Discover more about Ryde’s heritage Ryde’s District Heritage Centre can be found in the beautiful Royal Victoria Arcade in Union Street. The Centre houses a great collection of historic objects and memorabilia tracing Ryde’s story as a popular seaside destination.

Shanklin’s stunning Chine (steep valley) starts at the Old Village and winds its way down towards the beach. With its steep sides, Shanklin Chine is a magical place for rare plants, wildlife and enchanting waterfalls.
The train now boarding... Visit the Isle of Wight Steam Railway which is based at Havenstreet and runs for 5 miles from Wootton to Smallbrook Junction. This fabulous ‘living, breathing, working museum’ exudes nostalgia from every platform.
The Heritage Centre is just 5 minutes walk along Union Street from Ryde train station.

Ticket to Ride! A visit to the Isle of Wight is not complete without a trip on our railway Island Line. Running some 8.5 miles from Ryde Pier Head to Shanklin along the eastern side of the Island. The trains are former London Underground Tube stock and it is a fun way to get out and about. The line also connects to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway at Smallbrook Junction. With lots of great stop off points on the way it is a day out not to be missed. With stations at Ryde right next to the bus terminal it is easy to access from across the Island.

Lake Beach is located bewteen the popular and busy beaches of Sandown and Shanklin. Enjoy golden sands and surf in a quieter location. A scenic cliff path runs along the coastline.
Brading Roman Villa is 1 mile from the train station. It can be easily walked or a No.2 or 3 bus will take you nearby.

Everyone loves a Model Railway
For the perfect British seaside holiday you can’t beat a stroll along the pier. Sandown Pier is a delight, packed with all the experiences you might expect including candy floss, arcades and fizzy drinks.
Visit the indoor model railway and shop at Fort Victoria, just outside Yarmouth. Rekindle childhood memories watching the model trains weave their way through villages, mountains and tunnels.
Sandown Pier and beach is a 10 minute walk from Sandown station.
The No.7 bus leaves Newport every 30 minutes, then take the FYT community bus all the way to Fort Victoria.
