Experience the Lapland-like marsh landscape in Valkmusa National Park
You don’t have to go all the way to Lapland for these landscapes. In Valkmusa, you are hiking in an exceptional, Lapland-like swamp landscape different to the conditions in Southern Finland. The largest and most diverse swamp area of Southern Coastal Finland with its rare birds and butterflies is spread across Pyhtää area, and you can experience all this wonder on the 2.3 km log trail and the 4 km Moronvuori run. In winter, the flat terrain and open landscape attract skiing and snowshoeing. If you’re lucky, you might spot a crane or an osprey!
Hike in the footsteps of history on the legendary Salpa Line
In the forests of Virolahti and Miehikkälä, follow the historic Salpa Line on well-marked hiking trails. Along the way, you can rest and refuel in shelters, take a dip in the region’s numerous lakes or the Vaalimaa River, marvel at the armoured stone barriers, and visit the Virolahti Bunker Museum and the Miehikkälä Salpa Line Museum to get to know the history of the region. There are a total of 50 km of Salpa Line hiking trails and 72 km of cycling trails. In addition, experience the very popular Wilderness and Unknown Soldier trails.
