reptiles, lower mammals, and so forth on its journey to being fully human. Ultimately, nothing valuable is forgotten. The bald fact is that DNA exists, whether or not a theory can explain it. Another bald fact is that every person is already a field of information containing trillions of data, each one related to an experience. As billions of pieces of raw data bombard our senses every day, the information field shifts, changes, and grows. No mechanical notion of randomness makes sense here. What we observe in ourselves is that information has a life of its own. Some scientists believe that information can only be transformed; it cannot be created or destroyed. That sounds convincing for molecules, but the implications for human immortality are also striking. It’s too easy to palm off the afterlife as something incidental to human comfort, a way of not being frightened by death or a primitive reaction to the unknown. Atheists and skeptics, who are astonishingly glib as a group, constantly fall back on the primitiveness of sacred beliefs, disregarding that they are talking to people who are not primitive, afraid, or myth mongers. (Some believers, in fact, are quite a bit less primitive than the usual run of atheists and skeptics.) Let’s say that we stop condescending to sacred belief and take it seriously. Then we find that reincarnation, for example, fits rather well with the idea of constantly transforming information. The soul fits rather well into the notion that information can organize itself into a coherent, contained structure, the way DNA organizes billions of chemical bits into a coherent, contained structure. I’m not saying that information is enough to explain the soul. We must account for consciousness, too. It’s very nice if my memories survive my demise the way a computer’s hard drive survives when the machine is turned off. But what we really want is that “I,” the self, survives. I think that wish, basic as it is, blocks our vision. This limited self that is encased in a physical body stands for much more — it stands for consciousness as a whole. No one contains all the possibilities of the mind, which are infinite. Yet the field of consciousness, like the field of infor-
mation, does contain the whole. That’s how a field works. The electromagnetic field contains all the electromagnetic energy in the universe, even though a compass or an electric toaster manifests only the tiniest fraction of the field. Immortality got a boost when science realized that fields are the source of everything that exists, and since a field isn’t solid, visible, perceived by the senses, or contained by a single brain, the whole solid, visible world was called into question. In short, the immortal came first in nature, the mortal came second. All change must be explained against the background of non-change. Immortality is just a synonym for wholeness. I know that sounds very abstract, and we haven’t even touched on the details of relating advanced physics to consciousness. But at least we can keep an open mind about immortality without dividing into outworn camps of religionists versus scientists. By recognizing that the really big things like mind, consciousness, the origin of life, and the birth of the cosmos remain very open questions, we won’t fall into the simplistic close-mindedness that scoffs at immortality. The scoffers should be running for cover, because science is undermining them more and more every day.

Dear Kim, You have often talked about our loved ones always being close to us after they have crossed over and for the most part, that is comforting. I have a question about the people who you did not love here on earth. I have never had a close relationship with my mother-in-law; in fact it has been a very hard relationship. I try to keep it pleasant for my husband and daughter, but I would not take comfort in knowing that, after she passes she would be walking close with me. Does a person need to accept that they are near, whether we want them to be or not? ~ Karen M., Calgary, Alberta ~ Great question! When "we" cross over, we only change form, we really do not go anywhere, we operate at a vibration that the physical eyes cannot see. So, she cannot be separate from you or your family. The great news is that we all heal in every way; mentally, emotionally and physically when we let go of our physical bodies. We learn from our mistakes that are made in the physical life. When your mother-in-law passes, I can assure you that she will only come to you with love and compassion. The knowledge that she will be able to watch over your husband and your daughter should help you to be at ease with the knowledge that she is close by. Think of her as a "guardian" to the people that mean the most to you here on earth. Since my grandmother passed 3 years ago, she has visited me several times in my dreams. I have spoken to a couple of intuitives who told me that my grandmother wants to talk to me, but they have never enlightened me as to what my grandmother wants to say to me. A newly emerging approach could change conventional understanding of health and healing. Focusing on experiments that quantify the effects of energy, light and information on human beings, world-renowned scientists William Tiller, Ph.D., and Gary Schwartz, Ph.D., are studying the Reconnective Healing frequencies first discovered by Eric Pearl, a doctor of chiropractic. Where Is The Joy? By Juey Ann McLeod My husband seems to have changed, since he stopped talking to his mother after she tried to lay blame on him for his father’s death. He knows he is not responsible but he has even withdrawn sexually and that is not like him – what can I do? For someone who is sexually active to totally withdraw is a sure sign that he has closed down emotionally. Many people do not realize that we can’t close down just the feelings of guilt, anger, and sorrow without closing down our whole feelings including happiness, desire, and joy.

