This early 19th century edifice is one of a series that was built to relay information about fires, uprisings or the approach of ships via a complex system of semaphore flags. At Gun Hill, you will also find a statue of a lion, carved from a single piece of coral stone in 1868 by Captain Henry Wilkinson. The lion signifies the power of the British Empire over the world, represented here by the lion’s red ball.
