Abigail DeLisle, PA.

Abigail DeLisle is a Physician Assistant working at To Help Everyone Health and Wellness Centers where she provides primary care to communities of color, including individuals living with HIV and Substance Use Disorder. She believes that HIV care and Medication Assisted Treatment should be available in primary care settings. Her passion for community-driven justice work extends by serving on the boards of Harm Reduction Sisters, Family Freedom Center, and Alworth Center for Peace and Justice Speaker Series. She previously served as the Duluth NAACP Vice President and Chair of Act-SO. She enjoys working with Black youth, supporting local community events, reading, art, hiking, and traveling through which she continues to broaden her understanding of the world and meaning of her work.

Speaker Arlene Frames

Arlene Frames is a native New Yorker, mother of 3, and a grandmother of 6. Arlene has been in the human services field for over 40 years specializing in substance abuse, mental health, prison reform and HIV. Arlene has been recognized for her work in human services by the city, assembly members and senators a few times. She is certified by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) as a trained volunteer. Arlene uses compassion, sensitivity, and commitment when addressing stigma about health disparities in communities impacted by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. She became an active member of Act up- New York. She was also creative in coordinating and promoting collaborative efforts to bridge the gap with the faith-based communities and the community at large who were mostly impacted. In Los Angeles she started private and safe spaces for support groups in her home for those who were affected by HIV. Arlene led the first faith-based AIDS awareness conference in South Central LA in the 90’s. She participated in one of the first nationwide campaigns “Women Need to Know” co-hosting with Cookie Johnson (Magic Johnson’s wife) during the time where it was not popular for heterosexual women to speak out about HIV/AIDS.

Arlene has been on the Presbyterian Board of Bible Enrichment International Fellowship Church for over 25 years and currently the Director of HIV Education and Support Services under Dr. Beverly (Bam) Crawford in Inglewood, CA. Trained by LAUSD Positivity Speaking Bureau a division of Health by LA Country School District. She is Currently serving as a Commissioner on the LA County Commission on HIV and sits on a few committees. In addition, was asked to join the Care and Wellbeing CAB hosted by UCSF, where she received training and skills development. She was presented with a scholarship to extend her training in HIV/ aging, and accepted into NMAC (National Minority AIDS Council) 50 Plus Cohort, where she received a certification. In addition to these achievements, Arlene celebrates life to the fullest having overcome AIDS for 38 years last month! She is most proud of linking people to services that save lives.

Catherine Chien, MD.

Catherine Chien earned her medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine, then moved to Los Angeles where she completed her Internal Medicine residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. With an interest in HIV primary care, she subsequently did an HIV fellowship at AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), then spent the next 12 years caring for people living with HIV at the AHF Downtown Healthcare Center. In 2014, she transitioned to her current position at Gilead Sciences as the HIV Medical Scientist in southern California, but she continues to fulfill her love of patient care by volunteering one day a week at the AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA) clinic in Baldwin Hills.

Derrick Butler, MD. MPH.

Dr. Butler is a Family Medicine Physician and HIV Specialist practicing in South Central Los Angeles. He currently serves as Chief Medical Officer at the To Help Everyone Health and Wellness Centers (T.H.E), a long-standing federally qualified community health center and is the director of T.H.E Clinic’s HIV Program. He also serves as Assistant Professor at Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science and Principal Investigator for the Pacific AIDS Education and Training Center at UCLA.

Dr. Butler is focused on addressing the current HIV/AIDS epidemic and the health disparities of urban populations.

With an additional interest in international health, Dr. Butler has also lived in Africa as a Peace Corps Volunteer and participated in medical missions in various parts of Africa.

Felipe Findley, PA-C.

Felipe Findley is a Physician Assistant providing HIV treatment and prevention services to historically marginalized communities for over 19 years getting his start in his hometown Chicago, Illinois. He currently works at Watts Healthcare Center. Health justice work has also been integral to his practice and is involved in investigating the intersections of systemic racism, police violence and mass incarceration on health outcomes and organizing health care professionals as well as working with families impacted by police violence. He is a commissioner for the Los Angeles County HIV Commission and Co-chair for the community advisory board of the UCLA Center for HIV Identification, Prevention and Treatment Services (CHIPTS).

Speaker Jessica Shavalian, Pharm D.

