MOVING MUMBAI This project seeks to use infrastructure as a catalyst for the city, serving both as concentrated urban nodes and the links between them. It exists on two scales. The first breaks up the eastern waterfront by lifting the railway vertically allowing for passage underneath. The new rail system seeks to alleviate congestion on the western highway by dispersing the commuters to the new passenger rail. The second scale reaches vertical to provide additive residential development along the rail line. Currently in Mumbai most residential development exists in the Northern slums, this project looks to bring residential housing down to where the jobs exist on the peninsula of Mumbai.

CIRCULATING WELLNESS Our site, located at the end of Brandon Avenue, acts as a cap to the University of Virginia’s campus. When originally given the prompt for a new student health center our studio began an intensive research study on atmospheric conditions and typologies of building, My personal research included circulation as a typology for design and biophilic atmospheres in recreational environments. Therefore I focused on water filtration as a source of therapy and recreation. My building serves as a ramping disability access center, following the natural movement of water and people on the site, allowing people to collect where water collects and move where water moves.

THE URBAN PRISM Linking the pedestrian Downtown Mall and the University of Virginia campus in Charlottesville, Virginia, West Main Street has the potential to be a hub for commercial and residential growth. A key portion of the street remains vacant and lacks any public or residential. In order to connect the two nodes this project proposed a re-orientation of the street facades in order to direct foot traffic towards an underused pedestrian path by manipulating the terrain. The building itself was designed from the unit out. The structure is fixated on a geometric modular system allowing for solar oriented windows to re-direct and focus light into the multi-story housing unit. Each family has access to a 3 story apartment with room for congregation and privacy throughout.

THE BASILISK OF FALLING WATER WG Clark’s West addition at the UVA school of architecture features a rain water drainage system. After analyzing where rainwater tends to congregate, the goals of the project was to connect Clark’s hydrological system to the parking lot situated above the drains. The pod consisted of 2,000 aluminum cans supported by a rebar grid. Forcing the can to fold in a direction opposite to its manufactured form, while simultaneously keeping it in its curvilinear shape, the aluminum can acted as a mesh gripping onto the rebar. The interior of the can faces out in order to play with the relationship between water and light when water flows off the shingled facade.

ALUMINUM CORREGATION In order to create an efficient assembly system, the cans where pre-assembled in horizontal lines which where then attached to the rebar.

REBAR ASSEMBLY The rebar grid acts as the structural definition of the aluminum can mesh. The can folds around the rebar and then slidWes into place amongst the other cans, allowing for a integrated structural-mesh system.

FOLDING STRATEGY If you fold the aluminum soda can in the opposite direction of its fabrication you get a self maintain compression which holds its shape.
