From Kapital to Capital is a retrospective offering a complete cross section of work by Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK), a Slovenian art collective that left an indelible mark on the Yugoslav art scene of the 1980s, when Slovenia was still part of the former Yugoslavia. Even by world standards, the collective's oeuvre is considered to be one of the most provocative ones in recent art. NSK's 'retroavant-garde' approach subverted ideological symbolism, national myths, and ideas about originality and authenticity. The collective pursued coordinated activities across different fields of art. Much of the credit for its prominent place in art history goes to the visual arts group Irwin and the cult alternative music band Laibach. Open 10:00 - 18:00. Closed: Mondays, holidays

María’s work blends graphic art, performance events, installation and sound into a precisely devised and harmonic whole. The Tree Talk Series draws inspiration from a fallen birch tree whose bark she has flattened, and used to make drawings and etchings. She scanned, that is, converted digitally, its furrowed markings and had them cut into a player-piano roll with a laser. While
This exhibition explores the development of the poster as a mass medium in the 20th century Slovenia. It presents the best known Slovenian poster designers, who initially came from the ranks of fine artists and architects, the advertising agencies they worked for, and the historical circumstances that shaped the development of poster design in Slovenia. Also presented are some of the special phenomena in Slovenian poster design, including the Slovenian National Liberation Front poster, which appeared during the Second World War, and the poster of the early post-war period of social realism. The years to follow saw a gradual development of modern, increasingly perfected and recognizably Slovenian poster design, whose exponents included Edvard Ravnikar and other members of the young post-war generation of Slovenian architects. played, the patterns morph into a startling score, birch music that reminds us of the inner logic inherent in all natural patterns. Apart from drawings, graphic prints and etchings, Maria Elena Gonzales’s showcase will also feature the pianoplayer roll. Made exclusively for the Ljubljana exhibition, the new score will receive its world premiere at two concerts accompanying the show’s opening and closing ceremonies. The uniquely fluid and time-conditioned sonic “sculpture” forms part of the Forest exhibition. The International Biennial of Graphic Arts celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. The thematic point of departure for the main exhibition of this year's Biennial, set to be held at Ljubljana's International Centre of Graphic Arts, is 'Over you / you', a quick note borrowed from the corner of a drawing by the German contemporary artist Martin Kippenberger which led to all kinds of considerations that have come to underlie the conceptual framework of this year's edition of the Biennial. The main exhibition, whose curator is Nicola Lees, brings together both traditional and contemporary forms of graphic production, emphasizing their common political and aesthetic foundations. The Biennial's main exhibition will be accompanied by exhibitions of work by the winners of the previous, 30th edition of the Biennial and a number of other exhibitions and artistic events held at various

Through four main themes and various timelines, the exhibition presents the importance of water. The exhibition is discussing water cycles in nature, their meaning and ecology. The first three themes build their stories through museum artefacts among which a larger wooden boat, presented to the public for the very first time, deserves a special mention. Other artefacts also include a rich glass collection, famous artworks by Slovenian artists and a selection of the most important artefacts from the collection of the Potočnik family, originating from the riverbed of the Ljubljanica. The fourth theme is presented with an interactive experimental element, primary intended for children’s experiential workshops. The cult band OFF!, active since 2009, are credited with being the band that managed to revive the legacy of '80s hardcore music in all its harshness and bring it to 21st century audiences. The band was founded by Keith Morris, well-known as a veteran of the Californian punk scene, a founding member of the band Black Flag, and later the frontman of the band Circle Jerks, in collaboration with the renowned alternative rock musician Dimitri Coats. OFF! have so far released two studio albums and a number of singles and EPs, whose cover art was created by the renowned contemporary artist Raymond Pettibon, who once designed the covers for Black Flag albums.

The musician and poet Patti Smith left an indelible mark on the face of '70 rock music and continues to be an influential artist today. At her upcoming Ljubljana concert, she will perform, in full, her seminal album Horses, released in 1975. Once the hippie optimism of the 1960s was gone, America found itself in a whirlwind of political and cultural change. One of the artists whose music signalled the development of rock music in the directions of punk and new wave was Patti Smith, whose 1975 debut Horses acted as a kind of catalyst for what began to happen in music in the following years. Patti Smith had a tremendous influence on the musical developments in New York and worldwide. She has inspired music artists as different as Ramones, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Sonic Youth, PJ Harvey, R.E.M., Courtney Love, Pretenders, Television, and Cat Power. The famous instrumental pop duo 2Cellos consists of two young cello virtuosos from Slovenia and Croatia respectively. Before they embarked on a successful pop music career, Luka Šulić and Stjepan Hauser had made a name for themselves in classical music circles. 2Cellos rose to fame with their cover version of Michael Jackson's hit song Smooth Criminal, whose video has received over 11 million views on YouTube. The song's success was followed by the release of the duo's highly acclaimed cover of the Guns n' Roses song Welcome to the Jungle and a series of successful concerts across the USA and elsewhere in the world. The concert is as part of the Ljubljana Festival 2015 programme of events.