Is the Medical Science Liaison for ViiV Healthcare. As the medical expert for the entire ViiV portfolio, she identifies and interacts with external experts to understand their insights on ViiV’s HIV Prevention and Treatment portfolio and engages with healthcare professionals on scientific topics of interest. Additionally, she presents at ViiV scientific events for healthcare professionals, attends advisory boards, and participates in scientific conferences to stay informed on recent developments in HIV disease-state and product research. Jessica also supports ViiV clinical development activities, trains and develops ViiV speakers, and provides ongoing scientific support.

Prior to joining ViiV, Jessica worked at Walgreens Community-Based Specialty Pharmacy in Southern California, delivering clinical pharmacy services to patients with HIV, oncology, and multiple sclerosis. With an enthusiastic drive for continuous quality improvement and clinical decision support advancement, she is adept at applying her skills and knowledge in her interactions with HIV clinicians and stakeholders. Well versed in working closely with patients, providers, in the setting of infectious disease care and research, she has a comprehensive understanding of current treatment strategies, clinical guidelines, and therapeutic developments. Building on her previous accomplishments, Jessica is inspired to apply her expertise and clinical pharmacy experience within the HIV community, focusing on improving those living with HIV and those that could benefit from PrEP.

Speaker Meg Sullivan, MD.

Dr. Meg Sullivan is a board certified Infectious Disease specialist and in her role as Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center she had over twenty years of experience of providing primary and specialty care to patients living with HIV. She has held many leadership roles including Medical Director of the Center for Infectious Diseases as well as Director of HIV Clinical Services. In her role as director of clinic HIV activities she has focused on models for successful engagement and retention of HIV positive patients into ongoing medical care. She was the principal investigator of several studies implemented in the clinic related to this theme funded by the CDC, HRSA and the NIH in close collaboration with her colleagues at the BU School of Public Health.

Additionally, she has nearly twenty years of experience in the field of the reproductive health of HIV-affected patients including investigating methods to reduce HIV transmission risk in serodiscordant couples desiring conception. She was the principal investigator of the ARTEMIS (Assisted Reproduction Treatment and Education Models In Serodiscordants) study assessing the feasibility and acceptability of sperm wash and IUI in HIV-infected males with HIV negative female partners. She was also funded to investigate the use of PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) for conception in serodiscordant couples.

Speaker Pattye Anderson, NP. ANCC.

Nurse Practitioner Pattye Anderson is licensed in California and Arizona and completed her Bachelor’s education at USC in Southern CA (1994) and her Master’s degree at UCLA in 2004.

Pattye Anderson has been a NP for over 20 years and is board certified by the America Nurse Credentialing Center in family (primary) care and by the American Academy of HIV Medicine as an HIV Specialist. Pattye is also a seasoned mental health and weight loss practitioner. As a doctoral scholar at Capella University, Retention in HIV care is her research focus. She is currently completing a Capstone Intervention project addressing the utility of scheduled electronic reminders to promote retention in HIV care.

Pattye has a flexible schedule to help meet patients' needs. Pattye’s work experience includes work among the unhoused population in Skid Row, where undocumented individuals often seek help in shelters and missions. Assistance is needed by groups who have other concerns, such as chronic mental illness, substance abuse disorders and sex trafficking.

Regarding Nurse Pattye's advocacy background, she focuses on being a clinician who is known for listening to patient's needs and making sure that physical, mental, and other attributes of their healthcare are being addressed. Pattye has a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and participates in several endurance events, plus full and half marathons annually to raise awareness for teens and young adults with cancer.

Speaker LaShonda Spencer, MD. FAAP. AAHIVS.

is a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics/ Internal Medicine and Director of Drew CARES at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU). Dr. Spencer serves as the Clinic Director of OASIS Clinic at MLK Outpatient Ambulatory Center. She provides primary and preventive HIV care to adolescent and adult patients at MLK Oasis Clinic and also serves as the Medical Specialist for adolescent girls/young women on CDU’s Zambia project Her areas of research interest are HIV disease in women and young adults and Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis in LGTBQI and CSEC populations. Importantly, Dr. Spencer is a MPI for the recently NIH funded UCLA-CDU CFAR. Dr. Spencer has participated in multiple observational and therapeutic trials and has been site principal investigator (PI) for several IMPAACT studies as well as PI for her own investigator-initiated trials and pharmaceutical studies which have resulted in several peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Spencer recently completed an implementation science grant from AIDS United as well as received funding for Patient Navigation services from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). Currently, Dr. Spencer serves as a technical advisor for a HRSA Special Projects of National Significance (SPNS) Black Womens First project and is a Commissioner for the Los Angeles County Commission on HIV (COH).

