Don’t just take our word for it. Read what others have to say about the venues and services in Knoxville.
“From initial meetings of the Local Arrangements Committee to promotional materials to volunteers, Visit Knoxville actively participated in SEMC 2014 Annual Conference. Attendees loved Knoxville because the historic sites and cultural institutions were within walking distance. Visit Knoxville was a true partner in planning and promoting this successful conference.” Susan Perry - Southeast Museums Conference “Knoxville was such a friendly city all-around and the downtown area was so accessible from our hotel and the convention center. It was great to be able to walk to dinner or off-site activities when needed. Overall, a great success!” Jessica Seitz - Outdoor Writers Association of America “Visit Knoxville is top of the line and I only wished I had the response and work from future host cities that they gave to our Association on behalf of your City. We believed that enough that your City was submitted by Southern Chapter ISA to host our International organization in Knoxville in August 2019.” Dwayne Carter - Southern Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture “The group of people at the Convention and Visitors’ Bureau are simply the best! They get back to you right away, connect you with the people who can help in any situation, and are flexible. What more can you ask for? We love the wonderful mix of ‘old’ and ‘new’ in Knoxville. It is an energetic and modern city with the University population right there and yet there is a strong sense of history and local pride.” Meg Collins - TN Health Care Association “Knoxville has a wonderful hotel and convention center package. I have worked with the team at Visit Knoxville, the Knoxville Convention Center and all the great hotel partners. They were symbiotic in executing the trade association’s meeting that I brought to Knoxville. The city is compact with great restaurants and entertainment just a short walk from most of the hotels in downtown area. The feedback from the attendees was very positive. I would recommend the team in Knoxville to make your event an unforgettable experience.” Peter Wann - ConferenceDirect “I think that the success of the 2013 annual meeting of the American Association of Physical Anthropologists was in large part due to the very attractive venue and hospitable staff provided by the Knoxville Convention Center. The large, airy and bright concourses were frequently mentioned by our attendees as a highlight of their meeting’s experience. The welcoming reception on the outdoor patio featuring a delicious buffet of local food and beers was another frequently mentioned high point of the week.” Andrew Kramer – University of Tennessee Dept. of Anthropology 12

What to Do
With a sophisticated mix of culture and cuisine, served up with genuine hospitality, Knoxville is the big town that treats everyone like a local. Just look at all we have to offer… Knoxville is one of America’s most vibrant cities for live music. It’s on the streets, the square and stages of famous venues like the historic Tennessee Theatre. Blue Plate Special concerts are also free to the public every Monday-Saturday at the WDVX studios located inside the Downtown Knoxville Visitors Center. The city boasts a vibrant and very walkable downtown with a variety of unique entertainment, shopping and more than 80 local, diverse dining options. Just three miles from downtown lies Knoxville’s Urban Wilderness. This 1,000-acre stretch features more than 50 miles of hiking and biking trails for all levels of adventure. Historic Gay Street

East Tennessee History Center
Many visitors come to Knoxville to learn more about Civil War sites in our area, and tour earthworks, battle sites and historic homes. While here, many stop by the East Tennessee History Center to learn about their own history available through the center’s premier genealogical research library. Other popular Knoxville attractions include Zoo Knoxville, the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame and the Knoxville Museum of Art. Knoxville Museum of Art

Knoxville’s unique culinary scene is on the rise thanks to a group of talented chefs. No matter what you’re craving – or hoping to try – Knoxville is serving it up daily in a variety of restaurants that will both surprise and satisfy. Many restaurants are within walking distance of some of Knoxville’s finest hotels. And there’s something else brewing in Knoxville. The city is building a name for itself as one of the best craft beer towns in the Southeast. We offer visitors the opportunity to relax with some of the country’s finest beers and finest people. Whether you prefer German and other traditional beers or quirky infused beers, it’s all on tap in Knoxville. We’re also home to two stops on the Tennessee Whiskey Trail. Asen Photography

Market Segments
The Visit Knoxville Convention Sales and Services Team is ready to assist you in planning your next conference, meeting or reunion. We work with planners from a variety of industries and organizations. Below you’ll find information on some of the markets in which we excel.
Agricultural Knoxville is “growing” in large part due to the research and work of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture. “The Institute is truly at the core of the University of Tennessee land-grant mission of educating, discovering and connecting,” says Dr. Larry Arrington, Chancellor of Agriculture. The Institute’s four major units are the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, the College of Veterinary Medicine, UT AgResearch and UT Extension. Clientele include students, families, farmers, 4-H groups, agribusiness and the general public. Faculty here continues to impact the world around us with their knowledge and research.
Education The influence of Knoxville-based research and technology can be found throughout the world. The city is home of The University of Tennessee, the state’s flagship university now on track to join the nation’s Top 25 public research institutions. The University assists in managing the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory - just minutes away. The University of Tennessee Medical Center is the region’s only academic medical center, Magnet® recognized hospital and Level I Trauma Center. And The University’s Anthropology Research Facility has received international recognition for its forensic techniques. For these reasons and countless others (including a safe, walkable downtown that both kids and parents enjoy) Knoxville serves as the ideal host city for education-based conferences, events and competitions.
Medical Knoxville is very engaged in the healthcare community. The city is the home of the University of Tennessee Medical Center, the region’s only academic medical center, Magnet® recognized hospital and Level I Trauma Center as well as a number of internationally known healthcare facilities, including The Provision Center for Proton Therapy, the first facility of its kind in Tennessee, offering one of the most advanced cancer treatments in the world. With state-of-the-art meeting facilities and outstanding hotels, all within walking distance of dining and nightlife, Knoxville is a model destination for medical meetings and conventions. 54
MEETING PLANNER GUIDE I visitknoxville.com
Military Knoxville takes great pride in the continuous support it offers our military and veterans – and it shows. In recent years, Knoxville has been named Most Patriotic City in America. The city received national attention when it was chosen to host the 2014 Medal of Honor Convention. Since that time, a number of Medal of Honor recipients have returned to Knoxville, citing the overwhelming hospitality they experienced. Knoxville is home to the East Tennessee Veterans Memorial, Honor Air and one of the largest Veterans Day parades in the nation. Unit Commanders from Knoxville’s 14 local Guard and Reserve Units tell us they wish other cities showed the same amount of support Knoxville does.
Religious Knoxville is home to a diverse community of cultures, organizations and religious denominations. No matter what size event you’re planning, we can accommodate you with a variety of hotels and meeting facilities, many within walking distance of our vibrant and walkable downtown. The Knoxville Convention Center, Knoxville Civic Coliseum and Auditorium, and ThompsonBoling Arena play host to religious conferences and events each year, including the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society, Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ, and Church of God International.
Science and Engineering Knoxville’s ability to host scientific and engineering related events is due in large part to Visit Knoxville’s outstanding relationship with nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory. ORNL was established in 1943 as part of the Manhattan Project and operates today with 4,500 staff including scientists and engineers from around the world in more than 100 disciplines. Visit Knoxville is also pleased to partner with the Knoxville Chamber on Innovation Valley, a regional economic development initiative centered on a corridor linking the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Knoxville’s McGhee Tyson Airport. We also maintain a strong relationship with the University of Tennessee’s College of Engineering.
