ere comes our 2nd issue to welcome the New Year. Many might have already drafted their New Year resolutions and getting a pet might be one of them. If you do decide to add a pet to your family, I personally suggest you to adopt from a local shelter or pet rescuers. In this issue, we are featuring a very handsome dog, Jamal, named by his rescuer Mr. Sharul Nizam or better known as Abang Kucing. Our team has decided to feature a rescued pet as our cover for all upcoming issues and Abang Kucing was the first person who crossed my mind. He is a very vocal Malay Muslim who speaks out for animals’ welfare including dogs. Even though his actions triggered some heated discussions, it frequently leads to better acceptance and understanding towards dogs from the Muslim community. Follow Mr. Sharul’s story in page 4 and 5. We recognize that pet adoption is important for the welfare of rescued pets. If you have a rescued pet up for adoption, feel free to be in touch with us as we might feature it as our next cover. e’re back from Pet Expo Johor Bahru 2016, and what a great time we had there! The event was held on the 26th and 27th of November 2016 in Expo @ Danga City Mall, and has been participated by many big and small brands across the industry, speakers, and NGOs. Report continues next page.

Animals Galore
Other than dogs and cats, we were also joined by many other animals, including reptiles and fishes. There’s even a petting area for children to experience what it feels like to be surrounded by small, cute animals! The event has been a great success with a huge crowd turnout. Hope to see you again next year!

ot all heroes wear capes. Mr. Sharul Nizam, or better known as Abang Kucing in social media, is one who is especially unique - he is an animal rescuer and activist who does not discriminate against any animal, including dogs, despite being a Muslim.

In this issue of Very Important Pet Magazine, we follow the story of Mr. Sharul Nizam and his rescued dogs, Jamal, and others. Mr. Sharul is very vocal about his thoughts and beliefs, and does not hide his love for animals. He does not shy away from discussions and has always defended his principles.

Throughout the years, he has rescued many animals, including Jamal, our cover dog for this issue. However, Mr. Sharul’s journey has not been easy. He has faced criticism and complaints from others due to his Islamic religion. Despite that, he still strives for the acceptance of animals, especially dogs, in the Malay-Muslim communities. Slowly but surely, we can feel the impact of his effort. Despite the hardship, Abang Kucing has no lack of supporters too. He frequently receives words of support from people of
all races and religions for his ideals. Mr. Sharul hopes that the public could be more aware about the issue of animal abuse as well as animal welfare. *During the preperation to print our magazine, the editorial team was gladly surprised by the news that Jamal has already
found a new loving home. Nevertheless, there are many other dogs that are available for adoption. For those who would like to know more about Mr. Sharul or would like to extend some help to him, you may contact the VIP Magazine team or search for Sharul Nizam Ab Rahim in Facebook to contact him.
