Welcome to Herning – and welcome to an amazing 2018 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. It is going to be awesome! In Herning we have been preparing for a long time. It is our main concern, that you, our guest, have a great experience – and we will do our best to create some Danish “hygge” together with you! Herning is by far the smallest city ever to host the Ice Hockey World Championship. This means, that the whole city will be ready to party along with ice hockey fans. Restaurants, bars and shops have been preparing for this event for a long time – both in the centre of Herning – and in the big shopping mall, herningCentret. We hope you have a great time in Herning! * Hygge: Hygge is a tricky word to define, it’s a feeling, an experience, a sensation. It means creating a warm atmosphere. ACTION IN HERNING Herning is actionpacked! You can visit the city’s INDOOR GO-KARTING TRACK, Mørupvej 27E. Or perhaps, you dare to take the plunge? You can try a parachute tandem jump from the airport in Herning together with DROPZONE DENMARK, Skinderholmvej 31. In HERNING GOLF CLUB, Golfvej 24 you can enjoy a game of golf on Denmark’s perhaps most beautiful park course. Furthermore, you have several options to try out FOOTBALLGOLF, Linåvej 37, 7451 Sunds or Kjelnstrupvej 5, 7550 Sørvad.
WATER ACTIVITIES HERNING SVØMMEHAL offers two great indoor swimming pools, Brændgårdvej 20 and DGI HUSET’S SWIM CENTER, Kousgaards Plads 3 allows you to relax and have fun in good and attractive swimming facilities. If you are into action on water, there is the opportunity to ski or wakeboard, at HERNING WATERSKIING & WAKEBOARD CLUB in the lake Knudmosesøen, east of Herning, Haugevej 1. Here you can be towed by a boat or try the cable drive. On both lanes there are rails, boxes and kickers.

• MØRUPVEJ 1, 5 Kulturfabrikken brings together all the urban sports. It’s the place to be if you want a day with lots of action. I den østlige del af Herning kan du blandt andet opleve mægtige ELIA, som er Hernings vartegn og Nordeuropas største skulptur (entré: gratis). I Birk finder du også de GEOMETRISKE HAVER og SKULPTURPARKEN (entré: gratis) og UTZON-HUSET. Du finder også to museer, der byder på kunst i verdensklasse. På HEART, museet for moderne kunst, (entré: 75 kr.) finder du udstillinger med bl.a. Jens Søndergaard og Asger Jorn under VM. In the eastern part of Herning you can experience the mighty ELIA, the landmark of Herning and the largest sculpture in northern Europe (entry: free). In Birk you will also find the GEOMETRIC PARK, the SCULPTURE GARDEN (entry: free) and the UTZON HOUSE. You will also find two world class art museums. HEART is Hernings’ museum of contemporary art, (entry: 75 DKK). During the Ice Hockey World Championship, the museum exhibits paintings by Jens Søndergaard and Asger Jorn. At CARL HENNING PEDERSEN AND ELSE ALFELTS MUSEUM you can experience a special exhibition. Paintings are exhibitet along with sculptures made by deceased Prince Henrik of Denmark (entry: 100 DKK. If you have a ticket for a 2018 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship game, entry is free from the 4th to the 13th of May.) • FUGLSANG SØ Fuglsang Sø er 800 meter lang, 450 meter bred og 6 meter på det dybeste sted. Området er et ideelt sted for lange gåture tæt på Herning.

• LØVBAKKEVEJ 32 I den 53ha store dyrehave tæt på Herning lever 50 dådyr. Inde i dyrehaven er der en meget smuk og varieret natur, med et godt stisystem til gå- eller løbeture.

• LØVBAKKEVEJ 32 In the 53 hectares large park close to Herning live 50 fallow deer. The nature of the area is very beautiful, with marked trails and paths, which makes it possible to go for a walk or run around the entire park.

