A WORLD OF CIRCUS, CABARET AND FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT...

5 MAY - 25 SEPTEMBER

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WE PROUDLY PRESENT LONDON WONDERGROUND AT SOUTHBANK CENTRE 2016!

WELCOME

We’re thrilled to welcome you to London Wonderground, our spectacular slice of Coney Island in the centre of London. Back for its fifth award-winning season at Southbank Centre, the festival is renowned for bringing the best in international circus and cabaret to the very heart of the capital. Our headline show this year is the amazing Barbu by Cirque Alfonse. Crammed with crazy circus, a thumping live music score and lots of humour this is the most fun you’ll have in a tent for a very long time. Add to this the world premiere of rodeorocking cabaret The Raunch, the return of Briefs for a strictly limited run and a whole host of cabaret, burlesque and family shows in our magnificent Spiegeltent. Have a great festival! Ed Bartlam and Charlie Wood Directors, Underbelly

Who doesn’t want to break free of the humdrum and revel in an atmosphere of wit, spectacle and the risqué? That’s why we’re inviting you to explore the huge range of shows that we’ve organised this year in our London Wonderground. And the presence of the historical Pleasure Gardens in this area is a tradition we’re happy to preserve. We hope you have an exhilarating time. Jude Kelly, OBE Artistic Director, Southbank Centre

BARBU

CIRQUE ALFONSE

presents

‘THE MOST FUN YOU’LL HAVE IN A TENT THIS YEAR’ HHHHH THE SCOTSMAN

Packed with astonishing acrobatics and perfectly groomed beards, Cirque Alfonse’s Barbu cavorts into the capital for its London premiere this summer. Daring, raucous, eccentric and downright FUN, Barbu combines edge-of-your-seat acrobatics with crazy cabaret acts and a heart thumping score from the show’s live band. It’s cabaret circus for the 21st century and it’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Founded in 2005, Cirque Alfonse are the beating heart of the Québec circus world and were last seen in London with their hit show Timber! at Southbank Centre. Cast members have worked with some of the most renowned companies in the world including Cirque Du Soleil, Cirkus Cirkor and Les 7 Doights de la Main (Seven Fingers). Barbu arrives in London hot on the heels of its critically acclaimed European premiere at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe last year. Run away with the (mad) circus and get ready to party!
