Insider Awaits: Adventure Recommendations

Fun is at the heart of Fort Wayne, where you can connect, create memories, and celebrate. We’ve gathered some of our local and visiting influencers to share their recommendations, whether your next getaway to Fort Wayne includes traveling with young children, multigenerational travel, or friends-like-family groups.

The Donahue Family

Our family has called Fort Wayne home for most of our lives. We enjoy parks, local dining options, and the revitalized downtown. We recently moved downtown to be closer to many of our favorite spots and activities.

The Donahues’ Recommendations:

The Fort Wayne Zoo, especially their many accessible features and rides like the Z.O.&O. Railroad and the Endangered Species Carousel.

From Foster Park to Promenade Park, we love how many of the parks are connected by trails to make it easy to get from place to place by biking, running, or walking, and they are very wheelchair accessible.

We also love the many places to enjoy live music. From The Landing, Lunch on the Square, and Embassy Theatre to restaurants like Hop River Brewing Company and the Club Room at the Clyde, Fort Wayne has a lot of talent and places to enjoy good eats and beats.

We love sporting events like TinCaps Baseball, Komet Hockey, and Fort Wayne FC Soccer games!

With their interactive displays, great photo ops, live music events, and beautiful scenery, we love to explore the Botanical Conservatory.

Jasmine Jennings

I am a Fort Wayne native who has gained over 2 million followers by spreading joy and positivity through dance and energetic content. When I’m not creating content, you’ll find me working at the Boys & Girls Club, teaching dance, and staying active in my community.

Jasmine’s Recommendations:

Saisaki is one of my favorite restaurants downtown. It sits across the street from the Museum of Art and Arts United Center and has great food and service – the perfect date night spot. Be sure to tell them Jasmine sent you!

The Embassy Theatre is one of my favorite places to be, especially during the Holiday season. One of my favorite traditions is going to the Festival of Trees with my family and watching the Christmas performances.

Looking for a place to hang out with friends?

One of my favorite spots is Promenade Park! Come here to sit and relax or get up and moving. When the weather is nice, my friends and I love to dance by the river and record TikToks with the scenic park views in the background.

Jefferson Pointe is my favorite place to shop! Not only are there plenty of places to shop, but it’s also a great place to eat or grab a snack. My mom and I love visiting DeBrand for their famous ice cream sundaes.

Gyms can be intimidating, which has made it hard for me to be consistent. When I joined TruFit Gym, I immediately felt right at home. I love being able to workout in such a fun and positive environment. Plus, the first class is always free and drop-ins are welcome!

As travel content creators living in Chicago, my husband and I love to make the short drive to Fort Wayne for a weekend getaway! Of all the places we have traveled to, we feel there is something special about Fort Wayne with its walkable downtown, gorgeous river, friendly community, and its unique way of balancing historical charm with modern amenities!

Chevy & Kam Stanton

At Black People Outside, we understand the need for representation and comfort when trying new experiences. As city dwellers ourselves, we realized the lack of diversity in outdoor spaces and made it our mission to change that. Through engaging short-form videos on social media and arranging free group hikes in Chicago, we aim to make the great outdoors just as appealing as the city and break down barriers for urban communities to explore and discover nature.

The Stantons’ Recommendations:

LC Nature Park - Home to bison, elk, and a variety of bird species. You can even take personal tours of the park.

Fort Wayne Outfitters - Looking for the best way to get around Fort Wayne? Then make sure you rent a bike or kayak from Fort Wayne Outfitters.

Papi’s Pizza - Brick oven chicken wings!!! Oh, and they also have some amazing pizza, too! Deema Turkish Cuisine - Some of the best Turkish food I have had to date. The flavors, the display, the smells. We can’t wait to return.

The Hive Coffee House - Perfect small coffee shop with amazing lattes and even better WiFi for the worker on the go.

What’s for… in Fort Wayne Breakfast, & Dinner Lunch,

Whether you plan your day around your meals, or wait until you’re hangry to decide where to eat, here’s a lineup of some of the best places to dine during your visit.

Breakfast

Cindy’s Diner is a historic favorite that feeds the world 15 at a time. Take a seat at the counter for the classic garbage plate or authentic Murphy’s donuts. Head to Fortezza for a quick break to pick up a latte or pastry (their chai lattes are out of this world!). And, if you’re in town on a Sunday, snag a special treat from their extended pastry menu. Proximo is a local favorite for sweet and savory breakfast options like carnitas benedict or french toast with a side of candied bacon.

Lunch

Fort Wayne’s Famous Coney Island is one of the oldest coney stands in America, serving coney dogs and Coca-Colas in a glass bottle since 1914. Hoppy Gnome is a great spot for families with kids, offering creative tacos and tortas, and its Little Gnomies menu offers “fish taco” snacks of tortillas, filled with fish crackers. Grab a quick and tasty meal for lunch or dinner from Giordano’s, known for their deep-dish pizza. Visitors also love the Don Hall’s family of restaurants including The Deck (summer only), Hall’s Hollywood Drive-In, and Tavern at Coventry

Dinner

Head to Union Street Market at Electric Works

to find something different for everyone at one of the many merchants. After your meal, explore this revitalized campus set on the impressive, historic General Electric plant.
