The
Cottage Elene Chichashvili
A pretty little cottage stood in the field.
A fly flew by, stopped and said: — What a pretty little cottage! Does anybody live here? There was no answer. So the fly settled to live in the cottage.
Then a mosquito flew along, stopped and said: — What a pretty little cottage! Does annybody live here? — I do, Fly the Buzz. And who are you?
— I am Mosquito the Fuzz. So they settled to live in the cottage, two of them together.
Then a mouse ran past, stopped and said: — What a pretty little cottage! Does annybody live here? — I do, Fly the Buzz. And I do, Mosquito the Fuzz. And who are you?
— I am Mouse the Squeak. So they settled to live in the cottage, three of them together.
Then a frog hopped along, stopped and said: — What a pretty little cottage! Does annybody live here? — I do, Fly the Buzz. And I do, Mosquito the Fuzz. And I do, Mouse the Squeak. And who are you?
— I am Frog the Croak. So they settled to live in the cottage, four of them together.
Then a hare scampered past, he stopped and said: — What a pretty little cottage! Does annybody live here? — I do, Fly the Buzz. And I do, Moskito the Fuzz. And I do, Mouse the Squeak. And I do, Frog the Croak. And who are you?
— I am Hare Easily Scared. So they settled to live in the cottage, five of them together.
Then a fox trotted along, stopped and said: — What a pretty little cottage! Does annybody live here? — I do, Fly the Buzz. And I do, Mosquito the Fuzz. And I do, Mouse the Squeak. And I do, Frog the Croak. And I do, Hare Easily Scared. And who are you?
— I am Fox the Chatterbox. So they settled to live in the cottage, six of them together.
One day a wolf loped past, stopped and said: — What a pretty little cottage! Does annybody live here? — I do, Fly the Buzz. And I do, Moskito the Fuzz. And I do, Mouse the Squeak. And I do, Frog the Croak. And I do, Hare Easily Scared. And I do, Fox the Chatterbox. And who are you?
— I am Wolf the Hungry Mouth. So they settled to live in the cottage, seven of them together.
And then a bear lumbered up, stopped and said: — What a pretty little cottage! Does annybody live here? — I do, Fly the Buzz. And I do, Mosquito the Fuzz. And I do, Mouse the Squeak. And I do, Frog the Croak. And I do, Hare Easily Scared. And I do, Fox the Chatterbox. And I do, Wolf the Hungry Mouth. And who are you?
— I am Bear of Shaggy Hair. — Come and live here with us.
— The cottage is too small for me. I cannot get inside. So I’ll live on the roof. He climbed on the roof of the cottage and crushed it to a pile of chips.
Out rushed Fly the Buzz, Mosquito the Fuzz, Mouse the Squeak, Frog the Croak, Hare Easily Scared, Fox the Chatterbox, and Wolf the Hungry Mouth — all safe and sound.
— Let’s build a new cottage! — said Bear of Shaggy Hair. And they built a new cottage, better than the old one!
