Dubois County Courthouse

A Renaissance Revival-style building designed in 1910 and renovated in 1996, this prominent 4-story structure currently serves as the county’s courthouse. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Jasper City Mill

Jasper City Mill was recently constructed to resemble the former mill that once stood near the Patoka River. Tour the mill, watch the workings of the waterwheel, and embrace the serenity of the Patoka River.

Main Street and the area around the square provide an ideal background for great shopping and special festivities throughout the year. L.H. Sturm Hardware Co.

Constructed in 1886, this building was purchased by the Sturm family in 1895 for operation as a hardware store. It stands today as one of the oldest hardware stores in Indiana that has continually been operated as a hardware store by the same family. It is on the National Register of Historic Places.

River Centre

The Jasper River Centre is expected to be the hub of downtown activity in Jasper. For 2021, this new complex, located next to the Patoka River, RiverWalk, Jasper Mill and Spirit of Jasper Train and Depot, features special events throughout the year, including themed rooftop dinner parties. The St. Benedicts Brewery is also housed at the River Centre as a second location brewery.

Schaeffer Barn & Alexander Schoolhouse

This historic, hand-hewn log barn and single-room, 1918 schoolhouse are located near the new Cultural Center and Jasper Riverwalk. Originally built in the 1800s, the barn features a Cantilever Overhang typical of many German buildings during the time with a unique construction of half-dovetail notches, log cribs with 26-foot feeding troughs, and a stone foundation. The historic Alexander Schoolhouse was moved from its location south of Ireland and restored to be used for school trips, library programs, and as a tourist attraction.

Schnitzelbank Restaurant

Opened in 1961, this restaurant is widely known for its authentic German cuisine and ranks as one of the top ten independent restaurants in Indiana. Enjoy dishes commonly found in southern Germany or for the not-so-German, check out the salad, soup and bread bar or one of the many American favorites.

Spirit of Jasper Train & Depot

All aboard the Spirit of Jasper for a scenic excursion from the Jasper Train Depot. Three renovated, climate-controlled lounge cars have restrooms, comfortable seating, and a cash bar. Relax aboard the train for specialty rides including “Ride and Dine” dinner rides. The Jasper Train Depot is located in the heart of the “Old Jasper” area near the Patoka River. The depot is a replica of the former structure built in 1906 featuring an old-fashioned ticket window, rolltop desks, pot belly stove, and authentic memorabilia.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this historic business district, once destroyed by a fire in 1889, has been restored to a charming Victorian downtown, housing more than two dozen locally- owned antique and specialty shops and eateries. Most of the two-story Italianate and late Victorian buildings were built in the 1800s and early 1900s. *Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area

The Old Town Hall is an 1887 Italianate structure featuring authentic Victorian lighting, elongated windows, 14-inch brick walls, and the original tin ceiling. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this building once served as a fire station and jail, and later as the focal point for events in the 1930s. After several decades, the building was renovated and is in full use today for special events. The Market Street Park has an amphitheater and connects Old Town Hall to Historic 4th Street creating the perfect venue for concerts, festivals, and other popular events.

Amish Country - Montgomery

Experience the quiet lifestyle of the Amish, who first settled in southern Indiana during the mid-1850s. Tour homes, quilt and craft stores, woodworking establishments, and buggy, wheel and harness shops. (21 miles northwest of Jasper)

French Lick & West Baden

Visit these historic towns and tour the two grand hotels, both of which are on the National Register of Historic Places. The West Baden Springs Hotel’s magnificent dome is an awe-inspiring atrium that spans 200 feet. The French Lick Resort houses one of Indiana’s finest casinos with over 1,000 slot machines, table games, and a large poker room. (25 miles northeast of Jasper)

Lincoln Amphitheatre, Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial & Living Historical Farm

Lincoln City

Learn about the boyhood years of Abraham Lincoln. Tour the visitor’s center, the burial place of Lincoln’s mother, and the Living Historical Farm where farming currently takes place on the same fields Abe and his father farmed nearly 200 years ago. For entertainment, visit the Lincoln Amphitheatre, an 1,500-seat outdoor amphitheatre. (20 miles south of Jasper)

