Amsterdam Dance Explosion 2012 Manfred Tari mt@vip-booking.com
The Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) once again set new recordsin terms of the number of participants, surrounding events and festival OFFICIAL NUMBERS visitors.
What is your final conclusion about ADE 2012? – We are really very happy, we set some new records again, both on the conference and the festival numbers. Several weeks before the event even started we had 3500 delegates, and there were 200.000 visitors to the festival-program, we had more venues, about 80 this time for the night-program and there were 1700 DJs performing; all in all that is really quite a lot! Also this year we added ADE playground to the event, to take another step. I know I’ve asked you this question before, but that was ages ago and meanwhile everything has grown: How is the festivalprogramcompiled these days? – It’s more structured, we are constantly in dialogue with the venues to sort out the programme, we try to sort out what we need to

which artists are relevant, do we want more liveartistsand should we try to get them on board? We combine all that with expertise of the clubs themselves. For example: The programme of the Melkweg – they know much better what works over there than I do. That works better and better, also because the whole dance-scene want to showcase their artists, their labels, their agencies at ADE of course. The Orange Stage – more than 30 years under the canopy Orange Stage is the symbol of Roskilde Festival and has been so since 1978. The orange canopy was originally designed in the UK for The Rolling Stones’ summer tour in 1976. The present canopy, however, is a new and larger version from 2001, providing 1,200 sq m of stage cover. Orange Stage has the capacity for really major acts. Over the years, artists such as Bob Marley, U2, Bob Dylan, Metallica, Nirvana, Radioheadand Rage Against the Machine have played on the stage. The stage and the area in front of it have room for 60,000 people. Two big screens (50 sq. m) provide a great view of the stage for everyone and a specially-designed pit system ensures a good and safe concert experience. Productions on the stage have gradually grown in size.

Contention over Predicted Effects of the UK Live Music Act Allan McGowan am@vip-booking.com
In the last issue we reported on the coming into law of the Live Music Act which deregulates live performances in rooms of no more than 200 people capacity and on the claims by a UK Music commissioned study that this would result in a significant number of venues either starting to present live music or increasing present programmes. The Report predicted that an additional 300,000 plus live shows would take place. Much as we welcome many aspects of the beneficial effects that the Act could have we noted that many existing dedicated music venues