feelings in the moment and allowing how you feel into your voice is a great thing. Often couples let things build by not expressing them, then they blow like a volcano. This is a very harmful technique! The ‘guilty’ person or the one who did something little to cause the ‘blowup’ is totally unaware of the many built-up feelings – in fact usually can‘t remember – therefore feels attacked. Aggressive fighters use sarcasm, blame, putdowns, guilt and/or loud voices. Passive fighters use dirty looks, silence and do activities that exclude their partner.
Men often withdraw to come up with a solution. It sounds like his grief at losing his father, and perhaps childhood issues with his mother, have kept his heart so closed that it has interfered with his ability to come out of this.
The Gottman Love Institute studied couples who have kept things to themselves for years. When something huge happens such as death of a family member or loss of family retirement funds, most often the grieving person seeks someone outside the marriage to talk it out with. This sets the stage for affairs and divorces.
I would suggest two things: (1) that he get assistance from a professional psychologist or an energy practitioner who has experience with grief and forgiveness, and (2) he forgive his mother for her outburst by understanding that anger is an important step in the five steps of grieving. It comes to me, that she might have been feeling inadequate in some way and could not accept feeling so inadequate. Perhaps she felt she was to blame.
Expressing yourself during times of emotional stress is an art form. It is suggested that when you have been pondering something and wish to discuss it, use a soft opening – that is, explain using a soft voice and ask if the event is remembered. Then express how you felt about the incident. The other important key is to listen to what the other person is saying – repeating what you heard is a way of letting the other person know they are being heard.

Have you ever wondered why the date of Easter changes each year? It is because this celebratory date is linked to the first Sunday after the full moon following the spring equinox. The roots of this popular celebration are found in a fascinating mix of Paganism, Hebrew and Christian traditions, with links as far back as Ancient Egypt. In 325 A.D., The Roman Emperor Constantine gathered together a forum of Christian leaders, who travelled from Europe and the Middle East. They met at Nicea, which is known today as Iznik, Turkey. Here at the council of Nicea, the hand-picked guests negotiated the dates of important Christian events. Easter holds some interesting lore in its given name: “Eostre” pronounced “East-Ra” is an Anglo Saxon fertility goddess of the growing light of spring and purity and her consort was a very libidinous rabbit. Rabbits and hares were well recognized at this time for fertility. “Eostre” is also the name of a shining holiday which is connected to the East where the sun rises. This is linked to the famous “Eos” the Greek goddess of the dawn. “Ostra” is a German Goddess and is honoured during the spring equinox in the northern hemisphere when night and day are balanced and equal.

Gaia speaks to me. She teaches me about myself through contact with our four-legged, winged, and finned brothers and sisters. She communicates unconditional love through my dogs, cats and horses. She speaks to me of support through rocks, gems and crystals. She tells me of abundance as she provides food and drink to nourish my physical body. She expresses beauty and wisdom in a droplet of water; indeed in all of Her creations. She is exquisitely generous. She is my beloved Grandmother Earth. Gaia (pronounced /gi/a/) is known as the Greek goddess representing the Earth. She is also known as Mother Nature, Mother Earth and Grandmother Earth. Her womb has been described as the birthing place of all life. Those of the Sweet Medicine SunDance Path honour women on Earth as two-legged manifestations of the receptive, creative energy of Grandmother Earth. It is believed that She teaches each of us; women and men alike, to go inside and draw upon our intuitive place of knowing. (Thunder Strikes, Orsi, Song of the Deer, 1999) Her breath is my breath. Her heartbeat is my heartbeat. Her wisdom is my wisdom. This is my truth. Is it possible that Earth is one big, beautiful ball of energy? I invite you to believe in the possibility. The Gaia hypothesis and Gaia theory present a framework for understanding our connectedness to Grandmother Earth. Simply stated, the Gaia hypothesis views the world as a single organism. The original hypothesis, formulated in the 1960’s by scientist James Lovelock has since been supported by several scientific studies, therefore it is now correctly referred to as Gaia theory. (Lovelock, Nature, 1990) One way to connect with this Gaia energy, of which we are part of, is to ground ourselves deeply and safely into our beloved Grandmother Earth. Her creativity and wisdom are available to you, as your birthright. You simply need to reach out to Her. When people are ungrounded they may be unfocussed; their thoughts may be scattered or random. They may appear hyperactive and may speak very quickly, sometimes louder than usual. They may experience dizziness. They may also be disengaged from others and forgetful because they are not entirely present for a conversation or event. I believe this occurs when people are not
PHENOMENON fully present in the moment in their physical bodies. Sometimes it is desirable for our spirits to temporarily leave our bodies but when you choose to be fully present, grounding yourself into Gaia is ever so helpful. Find a quiet moment and create your own grounding meditation by standing or sitting with both your feet flat on the ground. Imagine that you have cords on the bottom of both of your feet and gently push those cords deep into Grandmother Earth’s belly, where all life is created. Also imagine that there is a similar cord at the base of your spine and send that cord deep into Grandmother Earth. See this connection in your mind’s eye and FEEL it in your body. Then give thanks. As crazy in love as I am with Gaia, I also worship my guides and angels so I call upon them to support me in my own grounding and connecting meditation. Shift Your Energy, Shift Your Life By Jane Mueller EFTCert-1, CBS, SHCL Ask any practitioner involved with energy for healing, they will tell you the significance of raising our vibration and most will agree on the important benefits and the desired effect of living at a higher frequency level. Though his research had nothing to do with the vibration of abnormal fat cells, I would think that a healthier body functioning close to its ideal weight would vibrate at a higher frequency level. A recent research study by Dr. P. Stapleton's team at the School of Medicine in Griffith University, Australia, showed EFT sharply reduced food cravings. These researchers studied ninety-six overweight or obese adults, and followed up with the research 12 months later on the same subjects.
