Introduction to VAD 2022 Here we are again, virtually. Animation Dingle board made the very challenging decision to go virtual back in January when we could count the weeks until the Festival on our fingers. We stand firm behind the decision, with international flights and companies still maintaining travel restrictions. We wanted to bring the best Animation Dingle we could to all our attendees under the circumstances, and we think we have. So, here is VAD 2022. A dynamic and fresh Animation Dingle 2022 brings you new areas for discussion like AR/VR/ MR/XR/Meta WTF? and UNREAL ENGINE where we consider the crossover between animation and game design and game design in its own right as well as new technologies to assist and support this exciting sector. We are also holding on to all those popular and supportive events such as the Big Pitcher where students can forge their own pathway into the industry. Nothing affirms this more than our Dingle Animation Alumni - check out what they are doing now and what they have to say about their own origin stories with Animation Dingle. And so much more besides… One Platform, one entry, all access. Watch over 100 short films, representing 20 countries; attend our conference, workshops and awards; conduct or attend meetings and feed into events through Discord….whatever you decide to do, your all access Pass will give you entry. Congratulations to Eileen Bell on being this year’s recipient of The Murakami Award. Jimmy is smiling down on you now I’m sure Eileen. Thank you to John Rice and all the amazing staff in Jam Media for their time, creativeness and love of Animation Dingle. Bravo! Cath & Jemma, here in Animation Dingle! My sincere thanks to our Industry Partners Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, to Enterprise Ireland and to each of our sponsors in supporting us to bring you this festival. Thank you also to our selectors this year and to our Jury panel, there were some incredible films vying for awards and an opportunity to now be considered for an Academy Award®. So, enjoy our VAD 2022. Wherever you join us from, we welcome you - Fáilte! Have fun and thank you for being with us. Maurice Galway Festival Director/Co-Founder Animation Dingle

Welcome

Dear guests, We’re excited and delighted to continue on the success of last year’s virtual festival by offering a Jam packed two days of conferences, screenings, workshops, awards and networking opportunities for both students and professionals. Animation Dingle has continued to attract world class contributors that see the festival not only as a content rich destination but also as a celebration of the strength of the Animation Sector in both colleges and in the companies. The sector has grown almost 30% over the pandemic and is crying out for new and emerging voices. It’s a place where students can get employed and studios can build their crews while learning about the forces shaping the ever changing media landscape. I’m very much looking forward to welcoming the animation tribes once again to Virtual Animation Dingle. Onwards! John rice CEO Jam Media

Murakami Award Jimmy T Murakami is known affectionately as the founding father of animation in Ireland. Animation Dingle created the Murakami Award in his honour and he was the first recipient of it. This award was redesigned in 2021. Jimmy was a devotee of capturing nature and the world around him. We remember his incredible work on When the Wind Blows. In an effort to capture and integrate his love for Irish wildlife, that wind of change which Jimmy brought to Irish animation, his animated work and his own light and ethereal personality, we have chosen this image of Bog Cotton blowing in the breeze...like Jimmy, with us still, blowing in and out and around us all.
