G R T I N S E R KONGERTAINMENT ZONE FAN ENT

September will see the centrally located Kongresni trg square turned into a popular spot for basketball fans. Throughout the championship, from 4 to 22 September, Kongresni trg will be hosting a vibrant fan entertainment zone, where those without tickets will be able to follow the championship action on a large screen. A stage set up in the square will host an extensive programme of music and entertainment and a lot of activity will also take place off-stage: a pleasant atmosphere will be created by the Kazina all-girl dance troupe; visitors will be entertained by performances from the Gledališče Ane Monro street theatre, the Pustotnik accordion ensemble, and many others; every now and then, a spectacular laser light projection will be beamed onto the façade of the Slovenian Philharmonic building. Kongresni trg will also host ‘live basketball’; the ball will be slam-dunked by the members of the acrobatic basketball team Dunking Devils. The programme of events will be particularly extensive on non-match days. It will include offerings from the embassies of the countries taking part in the championship. From morning until late at night, a wide choice of drinks and snacks will be available from seven catering kiosks. The square’s vibrant atmosphere will spill over into the neighbouring Zvezda Park, decorated to the theme of basketball by Ljubljana’s primary school pupils. From this perfect place for sitting around in the shade of trees, it will spread throughout the city so that not only basketball fans, but also other visitors and locals will be kept in a mood of excited expectation.

Kongresni trg tourist information point

Daily from 13:00 to 20:00, the Kongresni trg square will be the site of a tourist information point and ticket outlet set up in front of an open-topped double-decker, where basketball fans and other visitors to the fan entertainment zone will be able to obtain information related to Ljubljana and the EuroBasket championship, as weel as purchase tickets to city tours, boat rides along the Ljubljanica river, open-top doubledecker sightseeing tours and more. 16 www.visitljubljana.com

BREGOR GOOD FOOD LOVERS A PLACE F

EuroBasket 2013 culinary route Not far away from the Kongresni trg square, right next to the river Ljubljanica, is the Breg embankment, a riverside promenade turned into a culinary route specially for those visiting Ljubljana during EuroBasket 2013. Daily from 14 September, its food and drink stalls will be offering traditional Slovenian food, products with protected designation of origin, and Slovenian wines for tasting and purchase. Accompanying events will include dance shows, street theatre performances, a Saturday art market, a Sunday antique flea market, and occasional art interventions. Offerings will include those provided by the embassies of the countries taking part in the championship. Beyond doubt, Breg will be a perfect place to go when you feel like taking a break from the championship. House of Sports on the Breg promenade Before the beginning of EuroBasket 2013, a sports information centre called the House of Sports opened its doors at no. 2 Breg. The centre, covering everything sports-related in Ljubljana, offers promotional materials, tickets to one-off sporting events, annual tickets to events organized by Ljubljana’s sports clubs, a sports and recreation area reservation system, and a calendar of upcoming sporting events. It brings together everyone involved in sports in Ljubljana on whatever level, from athletes and recreation enthusiasts to sponsors, sports fans, and tourists.
