What have we learned about Scotland?

What did we do during the activities dedicated to the National Day of Scotland?

We placed Scotland on the map.

We made collages with the map of Scotland and its flag.

We made collages with the Scottish national flowers: the thistle and the Scottish bluebell.

We have learned that the thistle is an ancient (Celtic) symbol of nobility of character as well as of birth and the Scottish bluebell is a wild flower which blooms across the Scottish hillsides in springtime.

We heard the story of how the thistle saved Scotland.

We have learned about Nessie - The Loch Ness Monster.

We made collages, drawings and even monsters in origami technique).

We have learned about the kilt - the national dress in Scotland.

We coloured, painted or cut children dressed in Kilts and Scottish castles making drawings, posters or decorative items.

Starting with the last work - The Bagpipes Singers, we wrote a story of the brotherhood between the Scottish man (with his traditional bagpipe song) and the Romanian man (with his traditional folk song at pipe) The Singers "Near a low foothill/At Heaven’s doorsill" the shepherd is playing Doina at his pipe crafted through a hard labor, taming the wilderness and wood. Filled with the magic he looks at the red of the poppies, yellow of the sun and blue of waters. These three inseparable colours will be held deep inside with faith and love of native country. He leads the ballad Mioriţa (The Little Ewe, an old Romanian pastoral ballad) to the horizons full of song of Scotland by means of his whistle sounds taken on the wings of the wind.

With his sparkling eyes and hardened cheeks due to a changeable weather, the brave Scotsman brings his immortal soul vibration through an unique instrument – the bagpipe. The song of bagpipes - carried by waves, dried by golden rays and caressed by winds - will ascend into the mysteries of the air.

In there, their majestic sounds will merge in a song of pure friendship.

The sky will give both of them a special rainbow: red, orange, pink, yellow, saffron yellow, green, blue, light blue, grey, mauve – as a pledge of immortality. So, they would say together: Life is sound, color and emotion!

Those who sing and listen to its divine whispers know how great life is!

One girl dared to sew the outline of Scottish children dressed in Kilts and other two girls sewed a Scottish practicing the Scottish sword dance.

The girls from the sewing department have asked their teacher to help them to tailor a kilt!
