EXECUTIVE COMMENT
President, Garth Webber Atkins
January and February form a season of impatience for me. Once the holiday season is over, I am over winter, and ready for spring. That makes for a couple of months of alternating hope and disappointment, even here on the Island, where it is closer to possible than in the rest of Canada. Unusually, the 944 is sitting at the front of the queue on the driveway, as it’s been making trips out for appointments for upkeep and maintenance. For the car, not me. I can sense it pawing the ground, impatient to run. The Club doesn’t typically schedule runs in the winter months, at least in my experience, but maybe we should reconsider. In my January 1st e-mail, I encouraged members to share pictures of their Porsches in the snow, and we saw a couple of 911s and a Taycan. I can see on the streets that the Macans and Cayennes are going about their business, so perhaps they’d be happy for a fun run as well. Those of us who joined Klaus Kreye’s well-attended presentation about his entry into the 2016 Alcan 5000 Winter Rally saw that 944’s are up to a long trek on snow roads. It certainly expands one’s view of the possibilities. I expect many members with all-wheel drive make good use of that feature over the winter. So what do you think? Would you participate in a winter drive? In the meantime, we will continue to offer up mental excursions via Zoom over the winter. On February 16, please join us to learn about Adventure Touring, an event that is growing in popularity. You can find the details further along in this issue, in Around the Bend. For any other “Porsche in the snow” photos yet to come, we now have a new Miscellaneous folder in the Gallery on the web site. You will have to log in to see it, as the photos currently posted in it are visible to members only. Unlike the other folders, it is not tied to a specific event. You can post here, or on Facebook, as you prefer. Given the current health orders around organized events and gatherings, it seems our Club connections will have to be outside or online for now. As a club, we will continue to look for creative ways to celebrate and enjoy our Porsches and our Porsche community, and to hope for better days ahead. Stay safe and sane, Garth

PCA Zone 6 Representative John Sommerwerck
Zone 6 Update appy New Year! I would like to introduce myself as the new Zone 6 Rep. Below I have excerpted a few lines from my bio to be published in the February issue of Panorama:
I am a long-time car enthusiast. Early in my car buying, I decided to buy a Z28 Camaro instead of Porsche 914, big mistake. I purchased my first Porsche, a 2003 911 Carrera 4, in 2005. My wife, Nancy, and I joined the Silver Sage Region in 2010 and we have been enjoying PCA regional and national events ever since. When I am not participating in PCA events, I can be found on the ski slopes or playing tennis. I am looking forward to the role as Zone 6 representative and getting to know more of my fellow PCA’ers. I want to thank Mark & Linda Prusynski for all their guidance and support. Initially, in helping me understand what a Zone Rep’s job is and helping me navigate the steps towards filling the position. Mark tells me, the Zone Rep is the best job in PCA. I look forward to learning what Mark meant. We continue to be impacted by Covid. The Winter PCA in-person meeting has once again become a Zoom meeting. However, Zone 6 activity planning is moving ahead. Nancy & I have already signed up for; Canada West Region’s Escape 2022 and Inland Northwest Region’s 50th Anniversary Gala. I will be holding my first Region Presidents’ meeting in Boise the weekend of March 18/19. We are planning to attend: Parade (Phase 1 signup opens February 2); both Spring and Fall Treffens; Broadmoor (registration opens on February 16); SunRiver; Vancouver Island Region’s charity event at Black Rock; and Silver Sage Region’s fall car show - Oktoberfast. We would love to hear of other events you think we should be considering. Stay healthy and we will see you in the Zone.
