Designing A Typologies Of Present Housing Scenario By Exploring FSI

Site and Programme

The Site is a vacant land parcel located on the 24.0 mts wide road connecting Kalawad road to Saurashtra University. Area of site is about 2.4 hectors. On the North East side is road connecting to University which becomes approach to the site and green open space to overlook on the rising sun side. On the setting sun side i.e. south-west is a tributary connecting to Nyari river and Gayatri Temple beyond. Site has a nallah passing through it. There are many trees along the nallah and on otherparts of the site. In neighbourhood, there are mix residential developments and has potential to be developed as eco-sensitive residential zone. Cost of land is @ 90,000 sq.mts. and cost of construction is @ 15,000 sq.mt

Amenities - Open space for enjoying nature and play - Space for spiritual engagement and health improvement - Space for knowledge engagement and art appreciation - Space for leisure, entertainment space and community gathering for interaction,celebration and eating together

Urban institute as an effective Urban insert By Designing a craftman School

Intent: To understand - Urban institute as an effective urban insert. - Urban institute as an expression of identity of the city.

Objective - To keep the campus alive by almost all times of the day. - To capitalise on local strengths in culture and crafts to pursue interdisciplinary strategic focus. - To increase knowledge exchange opportunities through national and international exchanges and collaborative projects. - To promote events and activities for extending and expanding markets for Indian handicrafts.

Course division – 2 years each • Pottery • Block printing and Tie and Dye • Paper making and Book binding • Wood working • Metal working

Site Introduction The site has a very important location with respect to the city and its connections to the surroundings towns & villages. Site acts as one of the entrances to the city having the ‘Aji River’ on one of the side. It holds a historical importance by having the city grown from the node nearby and the area has well preserved landscape and historical background with lush natural vegetation. Stating from the history, the site has always served the government functions, catering the entire Saurashtra region and not just the Rajkot city. The site today caters government functions including family court, deputy collector office, fishery department, Agriculture department, TB hospital, etc. In neighborhood, there are other different functions of government, Railway authorized buildings and the city junction. The site has potential to be developed and allowed other government functions to sit here and also build the city’s identity.

AIM - Develop surrounding of the Gangajaliya Lake & Revive the unused mahila baug into city heritage museum.

Objective Scan this QR code

- To understanding the lake and surrounding area. - To preserve the heritage and culture of the city. - How city heritage museum can do the revive of area. - To design and achieve an good active public built environment within context. - To study visitors experience and circulation pattern in museum.

Methodology - Exploring various mediums like reading literary text related to heritage/history of city. - Mapping the site and analysing its context to identify activities to be incorporated into the program. - Case study of other project s. It shall help in identifying the scope and limitation of/for this project by understanding the complexity and diversity engaged in such projects. - Identifying the site. Site analysis, documentation, amenities mapping and contextual study. - Formulation of program based on the inferences of the case studies and site.

Expected Result -Heritage museums are not only the need of the city but are also the image of the city. - It represents the culture of all generations. - As Bhavnagar is a developing city it also needs to represent a positive response towards it’s glorious heritage. - This museum will also revive the neglected Gangajaliya lake and also the surrounding lake. - Develop citizen access to the site. - Traffic control after the area gets developed. - Gift a better place to citizens of Bhavnagar.

RAMP Vehicular Ramp - The maximum slope of ramp shall be 1:7. Width of the ramp is 6.0mts. - A level platform of width equal to ramp width and length of minimum 4.5mts shall be provided at end of the ramp at ground level and basement level. - A minimum clear height of 2.6mts shall be maintained at all points on the ramp. Pedistrian Ramp - The gradient shall not be greater than 1:12. - Minimum width of ramp shall be 1.2mts and the maximum continuous length shall be 9mts. Such ramp shall have 800mm high hand rail on both sides extending 300mm beyond top and bottom of the ramp. Minimum gap from the adjacent wall to the hand rail shall be 50mm.