FAN ZONE FESTEN BEGYNDER I FAN ZONEN Om du er ishockey fan eller ej, er Fan Zonen et sted, du skal opleve. Her finder du et sandt mekka af mad og drikke, et væld af aktiviteter for store og små, masser af musik og underholdning, samt hyggelige afslapningsområder. Der er gratis adgang alle dage – også selvom du ikke har en billet til kampene. Fan Zonen er placeret foran JYSKE BANK BOXEN, Kaj Zartows Vej 7. ÅBNINGSTIDER Fan Zonen åbner to timer før dagens første kamp (kl. 10.15 eller 14.15 afhængigt af første kamps starttidspunkt) og lukker ved midnatstid. Den 16. maj holder Fan Zonen lukket hele dagen.
THE PARTY BEGINS IN THE FAN ZONE Whether you are an avid ice hockey fan or not, the Fan Zone is the place to visit. The Fan Zone offers a true paradise of food and drinks, an abundance of activities for young and old alike, lots of music and entertainment, and cosy areas to hang out. Access to the Fan Zone is free – even if you don’t have a ticket to one of the games. The Fan Zone is located just in front of the main entrance of the venue, JYSKE BANK BOXEN, Kaj Zartows Vej 7. OPENING HOURS The Fan Zone opens two hours prior to the first game of the day (it can be either at 10.15 or 14.15, depending on the time the first game is played) and it closes around midnight On 16th of May the Fan Zone is closed all day.

HERNING - HER ER ALLE MULIGHEDER ÅBNE Herning er en ung by. I 1870 var der 246 indbyggere i byen, men da industrialiseringen kom i slutningen af 1800-tallet tog byen fart. Herning blev Danmarks tekstilcentrum, og byens historie hænger tæt sammen med Danmarks tekstilhistorie. Området huser stadig mange tekstilvirksomheder. Herning er også ishockey. Herning Blue Fox er det mest vindende danske ishockeyhold nogensinde, og moderklubben er en talentfabrik ud over det sædvanlige. Trods kun 50.000 indbyggere, så har Herning fostret fem spillere til NHL – tre af dem spiller for øjeblikket. Nogen siger, at det gør byen til den by i verden med flest NHL-spillere i forhold til indbyggertallet. Det seneste årti har Herning også manifesteret sig som oplevelses- og eventby i verdensklasse. Byen huser hvert år mange store koncerter og har været vært for blandt andet VM og EM i håndhold, VM i brydning, EM i svømning, landevejscykling, hestesport, fodbold – og meget, meget mere.
HERNING – WHERE EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE Herning is a young city. In 1870 there were just 246 inhabitants in the city. When the industrialisation came in the late 19th century, the city took off. Herning became Denmark’s textile centre, and the city’s history is closely connected to Denmark’s textile history. Many textile companies still have their headquarters located in Herning. Herning is also ice hockey. Herning Blue Fox is the most winning ice hockey team ever in Denmark, and the club has fostered numerous talents. Despite only having 50,000 inhabitants, Herning has fostered five NHL-players. This makes Herning the city with the most NHL players in the world, compared to the number of inhabitants. During the last decade, Herning has also manifested itself as a world-class experience and event-city. The city has hosted many major concerts and a great number of big sport events, such as the World and European Championship in handball, the World Championship in wrestling, the European Championship in swimming, cycling, equestrian sports, football - and much more.

Quench your thirst in one of Herning’s cosy pubs and bars that line the streets of Fonnesbechsgade, Ă˜stergade, Bredgade and Vestergade, stretching for 1.4 km in the city centre, which is what we call Hygge Hockey Herning area during the Ice Hockey World Championship. FREE SHUTTLE BUSES During the Ice Hockey World Championship there are free shuttle buses between the venue, Jyske Bank Boxen, Herning Station and herningCentret. PARKING Parking is free most places in Herning, but there is a time limit in some parking spaces. Therefore, if you want to avoid a ticket, pay attention to the signs when you park. Be aware, that in these areas, you need to use a parking disc. Set the pointer to indicate the time of arrival. Use google maps to find the closes parking lot. At herningCentret there are 1,305 free parking spaces, and at the venue, Jyske Bank Boxen, you will find 10,000 free parking spaces.