Huntingburg League Stadium 203 S. Cherry St. (1st & Cherry St.), Huntingburg; 812.683.2211; leaguestadium.com Built in 1894 and renovated in the early 1990s, this historical stadium served as home field for the Rockford Peaches in the filming of the hit motion picture,“A League ofTheir Own,” featuringTom Hanks and Madonna. Original advertisements from the film still remain along the outfield fence. The stadium also starred in the HBO movie, “Soul of the Game,”and is home to the Dubois County Bombers collegiate baseball team, which entertains hundreds of fans June and July each year. Holy Family Church

This modern architectural marvel, built with authentic Indiana limestone, features the nation's second largest Dalle-de-Verre (faceted glass) window and the longest unsupported roof beam at 130 feet, six and a half inches.

Ireland Historical Society

Built in 1878 as the Ireland Methodist Church, this is the oldest building in Ireland, a town a few miles west of Jasper. The building was refurbished and now serves as a meeting house. The main floor features the Ireland Historical Chapel, which may be requested for weddings. Basement features a 1,000 picture and fact collection covering the interior.

Lemmons Church

Featured on the National Register of Historic Places, this church was built in 1860 and restored in 1992. The Greek Revival structure maintains its original pews and 14’ ceilings. The adjacent cemetery officially became public in 1935 and is currently an ongoing cemetery. A detailed history and pictures are on display inside the church.

Monastery Immaculate Conception

Known as the “Castle on the Hill,” the Monastery, founded in 1867, is home to one of the nation’s largest communities of Benedictine women. The distinctive, Romanesque dome rises majestically over the town of Ferdinand, standing at 87 feet from the floor and 32 and a half feet in diameter. Throughout the church, 89 angels are present, 16 of which are depicted on the stained glass windows surrounding the dome. The church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been designated an Official Project of Save America’s Treasures. The Monastery Gift Shop offers handmade crafts from the sisters and other unique spiritual merchandise. Benedictine Hospitality Center, also on the Monastery grounds, offers a peaceful and rejuvenating getaway.

Salem United Church of Christ

Listed on the National Register of historic places, this church was originally established in 1842 by German immigrants. The third and final building that stands today was built in 1889 and highlights Victorian Gothic architecture and a very unique second-floor sanctuary. The church also appeared in the movie “Hard Rain.”

Shiloh Meeting House

Erected in 1849 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this building is known as one of the finest pioneer churches in southern Indiana and features its original pews and floors. A 2-door front door and a divider on some of the pews once served to separate the men from the women. Shiloh also has the distinction of having one of the very few pet cemeteries in the state separated from the main cemetery by Shiloh Road.

St. Joseph Church

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this magnificent 1880 Romanesque, old world-style church was built by the early parishioners and showcases priceless German stained-glass windows, Austrian-designed and imported mosaics with 50 million stones, pewter and marble statues, altars made of Italian marble, and a communion railing of onyx and brass. The tower, whose design was taken from that of the tower that houses Big Ben in London, stands at 235 feet tall. Today, the church has nearly 5,000 parishioners.

St. Meinrad Archabbey - St. Meinrad

Founded in 1854 by Switzerland monks, the Archabbey is home to over 100 Benedictine monks and offers beautiful architecture as well as a peaceful and spiritual retreat. (21 miles southeast of Jasper)

The Parklands of Jasper is a new, city-owned, 75-acre natural destination featuring 25 wooded acres, a pavilion with a patio overlooking one of the three natural ponds, two miles of walking trails, a bridge spanning beautiful water cascades, a splash pad, exercise pads, and Adventure Play Area.

Explore the simplicity of nature with a walk or bike ride on this 2.1-mile paved path in the center of Jasper. The historic Astra Theatre first opened in 1936 and operated as a family-owned movie theater for the next 66 years before closing. After a $1.7 million renovation through grants and fundraisers, the Astra reopened and now shows concerts, special movies, and other performances to the public.

Dr. Ted’s Musical Marvels

This one-of-a-kind museum offers a colossal collection of restored mechanical musical instruments from around the world. From music boxes and nickelodeons to the cheerful sounds of orchestrions, street organs, and player pianos, Dr. Ted’s embodies unique pieces from the 1800s to the mid-1900s.
