future where stray dogs and cats are free from starvation? Sounds like a noble plan! This is the dream of our team at Very Important Pet Magazine who have recently launched Animal Food Bank (AFB). another chilly night in starvation. It takes a standard noodle bowl full of kibbles or rice, once a day, to keep a stray animal from hunger. We are talking about feeding not just one, but ten, sometimes hundreds or thousands of them, seven days a week. This is not only a lot of hard work; it is also a

Campaign. This campaign aims to garner support from well known figures and celebrities to join us as AFB ambassador, representing AFB in a series of campaigns to spread and educate the importance of caring for the less fortunate animals

needy ones for free! Food, known as the most basic survival needs of life, is often taken for granted. Many of us are spoilt with the luxury of choice to choose where and what we want to eat. But, as we bask in such luxury, animal rescuers and shelters struggle to make ends meet by ensuring that they have enough to fill the stomach of the strays under their care, so that the poor little ones don’t go through

heavy burden of monetary commitment. We are lucky to receive 500 packs of treats from Hachiko as a contribution to our AFB program and we are hopeful that more businesses will come forward to contribute to this meaningful cause. Realizing our resources are limited, AFB has launched an AFB Ambassadors Recruitment

S

itting alongside a beautiful river at Sungai Lui, K9 Cottage is home to Salehin, the coordinator of Dr Dog Malaysia with his lovely canine residents. Salehin is not a rescuer and K9 Cottage is not a shelter but throughout his work with Dr Dog Malaysia, some dogs crossed his path (some were abandoned) and they have been living with him since then. This is my second visit at K9 Cottage and I brought along some goodies. Hachiko contributed a total

of 500 packs of dog treats to Animal Food Bank, of which 100 packs donated to Salehin. When I first visited Salehin, this place was basically a jungle. Salehin built K9 Cottage from scratch with as much of recycled materials as possible. Consumable plants are planted everywhere and if you are as lucky as us, you will be treated with a meal freshly harvested from the farm! We were treated with “Pecal”, a dish made of Daun keledek & Paku (veges).

- Salehin is retired and relies on his depleting savings and occasional boarding service he offered. - The place is without electricity and connection will cost RM30,000. - Dogs under his care consume 50 kg of dog food per week. - If you wish to help Salehin, you can get in touch with us through Animal Food Bank Facebook page. - We will continue featuring Salehin and cover more about Dr Dog Malaysia in the future issues.
