We definitely celebrate the sea with its wide array of freshly landed world class fish. Make sure to check the specials board for the catch of the day! Ventnor, Bembridge and Yarmouth harbours deliver local lobster all year round with crab, sea bass, mackerel and bream proving particular favourites. Taste Round the Island Cycle Route The weight-neutral food extravagance! Do you love the idea of sampling the best food and drink the Isle of Wight has to offer but want to go home fitter than you started? Then the Taste Round the Island Cycle Route is for you. This 66 mile, gently rolling countryside cycle tour follows our quietest country lanes, through stunning scenery and historical villages. Along the route you can stay in quality “cyclist welcome” accredited accommodation and stop at a series of “taste locations”. These taste experiences allow you to sample irresistible local food and drink at reduced rates if you arrive on bikes. Give yourself three to four days to do the whole route in comfortable meandering cycle mode. Or take just a nibble, by picking a shorter section to ride over a few hours.

FOOD HYGIENE RATING SCHEME In Spring 2011 the Isle of Wight Council’s Environmental Health team switched to a new way of publishing the hygiene standards of food businesses. Building on the success of the Council’s own 0-5 star scheme which has operated successfully since 2007, The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) is the national scheme. The scheme is run by local authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland in partnership with the Food Standards Agency and it provides at-a-glance information to consumers on the food hygiene standards found by environmental health officers at planned inspections in the Island’s 2000 food businesses. Food businesses are rated on a scale from 0 at the bottom (meaning ‘urgent improvement necessary‘) to 5 at the top (meaning ‘very good’). The rating reflects hygiene practices, management controls and cleanliness/structural conditions. The scheme recognises food businesses with high standards of food hygiene, whilst providing an incentive for others to improve by allowing consumers to make informed choices about where they eat or buy food from.
