Roman Stories from the Crossroads National Museum of Slovenia's permanent exhibition The National Museum of Slovenia's new permanent exhibition brings together archaeological finds from the time when the territory of the present-day Slovenia was part of the Roman Empire. The exhibition was set up to mark the 2000th anniversary of Emona, a city that stood on the site of the present-day Ljubljana in Roman times. Over a thousand objects on exhibition include an imperial construction inscription dated to 14 or 15 AD, which provides evidence on the time of the foundation of Emona. Another important exhibit is a gilded bronze statue of a citizen of Emona, displayed complete with the reconstruction of its original position in the time of Emperor Trajan. The statue was part of a sepulchral monument obviously modelled on Trajan's Column in Rome. Open 10:00 - 18:00, Thursdays 10:00 20:00.
The Mummy and the Crocodile: The Slovenians Exploring the Lands along the Nile 21 Mar - 31 Dec, National Museum of Slovenia - Metelkova After nearly a century, the National Museum of Slovenia is putting on display the Egyptian Collection of its predecessor, the Provincial Museum of Carniola. The exhibition reveals the stories of three Slovenian Egyptologists who brought the objects in the collection over to Slovenia. It is not widely known today that a number of successful explorers of Africa were Slovenian, despite the fact that the achievements of the Slovenian Egyptologists Anton Lavrin, Ignacij Knoblehar, and Josef Švegel (Josef Schwegel in German) were on a par with those of their contemporaries exploring the ancient Egyptian civilization. Apart from the objects that the three Egyptologists donated to the Provincial Museum of Carniola, it was also the stories of their experiences in exotic lands that stirred the imagination of the Slovenian public of their time. The centrepiece of the exhibition is the mummy of Isahta (A-Keswy-Ta), a priest of Amon, which aroused great public interest at the time it was brought over to Ljubljana along with a stuffed crocodile. The mummy kept at the National Museum is the only human mummy to be held in Slovenia. Open 10:00 - 18:00. Closed: Mondays Free entrance every first Sunday of the month

Aquae Iasae - archaeological exhibition 21 May - 26 Oct, Cankarjev dom cultural and congress centre cultural and congress centre Aquae Iasae is the first exhibition to bring together the extraordinary archaeological finds discovered during the latest excavations in the area of the Croatian town of Varaždinske Toplice, carried out by the Zagreb Archaeological Museum. In the autumn, the exhibition will also be on display in Zagreb, Croatia. From the 1st to the 4th century AD, the area around the town of Varaždinske Toplice in north-western Croatia was the site of a thermal spring and a Roman settlement called Aquae Iasae. Systematic research conducted in the area since 1953 by the Antiquity Department of the Zagreb Archaeological Museum yielded the discovery of a complex of public buildings consisting of a bathing area with various building facilities, pools, and a basilica, and an open area with a temple surrounding the thermal spring. The latest archaeological research, conducted between 2011 and 2012, yielded the discovery of highly interesting Roman architectural solutions and numerous stone monuments, reliefs, inscriptions, and sculptures testifying to the extraordinary importance of Aquae Iasae as a Roman thermal spa centre. Open 10:00 - 19:00, Sundays 10:00 - 14:00 We never imagined such a war exhibition marking the centenary of the First World War 22 Jun 2014 - 15 May 2015, National Museum of Contemporary History Marking the centenary of the First World War, this exhibition focuses on human stories of civilians and those
mobilized to fight on the side of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy during the war. The majority of exhibits are part of the surviving heritage coming from family legacies and various museum collections. Exhibited photographs and personal use items take visitors on a journey across the battlefields where Austro-Hungarian soldiers fought during the war. The exhibition presents some of the crucial events in the history of the First World War. It deals with the cause of the war, the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the AustroHungarian throne, who is depicted in a large number of exhibited photographs, including several lesser known ones. It also presents other historic events, from the declaration of war and the opening of the Isonzo Front to the death of Franz Joseph I of Austria and the attempt at the life of the prime minister, a dark premonition of the inevitable disintegration of Austria-Hungary. Open 10:00 - 18:00. Closed: Mondays, holidays

Liars are one of the most acclaimed alternative music groups of our time. Their sound basically combines punk rock elements with electronic music. Their seventh album, Mess, released earlier this year, was received with enthusiastic critical acclaim. Liars have a reputation for exploring different musical elements and themes on every new album they release. After their foundation in 2000, they were first categorized as one of the most interesting bands performing the then newly revived post punk. Later their music was labelled as 'dance punk', and since 2006, which saw the release of their ground-breaking album Drum's Not Dead, Liars have enjoyed a reputation as being simply unpredictable and distinctive.

Back in 1989, when Helmet started their musical career, they crossed boundaries between styles and, thanks to their unique sound, changed the face of the rock music of the time. They were referred to as a 'thinking person's heavy metal band', but in time their sound had a decisive influence on several different styles of rock music and renowned bands such as Tool, Rise Against, Pantera and Deftones, among others.

The world renowned Spanish vocalist Concha Buika combines the African heat with the Spanish soul in her own distinctive style. The singer, whom her numerous fans refer to simply as Buika, is considered to be one of the best world music, flamenco, and Latin jazz vocalists, combining different musical genres, emotionally charged lyrics, and her signature raspy voice into a coherent whole. Buika has received several Grammy nominations and a Latin Grammy Award as well as a number of other accolades. The American NPR radio network has named her one of the world's '50 Great Voices' and referred to her as 'The Voice of Freedom'.