Dr. Chirumamilla is a family and preventive medicine physician who is currently an associate medical director within the Division of HIV and STD Programs at Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. She oversees the HIV and STD prevention portfolio with specific emphasis on biomedical interventions such as HIV PrEP, HIV PEP, and DoxyPEP. As a health services researcher with experience in applied epidemiology, implementation science and program evaluation, Dr. Chirumamilla's clinical and research interests center on health equity and understanding the impact of sexually transmitted infections on various communities within Los Angeles County, empowering individuals and engaging communities regarding their sexual health, and evaluating innovative strategies and barriers to access HIV and STI testing, care, and prevention modalities.

Martha Tadesse MPA, MSN, MPH.

Martha Tadesse has been a nurse since 1984, working in hospitals in the community. Martha moved to Corrections in 1997, to serve justice involved persons. She exemplifies strong advocacy tempered with cultural humility to ensure that clients within the carceral system are provided quality health care and HIV specialty care in Los Angeles County Jail.

Speaker Orlando Pile, MD.

Dr. Pile earned his Medical Doctorate from the College of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey, Rutgers Medical School, and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Charles R. Drew University/Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital in Los Angeles. Since 1986, he has been a member of the Professional Staff Association of the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department Medical Services, serving as the first Chief of Communicable Diseases until his retirement in June 2015. Throughout his career, he treated numerous patients with HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis, and other communicable diseases.

A member of the Certified Health Professional Organization (CCHP) since 1990, Dr. Pile is actively involved in several organizations, including The Society of Correctional Physicians and the American Academy of HIV Medicine. He also previously served on the Board of Registered Nursing, appointed by the Governor of California.

Dr. Pile has partnered with the Department of Justice on various initiatives and is recognized as a Distinguished Faculty member of Correctional Physicians specializing in HIV/AIDS in the United States. He has lectured extensively in the U.S., Jamaica, and parts of Africa (South Africa and Malawi), discussing the impact of these diseases in correctional settings and broader communities.

As part of the Guyana Medical Relief Association, he has raised funds for medical supplies for Guyana. In his role as Medical Director of Caribbean Health Outreach, Inc., he coordinates health professionals to provide screenings and treatments in Jamaica. He also delivers lectures on 'HIV/AIDS in the U.S. and the Caribbean' and 'Sexually Transmissible Diseases' to the medical community and local schools involved in health services. For over 14 years, he has dedicated efforts to fundraising for these medical missions.

Bridget Gordon, MS.

Bridget Gordon serves organizations that address the impact and mitigation of trauma, early childhood development, health equity and HIV. She is the immediate past Co-Chair of the Los Angeles County Commission on HIV. She is the former Co-Chair of the Integration Advisory Board (IAB) for LA County Health Departments (Health Agency). The IAB advised Los Angeles County’s Board of Supervisors on the Health Departments integration of three departments, Public Health, Mental Health and Health Services.

William D. King MD JD AAHIVS

Dr. William D. King, a native of Los Angeles, established his private medical practice near his childhood home, where he continues to provide specialized care to his community. He earned his undergraduate degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology from California State University, Northridge, followed by a dual MD/JD degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. King completed his internal medicine residency at Harvard Medical School’s Cambridge Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident. He later pursued fellowships at UCLA in the prestigious Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program and in HIV clinical research.

As a board-certified physician in Internal Medicine and a certified HIV specialist, Dr. King holds an academic appointment as a Clinical Associate Professor at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. He is a recognized leader in HIV/AIDS care, having contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications, led clinical trials, and provided extensive mentorship to future medical professionals. Dr. King’s expertise is also reflected in his roles on the Los Angeles Commission on HIV and the American Academy of HIV Medicine's Council for Racial Equity.

Among his many awards and recognitions; in 2023, he received the Los Angeles County Medical Association's (LACMA) Independent Physician Leadership Award, highlighting his dedication to advancing healthcare equity. Dr. King is also a devoted family man, married with two daughters.

Dr. Ronald E. Jefferson, MD is a distinguished General Practice and Internal Medicine specialist based in Los Angeles, California.
